    TEEN CHALLENGE 62

    The Rules:
Anyone ages 13-19 may submit an entry at any time before the deadline. Please host your image on a remote image-hosting site instead of uploading it to the CA server. This makes it much easier to transfer it to the poll thread.

The Topic: Asgaard is the home the home of the Norse gods. Now its your job to design a guardian for it, you can include more then one in your final image but only 1 is mandatory. The topic is pretty open, so use that to your advantage.

    IMPORTANT
    1. Add a border around your image with your name and the topic, like they do with the other of the week challenges.
    2. Please do not use attachment manager, but outside host your image.
    3. Mark your final as final

    The Deadline:
    Tuesday April 14th, 2 weeks.

    linework.. off to bed..

Thinking of some kind of half-breed of giants who are in alliance with the asgaards. Only the strongest of them are allowed to stand guard, and helping them are the spawn of the Fenris wolf.

    Lord M - Tack!

Skunk257 - Thanks! I'm using some custom brushes here, mainly two textured ones I found in a pack, a watercolour for the "flowlike" strokes and basic round brush with different hardnesses. Also use some smudgetool.

DefiledVisions - Really like it... though a little confused over choice (giants and spawn of Fenris rather against the people of Asgard... but hey.. its a concept ) but yeah.. you appear to be pulling it off... so go for it!

as for me... have decided to pimp the whole Valkyrie thing.. seeing as they are the things you first meet when you appear near Asgard... i guess they'd be a pretty good place to start Guarding it! so far all i have is scribbles seeing as i entered a beasty for the COW!

    Good idea for a TC!

Might enter this week, I'm finally on my easter holiday, so I got the time.

Haven't got Photoshop and stuff though, just scanner.

    :s

Is colour needed? I prefer black and white.

maybe thin the haloing... make a new background... make more Valkyries than just one! Cure all the worlds diseases and find a way to make blonde hair more blonde!

    Guardians of Asgaard (WIP)

I like this topic quite a bit. Though I don't know much about Norse mythology, I'm sure there's many different ways to go about this topic. Here's my WIP, and I'm glad it's a 2-week TC. Not sure how to finish this one out. I suppose I'll add another character and probably do something with the background (lodge, mountains, village, etc.).

    Ideas, critiques?

    Asgaard WIP - 2

So I did some research on Norse mythology to see if I could find another character to add to my somewhat generic knight. I found one that seems to be a sort of guardian already. I added Eikþyrnir, a stag that stands atop Valhalla, and sort of watches over it.

I'm playing around with background to find something I like. I'm aiming for the two perched on a rocky outcrop, with the world stretching away beneath them. So far though, I'm having difficulties making them fit into the picture, they sort of pop out too much. Also, rendering environmental textures is not my thing, so I'm trying to get rocky moss look, which so far isn't happening.

Hmm, I tried a heavy armoured guard guy, but it didnt work out, so I'm thinking undead crows/ravens, which watch for intruders, and then overwhelm them by numbers.
    Working on crow studies now.

    And some various inspirations:

    Asgard

The name Asgard stems from the Scandinavian mythology.

Asgard is the abode of the celestials, Utgard is the abode of the giants. Midgard is between the two -- better than Utgard, but inferior to Asgard. Midgard is the abode of the first pair, from whom sprang the human race. It was made of the eyebrows of Ymer, and was joined to Asgard by the rainbow bridge called Bifrost.

From the Dictionary of Phrase and Fable, describing Asgard:

The fortress of the Asir or the Northern gods, the Olympos of Scandinavian mythology. It is said to be situated in the centre of the universe, and accessible only by the rainbow-bridge (Bifrost). The word As means a "god," and gard an "enclosure," our "yard." Odin was priest of Asgard before he migrated to the Lake Logur or Moelar Sea

The kingdom of Asgard is the land surrounding and encompassing the city of Asgard, nestled within the Asgard Mountains and the Sea of Marmora. Except for the densely-populated city of Asgard, the kingdom is a rolling green meadow dotted with small farms (map of Asgard, more explanations).

    Quoting Norse Myths:

Thor is the mightiest of the Norse gods. Odin is his father; his mother is Earth. He drives a chariot pulled by two goats, and he has three great treasures: a belt that, when he wears it, doubles his strength; the terrible hammer Miollnir, with which he smites his enemies; and a pair of iron gloves, which he must wear to wield the hammer. Thor, red-bearded god of sky, is the guardian of Asgard, home of the gods, and of the homes and farmsteads of his worshipers.
