    Thumbs up Sculpture Resources

    Hello everyone,

I thought it would be a good idea to start a sculpture resource thread because I think all of us would benefit from it from it. It'll save a lot of questions that are often asked, from types of clay to where to look for inspiration. Basically anything to do with sculpture. So, in this thread we could chip in our links of:

-Sculpting suppliers (I think stating the county would be a good idea)
    -Inspirational sites/blogs/stores
    -Recommended books
    -Types of clay
-Websites (even your own website or thread)
-And anything else for that matter!

    Artists

    Toys & Collectibles

    Let the er.. links begin!!

Ok I'm only recommending one's I use, all good

    The Net
    Craftmill.co.uk
    http://www.craftmill.co.uk/epages/St...ops/CraftMill/
They do sculpey and have a bulk buy of good acrylic paints and great choice of colours.
However a recent price increase on sculpey makes them less competitive.

    4D Modelshop Ltd
    http://www.yellowcatshop.co.uk/shop/...bcatid=3500022
The biggest range of everything ever!!
The site can be tricky to navigate, but so many gems it's worth it!
They stock all sculpey and...SMOOTH ON!

    Aves Studio
    http://www.avesstudio.com/index.html
All things Apoxie Clay, they are US based but happily ship to UK, email them for quote, around £35 postage.

    The Polymerclaypit
    http://www.polymerclaypit.co.uk/
You guessed it, top dog for Super Sculpey, bulk discounts.

    Alec Titanti
    http://www.tiranti.co.uk/category_list.asp
Lord of clay, alot of earthenware clay for about a tenner.
Chavant, & Sculpey but not firm.

Alright here's a rising star I found recently, superb!

    Creative Resources Distribution/ Propbuilder.co.uk
    http://www.propbuilder.co.uk/products.html
    WED CLAY! Nuff said.

    Eastcoast Fibreglass
    http://www.ecfibreglasssupplies.co.uk/store/
Supplys to marine industry which means mega bulk bargains!

    The foamboard store
    http://foamboard-store.co.uk/
    Yup, foam borad, excellent quality.

    Tomps
    http://www.tomps.com/
Casting and mouldmaking supplies, great value RTV!

    The High Street

    Poundland
Masking tape £1 five rolls & wire!
Loads of ghastly nick naks ready to be butchered for parts.
Also sell large bottles of Lucozade, perfect for those allnight sculptathons.

    Halfords
Aluminium mesh, spray paints, some epoxy putty. Ballbearing races for eyes.

    GamesWorkshop
    Excellent paints and brushes.

    British Bookshops Sussex Stationers
System 3 Acylics, colour card- Last resort quite pricey.

    WH Smith
Paper paper paper oh and pens.

    B&Q
You must buy a huge gallon tub of PVA glue, lasts ages, super quality £10.

    Robert Dyas
Last resort hardware store if you can't get to B&Q- Expensive!

    C&H Fabrics
Although aimed at the sewing world they have branched into Fimo.
Also sell beads, good for eyes plus loads of nik naks.

    Rymans
    Foam board.

    Maplin
Dental tools, precision tools and L.E.D.s.

    Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda etc
    Foil and PG TIPS!!!!!!!!

Phew, now you all know as much as me,
which means you can do what I do,
which puts you in direct competition with me,
which means I'm an idiot for giving away my secrets.

    ENJOY EXCLUSIVE

While wandering around Ikea i stumbled upon this little gem... ok, not so little, its 38cm across. It officially a 'lazy susan' for putting your snack bowls / condiments on, but i'll be using it for spinnin' my sculpture around to access them from all angles. And all for the bargain price of £5.59!

ooooooh i live near an IKEA, and that lazy susan be lookin HOT!!! and for those state side. heres http://compleatsculptor.com/Merchant...tore_Code=tcs1 , these folks got the woiks. i have ordered from them in the past, and they never let me down. of course now if one plans to order from the states and your livin in the UK or wherever, be ready to pay a lil extra. but worth it. then again, its only for those hard to find items. wendy froud , the lady behind Yoda, and wife of brian froud the goblin king himself , has been goin to the store and teachin courses. and you can even buy tools that she has designed. if you wanted to.

Hi Raumer, I'm not sure about the price but there is a make of airbrush called Aztec which is brilliant. I used to do a lot of airbrush illustration before going digital and have used, tried, tested and own loads of different airbrushes over the years. However the Aztec range are basic, really simple, and easy to use, well priced and very robust. I've had mine for about ten years and it's still going strong. I've sprayed most things through it and can't recommend it highly enough. What I will say is whatever one you get is to always be in the habit of Keeping it clean and never let paint dry inside it.

I also liked my Aztec air brushes, but my all time workhorse was an Iwata hp-bc. Great gun, but like all airbrushes must be cleaned constantly for the best performance. I haven't cranked those babies out in years...always loved pulling the friscit off a painting and see it come alive...memories...
