The face is great! I can't wait to see how the rest of it turns out.
I almost want to see more of a twinkle in his right eye. The left can remain in shadow.
Good job!

he is blind in his left eye (our right)- is that not clear?
A right scurvey knave. Looking great so far. Nothing to criticize. Presumably you'll tighten up the detail and make his clothes look a bit more worn...
Blind in his one eye? I can only tell when they have an eyepatch.Looks quite fine by me, hope you can get the folds down.
Re: the blind eye, you might consider using the tried 'n' true (aka kinda trite) cataract effect, sort of a milky coloration. As it is it's the damaged eye that seems to be seeing the viewer, imo.
Re: clothing -- patches, frayed hems, dirt 'n' blood stains, maybe a spot of curry? (sorry, my Red Dwarf addiction is kicking up)

started on some sort of bg, changed the shirt a bit and his eye ball.....thanks for the comments so far.
Love it so far!
You might want to change the angle of his hand on the gun though because it doesn't look like he's properly holding the grip. It's got a really steep angle even though his hand looks like he's gripping something straighter than that.

Looks pretty sweet. Finish the hands- they need to look at least as good as the face. Try to start tightening it up on the whole, it needs to lose the blurriness. I quite like it though, got a lot of character.

The end of the sword is creating a bit of a tangent. Otherwise looks sweet so far!
Other than the previous comments, it looks great. I would add some rust or notches for aging the sword(it might look too shiny and clean for a pirate) and maybe to the gun as well. For reference, the obvious: Pirates of the Caribbean? You could check for the "funny" pirate couple. I think they wear the most worn out clothes of all.
I likes. Damaged eye is much better now with milky look.
PS
I looked at your sketch book great structure and figure studies.
Looks nice, but unfinished. Put more details in the focal points.

The rendering of the face is wonderful..
the hands & gun could use some detail though..
