"Steering perception? i am.
Inviting contradiction? i am."
i like the weekly community activities, but i don't have enough time to do one well drawn thing in a week,
and generally i wind up wanting to do the next one in hopes of finishing that one, before i finish the one i'm on.
So i decided i will post in here, along with whatever else i have done/am doing--the drawings/sculptures as i get them done for
whatever COW/CHOW/IDW etc that i have decided i want to do, instead of trying to get them done for a poll and rushing something.
COW# whatever.."Household Pests"
i liked this one and i had 3 ideas i wanted to do.This one i called the Drain Clogger. i am posting this one now simply because its what i am working on at the moment, and am having fun with it. i will post the quick sketches of the other two ( an aglet eater and sock warrior) after i post the ones i have of the drain clogger. The reason for the titles and listing of materials on each image is because i used these in my independent study proposal at the university (hahaha!) and my prof. likes to have all the info.
Here is the quick sketch of the Drain Clogger:

Here are the pics after it was fired. i hope i am posting it right!
It's made out of Longhorn Red low-fire clay because i was waiting for my delivery of balcones clay and got impatient. Nick didn't mind the change in clay so neither do i. Oh yeah Nick is my prof. btw. i tend to rant about him quite a bit...so now you know who he is.
The tail was broken off during drying, due to stupidity of myself. i had it wrapped up and on a straight board, and when i moved it i didn't notice i had pushed the piece off center of the board. The tail was protruding off the board and gave way to gravity. Go me. Stupid. Anyway, it's easily fixed with glue and sculpey or with some Bondo, so i i didn't mind.

I have nothing to say, but that is one hell of a jump from 2D to 3D. Have you thought about doing a claymation short when you get the chance?

FightingSeraph Hi--It's a bad change do you mean? Sometimes i draw just the general idea, and it changes quite a bit as i build it.
Why do you ask about claymation? It is something i have always wanted to do, i might do one for my final in Intro to Film/Video this semester if i have enough time.
i'll be painting this over the next few days. Hopefully i will get an airbrush soon!
pics of the sculpey i added on yesterday:

The aglet eater. got the idea from a coconut crab.
drew it up a while ago for a contest..somewhere..
redid it some and decided he'd make a good aglet chomper. colors are for reference of underglazes/glazes to use.
built up to the neck in balcones clay this afternoon, sans arms. will change the leg things on head most likely to something more..head ish and not so leg-ish.Perhaps make them leg/arms protruding out from
the back and curling up to where they show in picture.
didn't enter him in COW since i'd made him before hand.can't cheat.
as a side note, dida chick.dum a chum. hehehehe.

figured it was about time to actually sit down and learn how to use painter. used the pencil and the tortillion, roughly 30 minutes. i'll get something to look at tomorrow to learn how to show light correctly.
d/l a trial of zbrush after talkin to/ stalkin brett briley at reverie.
will try that out later on.

this one has some color. logitech headset. about an hour w/ painter. i know other people can do this much better and in about 5 minutes-- its the first thing i tried to draw on painter from a reference, so i am happy with it. i don't know why its so hard to do something on a computer that i can do without a problem on paper.the computer's sposed to make it easier, neh?

Syd the Rabbit, a still from the first stop motion i've ever made that is more than 10 seconds. LOL Still PSing out the tie down holes.(hopefully successfully!)
Made out of sculpey, wire, foam, purple and white sheet material, hot glue, acrylic paint, nuts, bolts, screws, plumbers putty and 10 minutes of tears when his neck broke completely off during the final 1000 shots.

Need a good camera and some better lights, the desk lamp is not my friend.
Happy with the results, want some more sliminess but don't know how to achieve it.

This was built first in terra cotta clay and bisque fired w/o ears or horns. Those were worked on with super sculpey afterwards because i was afraid of them being broken off during drying/firing.
i sprayed the whole thing with a "terra cotta" american accents spraypaint to see if i liked it, which i dont,so i will be re-painting it with acrylics later on.
i am adding more sculpey onto the bottom of the neck, which will be ripped off skin and then have part of the vertebrae hanging out.
He needed to have more of a reason to be screaming, i think. Also i might add a light source behind his neck so that it will shine out of his mouth while it hangs on the wall.

it's been like a year. The last 8 months were spent getting a portfolio together for SMU and the last 2 spent attending SMU guildhall. Yay. i got in. Wow, is it intense. Lack of computer skills and program knowledge has made it sort of nuts, but im getting a handle on it.
Feel free to comment, especially on the 3dsmax, even tho they are just basic "first things built" tutorial-type stuff because that is where i have the most trouble and need the most help.
* i just realized im on the wrong comp. school work is on my laptop. Posts to come in a bit. hahaha

Will be posting stuff from Mod 1 at the Guildhall. Currently im on break from Mod 2.
i am struggling with learning 3dsmax. i have never used it before joining the Guildhall at SMU.
i have been using it since January, so approximately 4 months.
Crates were what we learned first.

3rd project. We made the catapult in class, then we were supposed to "add something" to it so i chose a giant marshmellow on a stick. Yah.![]()
"Steering perception? i am.

Stuff done Mod 1 in Drawing class at guildhall
Speedpaintings: our prof would give us images and we had 30 min to try to recreate them.
"Steering perception? i am.
Inviting contradiction? i am."
Other stuff from mod1:
Portrait of ian mckellan (still WIP)
Gun Texturing ( we were given the model sheet, i didnt make the gun just textured it)
Sprite sheet Its a bi-pedal, tailess ferret. i dont know how to get the animation on CA.
"Steering perception? i am.
Inviting contradiction? i am."
Stuff done this mod:
classwork: handgun model, lancia model (wont upload the turntable..blah)
lab work: unreal weapon model.
It's still not done, textures need a lot more work but this is how far i got in the time we had. Concept still needs lots of work, im still happy with what i did tho.
labwork: albatros diii. The only model so far that i am happy with. Needs more work, of course, but still im really happy with what i was able to accomplish.

Starting to understand 3dsmax a bit better. Still have much more to learn with unwrapping.
It was hard to tell what should get stitched/what should stay separate, etc..
i need to work on texturing/ lighting a bunch more.
Overall i am happy because this is the first model i was able to feel a sense of progress with my work.

Current Project: Create an Unreal Character.
We're supposed to draw up the model sheet & then model it in 3dsmax.
First roughs/ some linework. Side view legs are not angled right, havent fixed them yet.
