    Now and yonder

Nerding it up, as much as I can.
Sketches and sillies, mostly. Mostly sillies.

Cool stuff so far, you should do a lot of studies and learn anatomy, tis a good place to start. I like the silhouettes, they have a cool atmosphere and mood about them. Just gotta define them and make them into cool characters and whatnot. As for making your figures pop, usually its all about the contrast, if your figures are grey and your background is grey theyre going to blend together, if you have light against dark it will generally make things pop more.

Thanks Wolfentir (I love the A.Rackham studies, the colours are definitely the same feel) I'll keep that contrast tip in mind. I just can't seem to get it right,
on nearly all of my pieces. Those quick animations are nice also.

I'm going through Hogarth's Dynamic Anatomy atm, a bit donut/I mean daunting, but
I'm just going to copy this whole book and see if anything sticks.
Else, I may just have to read it also.

Overlay, say what what, that may just be one of the possible answers to
    that piece. Woohoooo!
Thank you Massa, there could just be hope for 'Apocrysis' after all.

    Mach girl and cool guy.

Long time no post. But this is one of my latest roughs.
I think the gesture and renderings I'm starting to pick up on.
It took a quite a bit of time to get to this stage. 3hrs?
    But I'll get there.

[Take note, the image was web optimized so it's ONLY 224KB ... You're welcome 56K'ers )
A bit of a shitty quality, but ey, I'm thinking of you fellow 56K'er)

I'm still trying to get some contrast or some sort of elements
to add interest to the piece. On all my pieces actually.
Thank you for the tip Grand Masta.

    Cheers rogerb,
I'm trying to get a sketchbook full of anatomy studies. Slowly getting there.
I feel like I can do silhouettes ok, but not the actual rendering of anatomy.
    No other way though.

Ratish: Thanks mate, although completely un-intentional, I think the 'save to web' optimization

-RebelOfRevolving ... I was going to run through your website, but I stopped on the clown. I don't like clowns.
-Thank you Kiera, your sb I envy. Just like I do with everyone that does anatomy studies. Lovely.

(Please, please Kiera, check your pm. I need to know which hard critiques may have
hurt someone ... I don't want to be a douchebag around here ...
I'm just here to learn along with everyone)
If I have offended anyone with my critiques, pm me and I'll gladly discuss it with you. Sincerely.

update edit: I need to work on my colour theory. It aaaa sucks.

i like the first draw that you have here..
maybe you could try adding some colors to your works in gray scale?, i think that it would be quite interesting to see the results =P!

if you are new with PShop.. you can change the "layer mode" to "multiply"(the layer that has your grayscale draw, and leave all the layers with colors below). there are more ways.. but i like this one :B

Best regards! and thanks for your comments! =)

ah' an the ref for the knee it looks ok the hip area looks a bit off i think if it was shaped a bit more it would be fine ...you could also throw on a new layer an use a red line an make a guide ..an another layer over to paint on then disgaurd the red or outline layer

[Sorry for the late reply. I forgot to check back.]
-Kiera: Thank you for clearing that up. Much appreciated. [I have cut back on the critiques though. Just in case]
-InCOUM: Thank you for the tip. Although having only found out the importance of values, and I kind of
understand the colour layer blending mode. I now add a layer on top of the grays, set it to 'color' blend mode, and
colour from there. I still do the multiply if it's just a line art. Cheers mate.

    Grandmassa:
Please clean up your double post. You're on very thin lines mate I'm still trying to figure out how to finish her butt.
It has to be perfect, like Liv Tyler.

Really nice drawings, I especially love the evolution of the girl with the boots.
My recommendation would be to get to some life drawing classes or use photo to do some studies.
This helped me quite a bit and too warm up and improve on my line work I used posemaniacs.com's 30\60 second drawing tool.
    keep drawing

    Hi Dwardo,
I came by to tell you how much I respect all of the critiques you do and I wanted to see your work. I dig it. Man, beware of Hogarth, I studied him and it took me ages to shake the bad drawing ticks out of my system. No one in real life looks like his figures. Also, he doesn't teach useful drawing procedures.
Go with Loomis man, he has the most solid drawing practices I have found.
    Check this book out,
    http://www.scribd.com/doc/10338/Andr...essful-Drawing
and if you practice his processes, rather than just copying his drawings, I know you will see impressive improvement. I still study him. His revelations knock me out. Hey, I've learned much about digital work from visiting your sketchbook! Thanks man.

Bagg: Cheers mate, I love your sketchbook I might give posemaniacs a go.
I've seen it suggested a few times around here, it's just that, I need more than 30\60 to figure out my
poses I'm always touching my own muscles and bones while drawing, it seems almost in-appropriate.

Fail Ed, fail, I do look like that. It took
me a while to work out all the ice-cream fat, but o ye, I'm very happy.

Seriously your freakin lines and colours are crazy. I'm glad you joined, 'cause I've read a few genius bombs from
you that I never would've thought about.
Rgarding Hogarth, yeah, I agree, but his stylised poses are very good looking. His clavicles suck though
I've got Loomis on the hard drive, Jeno Barcsay "Anatomy for the Artist" and a few muscle magazines.

Mischeviouslittleelf: Thank you, I'm trying to do more, it's just, my anatomy sucks, and I'm left with
just a few poses that I feel comfortable with. I love profiles, but I've yet to get comfortable doing 3/4.
I'm not even going to mention the rest of the body. There's a lot of 'iffys' I have to make sure of.

SuRR. Thank you. I very much love that pose too, you can't tell if she's about to fall on dog shit or she's on an invisible jumping castle covered in mud. I dig your website. Your 'Smoke' piece is so cool, it reminds me I shoud've taken up smoking as well.

More heads for now while I meditate for more knowledge about the human anatomy.
