--Update--
I was disappointed I missed the previous familiar round so I playing around with ideas for this COW and ended up coming up with something I really liked. To make up for the fact I never posted in the WIPs thread I compiled a process page. Instead of brainstorming the creature beforehand I enjoyed just letting it create itself from the rather nondescript first outline.

oh thats cool! its so cute too!
Trying to practice a bit more with drawing people as well as updating more often.
Sketchy face practice from a photograph I found on this site http://www.portrait-photos.org/ There are some really interesting faces on there with great lighting I recommend checking it out.
Painted this one based on a photograph I found in this old thread: The Appreciation of the Feminine Form.
And a random critter I sketched as well.

Time to update!
Got inspiration from C.O.W. again, and am enjoying using pencil for something more than a quick doodle after doing mostly digital stuff.
Some quick loose sketches:
Another serpent revision, does anyone else have specific character/creature designs they just can't seem to stop revising? I have a couple, this being one of them, were I'll maybe be satisfied with the design for a few months and then I come back thinking it is so-so and that I must revamp it.
And now for something completely different! Every once in a while I like to dabble in sculpting. It's nice and relaxing especially if I'm getting fed up with 2D stuff. I started this probably about 2 years ago around the time I became seriously ill so I never finished it. Recently I decided I was going to try to finish it regardless of a few anatomy problems with the legs that I'm not sure if I'll be able to fix because of the armature underneath. I'm having fun figuring out how to make the best of it though, and am quite happy with the revisions so far.

The difference between the first and last page on your SB is amazing!! Your creature designs are so creative, and I love your style.
Nice stuff in here! Your creatures are both awesome and creepy at the same time.
Awesome stuff man, love your rendering style and also your pencil stuff. Latest Cow is lookin niiiiiice.
That sculpture is also lookin awesome, its good to see your flexible in your use of medium. What is the sculpture made out of?
Keep it the great work![]()
rumpenstiltzkin: Thanks for the kind words!
NickyBeats: You're welcome, I think I actually found it on a thread somewhere around this site but I can't remember were.
Amarok: Thanks! I like looking at the first page every now and then and seeing how far I'm come but at the same time I still got a long way to go.
Shadow Stalker: Thanks man!
Logistic puppet: Thanks! The sculpture is made out of Super Sculpey with a wire armature.

Here's the finished COW, this week I've been pretty busy so I didn't get to work on it as long as I would have liked to. I'm a bit unsure of how well the color works, I tried to do something a bit similar to the Harpy pic I did a while back but it doesn't feel like it clicked as well. I'm pretty pleased with the pencil sketch though so I'm going to post the final pencil work as well.

Hey GoldenSerpent. Really nice updates. Absolutely loved what you came up with for the most recent round. That sculpture is looking good. The revisions are really stunning, and it's starting to remind me a lot of your Alpha Land Predator and that creature living amongst all the red, tubular plant-life.
As for the design revision thing, I get that a lot when I'm trying to design dragons. I feel they have to be so perfect, and every time I come up with something I think is perfect I feel like I need to revise it the day after.

Definitely a fiver from me too.
Si_Swe:Thanks! The sculpture actually is the same creature as the one in the red planet picture so I'm glad the sculpture is looking more like it. I knew I couldn't be alone, but it's still comforting to hear from other artists that they go through the same thing.
Small update with a few sketches, the large scary looking bird thing and the small cute bird thing were actually designed as ideas for COW 232 but I didn't get the time to get past the sketching phase.
Here are a few sketches at this weeks COW although I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to finish, it's still fun to brainstorm. The last picture I did as a sketch for COW but I don't think it fits the standard definition of beautiful enough for the topic but I like the design so I might develop it more later.

wooooww... i'm really impressed by your range and skill, both digital and traditional! anything left that you haven't drawn yet?
if i were to criticize, i might say that soooometimes you tend to go a tad too far with your detail, for example in the gold COW painting. it looks like you tried to nail absolutely everything down and it makes the image look a bit harsh and flat.
that's critique at the highest level tho, and just cuz i was trying really really hard to find something![]()
This Sketchbook is mighty awesome!! Would love to see a tutorial from you if you find the time, i find your technique impecable! Im left speechless
Check out my sketchbook
Hello there!
Had a blast looking through your sketchbook. The pencilwork is impressive, but your 'red predator' in the red environment is my absolute favorite. You have a knack for environment painting as well. You should look into that. No harm in broadening your horizon :]
The creature designs themselves are spotless and I like the fact you post your progress, something that others like myself could learn a lot from. I never tried creature design myself but perhaps, soon...
Anyway, keep up the good work. I'm deffinitely subscribing to your sketchbook!
I don't really have anything useful to say, other than your CoWs are amazing!
Very danger creatures here))
sweet sketchbook!!! your creature are original and kick ass!! keep posting and its great to see yor cow creatures, keep posting man!

Thanks again guys, been a bit busy so no new finished pictures at the moment but I did make a Tigerpede tutorial and I figured I'd also post a compilation of sketches both digital and traditional just to keep this thread alive.
NeonDuck
Thanks man, I appreciate the criticism, looking back on it I did overwork that background. Definitely still need to figure out a happy medium between too sketchy and too detailed with backgrounds.
So here's the Tigerpede Tutorial, if you have any questions feel free to ask but hopefully it sums everything up okay.
Sketches! the big black creature is the critter I was working on for the black beauty C.O.W. but wasn't able to finish in time.

Great creature designs! absolutely love
Great work here! The Tigerpede tutorial is very insightful, thanks for putting it together.
Love your works! Very inspirational.
Reminds me Arcimboldo style a bit![]()
Beautiful creature work, V jealous!
Zhrayde: Thank you!
Wheeljack18: Thanks, glad you found the tutorial useful!
tsabu: Thank you very much!
GEB: Thanks!
Some more sketches, big cat studies, monster arm doodles, and a funky looking tree from a nearby park.
More cat sharks because they still amuse me...and a dachshund-Royal Python mix.
Here's something quite a bit different, I felt like messing around with a very short comic (there's only one more page to this) just to get a bit of a feel for comics. This is still a WIP, I was thinking about waiting to put it up till I was finished with it but decided it might be best to put it up now and possibly get some critiques. I'm liking the feel of the backgrounds but I don't know if the panels are flowing well enough and the dialogue seems kind of bland...I'm not really sure what else to do with the dialogue. Oh yeah, nakedness on the last panel so NSFW
