Yeah, hard brushes definitely make you work harder but make the image a lot better. Which are you planning on fleshing out?

None right now. I'm going to participate in the upcoming DominanceWar so I will start making characters pretty soon. Planning to do alot of thumbs.
Though you never know, might dig up these in the future if I run out of ideas.

I like the contrast in the thumbnails. I still have a hard time reading them as one whole sequential. But I see how the scenery and them is related though.

You mean like they are hard to read when they are placed next to each other?

Oh, I'm trying to read the panels like a comic, like series of events. So I'm not I'm suppose to.

Ohh, poor little robot, all sad and alone. Reminds me of a song (Girls Aloud-Untouchable) only that he isn't really beutiful.... Oh god I'm rambling, sry.
I feel like the trees in the background are all in the same distance form eachother which seems kinda unnatural, but nice overall.

Second one is good apart of the bg. The mountains are constructed by way too many small strokes. Bigger strokes defining light and shadow areas would be a lot better.

    Cheers

Thanks for the crits, I'll keep em in mind. Good that you pointed out things I kinda forgot about.

The landscapes will have to rest for now since it's time for DominanceWar4!

I will have my WIP thread at polycount but I'll also post my progress here since even if I will participate in 3d I will have to do alot of concepting first.

Been developing 2,9 and 7 a bit further. Personally I like B1 the most. Might do some more sketches of that one.

Nice thumbnails I like #2 personally. Some look like real badass boss types. #8 looks almost like a floater type monsters...like phantom to me don't know why but looks good.

JailHouse: Thanks, yeah I will post some 3D when I get to that part.

PigeonKill: Glad you like em as well. What do you mean by "phantom"? Is it some kind of character?

EDIT: Ops, almost forgot to put up the pic. Silly me.

Tonights progress. Think I'm going somewhere with the arms. No idea what I should do with the weapon though.
While lokking at it right now I also notice I maybe should reduce the body armor a bit. Perhaps only keep the belly part.

Okay, made some more work on the character and some weapon/instrument thumbs. He's becoming more a musician than a priest but I guess it's for the better. It still fits his power of manipulation. He uses his music to motivate his followers to do evil deeds.

On second though I think I'll scrap the i3 and i4 right away since it would be strange to combine one air driven instrument with another, or at least it wouldn't make that great music.

    i1: Banjo + Morningstarsomething
    i2: Guitar + Axe
    i3: Saxophone + Spear
    i4: Flute + Maze

Perhaps I should make drums on his back instead, or both?
For the organ I was thinking two directions; the sackpipe style with the engine visible or the more classic decorated style?

I think I should start modeling pretty soon. Feels like i'm just overworking the concept right now.
Do you ever get the feeling you're creating new problems by trying to fix old ones?

Just some random speedie tonight. Been slow on getting started on the modelling of my character. Since I make models all the day at the studio I'm doing internship at I'm not very keen on starting up Maya again when I come home.
Well, it has to get started pretty soon or I'll just regret it.

Hey there, a good start here. I think I can sense a little apprehensiveness in you work though... remember when you start out, don't be afraid to just slam down those colours, don't be too careful, focus more on the image you have in your head at that stage. That way you won't labor over your work so much. You're on the road to kick-ass, just keep treading down it
Please give erudite, constructive critiques or give none at all.

Thanks for the kind words. And I'm actually have some 3D to show this time. Nothing fancy. Been slow on the start but now I at least have the basemesh for body and head, so I can move on to clothing and the gear. Everything will be put in to ZBrush later on when I got all my meshes done.
If you wonder why I haven't connected the neck to the body it's simply because that part will be covered and most of the body will serve as reference for clothing. There will be no body in the hipoly, only clothes.

Oh, phantom are like ghost like creatures. Spirits that float in the air, something like that. Your sketchbook reminds I got to do some more thumbnail practice myself on paper. I found it easier work digital for that.

I like that nice evil grin that 3d monster has. He also has a hug butt, for his size perfect. I'm not sure about his feet being able to realistically balance the top heavy of his body. But it's fantasy as along as it looks good.

Glad you like. About the feet I can also see the problem but I think it's nothing to worry about really. He's not very natural anyway.
Though the thought interest me, if his body would work in reality. His legs would have to be very strong that's for sure.

Okay, was a while since I posted and stuff is coming along. More or less finished with the hipoly on the banjo. Working on the basemeshes for the character and I think I'll skip the organ since I don't really like it anymore and I think the design on him overall would be alot more clearer plus I'm a bit short on time. The banjo seems to be the main attraction anyway judging from the response on other forums.
