I appreciate the positive feedback Orkimede!

Finished painting the minis. The first model paint-job I'm pretty happy with. Lots of imperfections of course but it's been a nice learning experience.

Started a new illustration today. Basing from the sketchbook as a bunch of others previosly posted. I like this workflow.

Made changes to the pose. Makes more sense now.
It's interesting how much harder the body is to paint since I didn't have any base drawing for it. Having the opposite condition for the head it was just a matter of coloring and eliminating lines through shading.
Got to admit, I'm not sure if the creature is floating on water or walking through some fluid-ish mass, like a star-gate portal. Had water in mind first but I'll make up my mind as I go along.

Nice job painting the miniature, it reminds me of good times at hobby shops. If you are feeling extra creative you can even add a war signet/crest on the fore head panel of the machine or bullet holes.

Recorded the progress of my latest illustration thing.

Wouldn't mind doing more of these. Would you folks find it interesting to see more demos like this from me?

Thanks. I've always been fascinated by the whole war-gaming thing but never got around to really get started with it.

A symbol would be cool. The warjacks in this set even have a symbol painted on them in the box cover but I haven't tried my hand on freehand painting so wouldn't risk it on these. Will be something to experiment with for future projects, as well making various types of damage.

Did a new painting video this weekend. Figured I should do quicker images to make the videos more interesting to watch.

Wrapped up the modelling of the warcaster, started rigging and slapped up a base for texturing. I'm going for hand painted. Not much to look at right now but it's progress.

So here's the current progress. In the awkward state where some things are nicer than others but it's starting to take shape. The biggest issue right now is balancing the colors of the armor and coat. The face is also going to be a challenge as I'm looking for a somewhat attractive tom-boy look of her so it'll be a balancing act.
Additionally I'm designing the details as I go which I would not really recommend. For this project I wanted to try to make something on the fly without a concept which really slowed me down and not that I didn't know it before but it's a healthy reminder of the importance to resolve any design issues on paper before moving on to actually build the thing.

After looking more the Khador faction in Warmachine I noticed that black plays quite a big role in their color-scheme so I made some changes. Still not hay with the face, need to do some more reference-looking.

Really inspiring stuff. Your work reminds me of a friend of mine. This is his blog http://stuffidrood.blogspot.com/ He is a total jack of all trades that loves doing wargame minis too. Good job on the Darksiders mace as well, I wanted to do one for that contest too, a couple other Vigil guys did just for fun, but I was a little swamped during the contest.

Very glad that you like my stuff. That friend of yours has some really great skill, will keep my eyes on his blog for sure.

The Darksiders comp was a great learning experience, particularly since I stayed away from using any sculpting application which in a way was a shot in the foot but I picked up some tricks. I wonder sometimes why I'm not more active in participating in competitions. Suppose they don't always match my current "ambitions", and as you said about not having time due to work, comps require more work than one might think.

Since CA been acting strange I've been holding off from posting so this will be a bit of a chunk.

First off I've finished the illustration I call "Lady Red" and put up a timelapse on Vimeo.

Secondly I've been trying out gouache paint and I like it a lot. It's quite versatile to work with. I also used markers for darkening and ink-pen for blacks.

Nice 3d model. The back pack that's almost like coal burner is a nice tough. I laughed at the drawing of the winged demon with horns. Looking all badass but he has small manhood...lol.

I like your unarmoured space marine. He would have to have those proportions to fit into that armor, eh?

Yes indeed. I'm quite fascinated by the fluff surrounding them and how they are surgically enhanced to almost ridiculous levels. I haven't found out how they obtain the extra growth, going from a normal human to a semi-giant but I sure is there's some musculature involved.

Been drawing more from reference. Need to practice more realistic female faces.

Good job breaking out of your comfort zone. I like how the faces feel very female, but not the cliche plasticky girl-face

kevin_: One can never have too much anatomy. Not stopping delving into that at any time soon to put it lightly.

ForScience: Indeed, by nature I'm drawn towards more stylized semi-realistic stuff, particularly the clean female faces but I felt my knowledge of real structure is lacking, making it harder to create faces with personality, and I want to get better at creating beautiful imperfections.
