fireblade Thanks, being able to look back and notice improvement is one of my main reasons I maintain this sketchbook. For me painting from life (digitally of traditionally) is what helped me a lot with colors.
    kasblue Glad to help.

kasblue Still doens't come close to match the quality of Repin's original painting, but thanks.

Today I did a Singer paiting, started a second one that I'll probably finish tomorrow.

Holy shit, man, how come I've never seen this sketchbook before. Fantastic oil paintings man! Honestly I got so inspired that I actually got the urge to take out my oil paints again.

The effect of the paintings on the text background is really sweeet too. Adds quite a stylish feel to the painting. Just very lovely.

Teun, brilliant work. Keep at it.

Goremageddon and anyone else who bogs themselves down with negative ideas like "I'll never be that good"- First, I want you to read this. Read it. Then read it again. http://www.noahbradley.com/blog/2012/remove-negativity/

While you're at it, read every entry on Noah's blog: http://www.noahbradley.com/blog/

When Teun says that it takes dedication, he means painting every day. He means struggling through bad paintings and good, and making this something that you fight for. It's not easy, but those who really struggle and take this as their passion break through and become something great.

Aaron_ Thanks, glad you were able to find your way here. Oils is a cruel but rewarding mistress.
kasblue Thanks, it's a painting by William Bouguereau, I believe it's called "Prayer".
CountBlackula Thanks for the words of kindness and wisdom.

Somewhere in the last few days my sketchbook became a 5 star sketchbook. This was quite the milestone for me, and means a lot. Looking back at all the years ago I first started coming to this site. I would look in awe at all the great artists this place has (and had) to offer. People like Min Bumskee, Bjorn Hurri, Dave Rapoza, Algenpfleger. Now I am still miles and miles away from reaching their level. But achieving this 5 star rating feels like getting one step closer to reaching my goal.

Anyways, felt like I should say something.
    Here's today's painting.

Wow, thanks a lot for the links CountBlackula. I´ve actually gone through the whole website. Amazing words in there. I guess I´ll just try to achieve my goals one at a time. I see such good artists everywhere. So much inspiration. To me it´s both inspirational and intimidating..I know the latter shouldn´t be on my list of feelings but I´ve been struggling with drawing since I was 16. Didn´t get to where I want to be yet. Maybe one day.

    And Teundeboer,

that painting shows a lot of emotion. I love the fact that one of her arms is not supported, which makes the body tumble slightly to the right (or to the left if we´re looking a tthe picture). Do you use references for your paintings?

I always love me some traditional art! values and proportions are pretty spot on
but I think your work could improve tenfold if you worked some more on hue and saturation.
It might be partly due the photos but to me it seems that you use a lot of pure white.
It looks a bit unnatural and it drags down the saturation too much.
That's only nitpicking and of course it's not in every painting.

    keep up the awesome work!

kasblue Thanks, I think Bouguereau had a passion for painting the hands of little girls.
Goremageddon Thanks, this last painting is a study of a painting by William Bouguereau (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...cropped%29.jpg)
Eric-Anthony Thanks, I started digitally but fell in love with oil paints.
NickyBeats Why thank you, I'll store those bonus points.
Xelar Thanks for the feedback, I think you're right. It's definitely something I should implement more consciously. Although the photo's don't show the colors perfectly, but that'll always be the case.
    MeteorCat Thanks.

This one was a bit of a race against the clock, I got home at 15:30 and it starts getting too dark outside to paint at around 17:00, but I really wanted to do a painting today. So a quick Ilya Repin study.

How long does it take you to complete a painting? You seem to be doing them quick and yet they don't look sloppy at all.
