    Talking Michelle's Sketchdump

I just discovered this site ;]

I have no art education, I am self taught. Due to this, I would love ANY ADVICE you can give me.

I encourage red lining my work, I will not be offended. I want to learn more.

My vice is video games. For the moment that video game is world of warcraft. I guess everyone gets to a point where they feel uninspired and do something less creative like read a book or play video games. I really need to draw more, it makes me feel good when I do.

some of the stuff I plan to work on is:

    Scenery
    Hands
    Feet

    hey there welcome to CA

I can see you allready got a pretty good knownledge of anatomy
for the painting part i have some tips.

when painting try to work on a non white background, white hurts your eyes after a while and starts giving you a slightly different view on the colors you're using.

try using midtones and dont just darken your colors but try using other colors.
When you only use a darker version of a color it becomes pretty dull and dirty looking.

heres a very quick overpaint i did for you http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/4963/overpaintfp5.jpg

    i hope this helps

    keep it up

Yeah, I guess I have grown attached to using pens. I used to use mechanical pencils.

I lol'd when I read this. I DO need to give up warcraft. It really is soul consuming.

I got stuck on a drawing the other day and thought "I''l just go play WoW for an hour or 2" a week later - During server maintenance - here I am thinking "why do I play that stupid game!!!!"

Haven't tried gears of war but I thought about playing fallout 3. I recently played and enjoyed the witcher.. I'd like to play another game like that.

Great Linework, I really like your drawings. In my opinion, the digitals aren't as strong as your drawings. I think you use to much black to darken colors. This gives them a bit of a dirty look. Maybe try to use other colors than just black. A dark brown, blue or red.
But i'm not a professional so i might be wrong about that Take care and keep it coming.

I think your 3rd drawing is the strongest so far (it reminds me of the Wheel of Time series or something).

Me and you have a similar problem, which I have been trying to work on... but I think it is just our line quality. It's hard to describe.

Hi... your work is especially nice for someone who is self taught. Your lines are clean, your figures have good proportions and form. If you are looking for advice, and I'm not a pro but I'm passing along info from my college experience... you will really be helping your self to draw from life as much as possible. Hand Studies, self portraits in the mirror, statues out and about, still lifes with action fiures... anything, but the best exersize for drawing is to work from life. It's the best way to learn form.

Also I'd take a look at Algenpfleger's sketchbook thread. His progress is impressive.

Oh, and keep posting. Good Luck.
