Dan: Thanks man, I worked pretty hard on that one and was able to bring in a lot of the lessons I have been learning from doing those previous studies and the past two TAD semesters. I was thinking of mangrove trees when creating it so that's why they have a tentacle feel.

Ros1: Thanks for the compliment Your EoW turned out wicked man. I'll keep on pushing

Here are two w.i.p.'s, a progress shot of a cast light head study I'm doing. Second is an concept illustration. Perspective feels a little wonky in the second piece so I have to resolve that, but looking forward to the finish.

Hey Ninjac, great sketchbook so far. That portrait is coming along really well; the eyes and nose are just great and I love the texture you've got going on the cheek. I'm kinda confused by the alignment - it feels to me like the vertical line (chin, lips, nose) is slanting to the right just a tad (while the eyes are almost perfectly horizontal). Not totally sure though. Oh and the tree EOW in post #359 turned out great. I love the tree itself; the texture of the foliage up top and the shadow obscuring the branches underneath looks wonderful. For a little crit, the roots coming down the side could use a little more tonal variation. When they curve down, away from the light source, the value on their lit side should dim a little to emphasize their position in space. The ones on the right have a nice color gradiency, but almost no tonal changes.

That head study is looking rather good sir. Some real nice use of edges coming through, although a think a few well placed crisp edges will give it a little more pop!

I love the way the 2nd sketch is coming together, the textures and colours are working really well, and the values read great. The perspective issue is mainly with the foreground wooden thing (can;t think of the name for it!) but I'm sure you already know how to fix it if you haven't already.

Did I perchance see you in the background of the George Pratt workshop video download? If it was you colour me jealous...

Also, may I be so bold as to ask for a critique from your TAD filled brain? It's the latest image in my sb, I've been trying to be really conscious of my composition and leading and directing the eye and I'd love some feedback.

Dierat: Thanks for the crits. Much appreciated. I'll take another look at the head structure to make sure its aligned. I know what you mean about the tonal values on the EoW, its called light fall off. It something I knew about but didn't really start utilizing in my initial stages until this recent character concept. I'll add some touch ups on the Eow to make it stronger, thanks

Dan: Thanks man, yea the head study is teaching me much more about cast light and light direction. Yea I had the same thoughts about the perspective.
Yea I've been around George when he was filming for a few demos so it most likely was me

New work yay! Here is a water color study I did while up north visiting with family. My grandparents have a sweet house right on the lake. Couldn't resist
Next is another card illustration for FI. Might put a little more work into it but the cards are fairly small when you see them in game. Lastly the finished character concept from the previous thumbnails. "Leioku Takeda - The Final Relic"

Took a break for a bit to refresh and now I am getting back in the swing of things. TAD semester started back up again this Monday. Super excited to get started on my Entertainment major. Taking all kinds of entertainment classes and concept design ones. Gonna be a busy semester

Going to put all my personal works on hold for now, since class assignments will start pilling up quick. Here is the first for Jon Foster's Figure Painting class. Cast light study, about 3 hours, from Jon's photo ref. He actually made this little bust out of clay.

Awesome, didn't he use that sculpt for the illustration class a while back? He used it as a ref or the image of the man emerging from water with the frog I think on his head? I loved the water ripples in that one!

Got some good feedback from Foster. Trying to add some more life to this one. I put the photo ref away and just started to "feel it out"

Coming along real nice, although I think parts of it are coming across less solid than they should due to all the transparent strokes. I like the way you've started to lose edges at the base and his shoulder (?)

Dan: Thanks man. The transparent parts I find more interesting then trying to convey the solidity. So maybe just a subjective thing.

m0uS3r: Thank you I'll keep working hard.

You keeping up good work, some colour studies would be nice, sometimes your colour are quite saturated but that also might be personal choise..

    How are you btw?

Nettle: Thanks man, I'm doing well. Yea I need to work to find a balance between saturated and desaturation. Just more practice

TAD classes have been going great! We are doing a lot of research and getting exposure to tons of information on the entertainment industry. We are doing a good amount of writing and research assignments, and some concepts for secret projects so I can't show you these all yet, but here are some painting updates. First one is working on sight sizing and blind contours. Second is two sketches of some sweet clothing designs from http://www.steampunkcouture.com/
Last is a full color painting for class.

Some gun thumbnails for industrial design class. We were to pick an already created world and create gun thumbs that would fit in that world. I picked Ghost in the Shell We will eventually be taking these to a finish.

Another update from figure painting class. I need to work more on the minor changes of flesh tones. Still experimenting with different marks and brush types. Then and update of my gun concept for class. Still need some polishing and I should straighten the barrel instead of make in angled. Some of the construction is a bit confusing in parts so that need resolution but overall I'm really happy with how its turning out.

Loving that figure painting my friend, interesting warm and cool play going on. I really like the way you've painted the background as well, the sharp shapes on the drapery the figure is placed on gives a nice contrast to the softer shapes of her form.

Dan: Thanks man, her legs are actually the right size, her head was too big though, making her legs look short, I made a quick change

Knut-: Love the game reference , thanks for the compliment, I'll keep working hard.

Ahh yes my bad, looks much better now, but again mate, loving the way you're using colour atm. Is that your own experimentation or something you've picked up at TAD?

Dan: Thanks! I've always experimented with color the same way, but TAD has helped me to control my color variations better as well as use a cohesive palette from the start instead of throwing a bunch of color on the canvas and work harder to make them feel whole.

Fuggedaboudit: I appreciate you stopping by my sb Painty mark making is tons of fun and its something I've been trying to push in my work.
