    Hey Ninjac,
Very cool inks you have here and the portraits are nice especialy the last one in post #193, I think that one's rendered quite good
In the last study I think the proportions are a little off, for example her lower leg is kinda short
    Good luck and keep drawing

Really good sketchbook so far, my favourates have to be the pastels. It's nice to see someone who can use digital AND traditional.

No crits this time, just keep up the good work!

paperhead: Thanks paper I'll be getting back to inks in the future I agree about the leg being a bit short on that last one. Compared to the reference it looks correct but the lighting throughs it off a bit. I guess I could have lengthened it to make up for that.

Verehin: Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!

Naidy: Thanks! I just got into pastels after starting school in TAD. We do all our figure drawing with them and I have to say it is one of my favorite mediums now. I'll keep em coming.

Here is an update on some school work. First one is color charts done in oil using Rembrandt's color palette ( venetian red, yellow ochre, burnt siena, black and white) Its a bit time consuming but excellent for understanding color percentages. The second image is my reworked TAD poster. I'll change the dates if it used for printing to promote the Fall semester instead. Crits always welcome

really nice updates and focus, i would just propose you to play more with hard and soft edges in the paintings, besides that you're going on really good direction!

John: Thanks man, I agree about hard and soft edges. I think they the lack a bit in my digital work but are prevalent in my traditional pieces. I'll keep it in mind.

Here is another self portrait in progress. We are going to be using a grisaille technique to add light washes of color.

Sup Josh, Nice to see you posting work. I think your most recent portrait is pretty cool but the neck doesn't read. I don't see any description of the form. The neck reminds me of those worms from beetlejuice. You know at the end, the sand worms.

Other than that, keep up the good work. Will I see you in January?

Thanks for stopping by Evan. I've been trying to stay busy Thats a great crit on the neck. I didn't really notice it until you pointed it out. More planar study for me . I still have to purchase tickets and make sure I can afford the trip so I'll see within the next few days.

rockin it man. awesome stuff and improvment

theres a pretty harsh edge in the forehead of the most recent portrait, where the skin meets the hair. even if it seems that harsh in reality, maybe try softening it just a touch to bring the focus into the eyes and face.

    anyway, keep it up!

cgaddict: Thanks man! Progress is the name of the game

badass: Thanks for stopping by my sb. I kind of like the hard edge against the hair there. I can see how softening it would push the focus more on the eyes. I'll try it out and see. Thanks for the crit and props

Here are some updates on previous illustrations and some new ones. The first one is a 2D design representing "Tension". I've really gotten into blind contour drawings lately. All the sketchbook drawings are about 90% blind contour to get the silhouette then I go back in with color or value sometimes with marker, watercolor pencil, pen and caran d'ache. I really love the results I'm getting with them.

Cool line works in your latest sketches!
I also like the planets design a lot, that's a good idea... I think you should try to put them in a sort of "tridimensional" scene to better show the different sizes.

Nice stuff man! I think the tad poster could benefit from a bit more direct light and some more fall off from the light source, cool lights warm shadows? Keep it up dude! Blind contours are looking hawt! are you going to the workshop in ATX?

insanelight: Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook Yea I enjoyed the planet designs. I'll eventually make a 3d solar system image.

Metal Fingers: Thanks man! I think the crit on the poster is a good one. I'll go back into it and work on the temperature and light. I should be able to attend the workshop in ATX. Getting $ together.

Here are some more studies. First 2 pages are ball point pen, the rest are graphite and some digital touch-ups. The characters are a mix of studies and working from imagination. The last two are preliminary sketches for a client's portrait.
