Outrageous Examples of Internet Stupidity... Ten Pages Worth

I'm sure I'll be called anti-cultural(even though I've probably been to more countries than those who will accuse me of it), and likely accused of racism( a blatant contradiction to by libertarian humanist foundation, as well as my interracial marriage), for posting this. However; this is getting out of hand.

Though heavy handed at times, I have to say that at least someone is saying something about this. Of course the media is too busy gushing over political sensibilities, and chastising people who aren't terrorists*excuse me* "underdogs, to take notice. Or perhaps it's being blatantly ignored, as usual.

This is completely ridiculous, and eviscerates some of the very values that have set free countries apart from oppressive regimes. Of course this isn't the only thing free nations and people(s) face, but a shining example of ignorance and sympathy. Perhaps for a second I pondered that people might be learning that you can't nanny the crap out of everything. Seriously; when did we establish freedom from danger or being offended? And if that's the case, we all might as well live inside of our own boxes constantly. After all; It's too dangerous to walk outside. We might get a sunburn, or be offended because someone disagrees with us. Then again, we can't do that because someone else will come up with a better way of doing things. People don't know how to take care of themselves.

A new pet formula to keep people safe and happy, vice allowing people to live their lives to their own personal preference so long as it doesn't inflict harm, or derange the liberties of, another. Which is what the law is supposed to do - protect the rights and lives of the people, not destroy and delegate.

    COMEDY
Just so that you laugh before you're offended.(seeing as our freedoms don't matter, but Islam's does).

When did the concept of 'Liberal' change from "do whatever the fuck YOU want, just leave me out of it" to "whaa whaa, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings." ?!

Over time. Liberal and Conservative are both taken into and out of context back and forth. I used to feel that liberalism was simply freedom, but recently, the last few decades, people calling themselves such seem to not be liberal at all(at least when compared to the definition), they're simply pushing their views on others liberally. Everyone seems to want to force their own perspective down the throats of others.

Under the guise of making everyone feel good and equal, people are chaining one another down.

In the last decade +, conservatism has been taken as being fascistic and painted to be something similar to Hitler's regime. When Conservative simply means someone who conserves a standard, or resources, etc. So, like most everyone else; I'm going to route of tagging things as I see them.

Well, each of those examples should be looked at individually. While I don't agree with the statements made by the Dutch politician I think that his right to free speech is more important than what he said turning this into a court case is just silly on those grounds.

I think that the woman should be allowed to train with her headscarf on, unless it is a safety issue.

As for the Muslim only district in Amsterdam, I can understand the desire for it, but I think that trying to make it a matter of legality is kind of silly. A group like that getting their own area of town is as simple as 1. find an affordable area that nobody cares about. 2. Create a community there. Its been done all over the place in LA; Glendale is Armenian, San Gabriel is mostly Chinese, etc etc. You don't make a rule saying nobody else can live there, instead you just permeate the place with your culture and for the most part everyone else finds a place where the store signs are in a language they can understand. Heck, with A Muslim neighborhood if they were to build a Mosque and make the speakers extra loud for morning prayers you'd easily have a Muslim only section. Well, maybe a few deaf people would stay... or I might because I'd find the culture fascinating enough to not care about being woken up at dawn... but it would still be mostly Muslem, and whats left would be sparse enough to not be a big deal. As far as I can tell they want a place where they can practice their culture without their kids being seen as weird for wearing funny hats. In a neighborhood that's mostly Muslim it shouldn't matter as the not Muslim kids would stand out more than the Muslims.

I'm a liberal, Ghost', and have been for nearly 50 years, and nothing you said above applies to me. Not...one...motherfucking...word. You wanna explain why in a few concise paras or do you want me to leave so you continue with your definition of what I represent and am...since you seem to be better at being in my skin than I am...

If, on the other hand, you think it's time to push some agenda you feel is being ignored or vilified, just say so. I'll listen...but you better be damn good at explaining...

Ilaekae, you vilify Conservatism. Many others do also. You never do play victim well.
In some of our own conversations, I myself have sided with the more liberal types and perspectives.

So, since I offended you, I'll apologize. Maybe after that you can get some legislation passed so I won't do it again. I'm sure that's not your character though. I think you should be angrier though at the people who call themselves liberals and are passing these very agendas. Perhaps their conservatives in disguise? Perhaps the independent political parties in our country, ones that tend to take the stance of maximum liberties and call themselves conservatives are just liberals in the closet.

The upcoming Fairness Doctrine; Does it sound very fair when you read it? If you have, that is. Maybe those politicians that call themselves liberals are just conservatives trying to smear the good name of liberal social practices. You know; Like calling people biggots or rednecks because they disagree with the peddler's positions. Or legislating health regulations because those middle class morons don't know how to feed themselves properly. Maybe those senators that tried banning video games to protect the world from violence.

Like you, I used to consider myself a liberal. But more and more it just seems like so called liberals aren't so "liberal" at all. Perhaps that's this generations liberals. If it makes you feel better, the first thing that comes to mind when I hear conservative is a bible-thumping christian walking down the streets with a box of recorded Sean Hannity episodes. At same time, I imagine a liberal walking door to door grabbing peoples' guns and asking for tax money so they can put their kids through college.

Nice sources, right-wing conservative publications, mostly.

Though you should consider that a lot of times, these claims are vastly overblown in proportion for the sake of xenophobic hysteria.

Look, liberal or conservative are really rather silly labels that probably should not have even been brought up as they barely apply to the subject. But seeing as we've gone there; liberalism basically pushes for experimentation and new ideas while conservatism is basically the idea that the ideas we already have are good enough and we don't need to rock the boat. For example, in 1915 in America staying out of foreign conflicts was the conservative idea, while jumping in to WWI was liberal. Since then getting involved in and even stirring up foreign conflicts has become common policy/old hat and is now conservative, while restraint and peace has become liberal, or at least is labeled as such.

The labels only apply to whatever that current scenario is for the culture being viewed. For example in Russia communism is considered conservative and most of its supporters are old folks, while in the US where communism never took hold it is a name often (mis)used for liberal ideals.

That said nobody is truly 100% liberal or 100% conservative. They just tend to support ideas that are commonly ascribed to either label. This is why every time that anyone tries to define the ideas you'll have someone who goes, "But I'm such and such and that doesn't sound like me at all!" In my opinion the fact we are using such labels on ourselves at all is damaging to our society in that it causes people to make decisions not based on what they think is a good idea but instead to base what they think is a good idea on what is presented to them as "their side." This causes greater division and both sides go out of control and become somewhat extreme and forceful with their ideas, resulting in radicalism (extreme liberalism) or reactionary (extreme conservatism), both of which are dangerous. But that's just my thoughts on the matter.

People exaggerate issues from different perspectives. But it's not like this isn't spreading. If some minute case occurred and the right-wing blogosphere exploded in furry, your argument would be more valid. This is a growing trend though.

We have a world meeting on our doorstep where national representatives will listen as this same case is made to the international community.

Whether or not Pat Condell is an idiot is something I would consider of mild consideration in the midst of this.
For consideration; When I lived in the States, I knew several Muslims that I am sure are offended by this as well. They fled their natural countries to escape this kind of oppression.

Instead of taking the road a head, we simply took a sharp left.

Mr. Wilders is not being tried for expressing his opinion on Islam. That headline of the independent is completely false.
He is being tried for spreading hatred towards Muslims. A feat punishable by law. Throughout history that has caused unbelievable atrocities to take place.

Imo it's about time he got tried.

What alternate reality media are you talking about? I read CNN and MSNBC and I don't think I've ever read an article by either saying that "Terrorism is good. Anyone who disagrees hates America."

I'm not a huge fan of Islamic fundamentalism, but Christian fundamentalism as extolled by people like Pat Robertson or the late Jerry Falwell is almost as bad.

I'm pretty liberal myself and I think that the Fairness Doctrine is not a very good idea.

Calling people rednecks or bigots just because they disagree with your political opinion is bad sport for anyone, no matter what side of the political spectrum they're on. I tend not to do it unless they actually say anything really bigoted, like AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuality.

This is why I have been an anarchist for years. I have given up on civilization as a whole and the majority of the human race. I do my own thing and I say what is on my mind and if it offends people, that is there problem; I grew up in a sticks and stones world and ventured out into it and saw how bad a lot of people have it that aren't in the US. I am tired of victims, people with agendas, people forcing me to obey their religion's particulars and jackass lawmakers who should represent their constituents as a whole and work for the greater good. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt when they cross my path, regardless of where they are from or what they look like until they give me a reason to lash out and I think that this is a damned fine policy to follow.

It said he tried to ban the Qur'an... that's pretty dumb. But I don't know where all this "racial hatred" stuff is coming from. From what I saw he only takes issue with a religion, not an ethnic group. Criticising a religion shouldn't be a criminal offense, it is in fact to the only way to protect other religions and religious freedom. Am I missing something, is there any reason to assume that this guy is a racist?

Warning: This post will be scary to those who are uncomfortable with information that clashes with their ideologies. My apologies in advance.

Fear (and the resulting hate) is the easiest way of controling others isn`t it ?
The easiest way to control thought is to threaten a lawsuit. Saudi Arabia is pouring money into the pockets of lawyers all over the western world. Nice work if you can get it. That black gold can work wonders politically!

Another good way is to slit somebody's throat, to show you mean business, and then threaten to slit more throats. People tend to take that seriously too. That's really the best form of fearmongering... insane, rabid violence... People tend to want nothing to do with it. Heart-on-the-sleeve types will forgive it, however, which is nice of them.

Endowing whole departments in ivy league schools is another way of controlling what is said about your country and religion.

Restricting news agencies from covering you is also another excellent way to control information, and thus control thought, and thus control action.

Another great way to get elected is to tell people what they want to hear. That nothing is happening. Nothing needs to be done. Sit down, sit down, sit down you're rocking the boat. Yes.... Just sit back and relax, drink your tea and be secure in your hatred of the messenger. Oh, yes, a really good way of mind control is to demonize that messenger. Because if it weren't for him, everything would be just A-OK.

(A good example of the result of all this is Zaknafain's post below. Stuttgart's fine, so everything is fine. Sharia law? Whateves. Protocols are the same thing anyhow, its all fake conspiracy mongering! If it bothers me, it must be rhetoric or propaganda designed to manipulate me. A totally shielded mind.)

Pat Condell is the new George Carlin. Except with more courage.

I think GV is using the phrase "liberal fascist" somewhat too liberally in this thread. I think he is referring to what Pat Condell is talking about in his video on his website.

So aside from the liberal stereotyping, this is an issue. The western world is being bent over for Islam. If they don't like our countries they can leave. Every few months something local comes up in the paper just like these stories. When did we loose our rights? An enclave? its called going back to an Islamic country. When in Rome do as the Romans. I really think these things are less about our offense of these people and more to do with anti western attitude which escapes persecution. If its continued to be ignored the bilateral hatred will only grow. Islam will get away with screwing up our society (which is the thing that these cases shit on) and thus continue. While people who happen to like our society the way it is will continue to become more and more xenophobic. Also I see myself as liberal.

When did we loose the right to a society? When will courts say, no your pushing on our society not trying to make a home. I feel like Islam is persecuting my society and my government is helping them. Where is the line, some islamists think we all need to die. I think there is a continuum to that point in their culture. So where does our allowance for them stop? Are we to let them stone women here too? Whats the difference between an enclave for them and giving them the right to murder by stoning.

This is a movement in our society that is trying to destroy it. Are we really going to ignore it? If they have enclave doesn't that mean there are going to be stonings?

All my question are just to say this is crap and it will end far worse then this thread.

If the guy was talking about the torah, the "holy" bible, vedas or pali canon or something else, would the court cases be as outrageous?

I don't hold any of those or anything to be above reproach so no it wouldn't be less outrageous. Also for me its a matter of protecting the society you are in and can raise your children in. With the acts of terrorism going in in the name of Islam we should take a good look at it.

I dont agree with "liberal facism" being the case. I do think that Islamic agendas are encroaching on western society in an unacceptable way. Also the specific case above may be complete garbage an I reserve the right to say so. The issue I have is the wide spread movement of institution of Islamic ideals into our laws.

    Sorry if I cut in.

In the last decade +, conservatism has been taken as being fascistic and painted to be something similar to Hitler's regime. When Conservative simply means someone who conserves a standard, or resources, etc. So, like most everyone else; I'm going to route of tagging things as I see them.
GhostVal. It seems like you're criticizing people for having an old, simplified concept of liberalism, while simultaneously hiding behind an old, simplified concept of conservatism.

Honestly I used to think I was a liberal, back when I thought that meant a government should take care of the well being, and provide for the advancement of it's citizens, not just the advancement and well being of giant corporations, and wealthy donors. However there appears to have been a contrast shift and now there's no grey area. If you're liberal you're a "heart on the sleeve" or "bleeding heart" or whatever other stupid, opinion manipulating phrase, coddling special interests and, as Kev so wonderfully put it, willing to forgive throat slitting by anti-western, practically anti-civilization extremists. I dunno, it seems like all the terminology for political affiliations has been co-opted by PR people into a kind of Newspeak like thing. For instance the hatred and ire that the term "bleeding heart" arises in the conservative base....a phrase that originally just meant you were extremely compassionate. It's now been demonized and turned into almost a trigger word for conservative anger. I think that the news watching population has been manipulated by both sides to further what ultimately ends up being personal goals for congressman/woman and their corporate sponsors. I've heard teenagers (the brother of a friend of mine) use the term "liberal" to describe people who were lazy...with no concept of what Liberalism as a political philosophy is. If this isn't a controlled mind, I don't know what is. Language is a powerful tool and I think in large part political terminology has simply been turned into a tool for pundits to incite anger at whomever finds themselves in their sights, and to artificially create polarization and conflict where there should be dialog.

This is from James Quinn's essay "Orwell's 2009 - Big Brother is Watching" That illustrates what I'm talking about. I trimmed a few paragraphs to make it a little shorter, but it's still kinda long...if you don't feel like reading it...move on.

    Language as Thought Control

“In our age there is no such thing as 'keeping out of politics.' All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia.”

Shock and Awe – This was the Don Rumsfeld marketing phrase for the initial stage of the Iraq Invasion. The U.S. military launched 1,700 air attacks, including 504 cruise missiles on March 21, 2003. The U.S. military insisted that the strikes were surgical and we did everything to avoid civilian casualties. Reports of casualties ranged from 3,000 to 6,000. We inflicted devastation on par with 9/11 on innocent Muslim citizens. This was U.S. terrorism disguised as self defense. The U.S. military refers to this as collateral damage.

USA Patriot Act - Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001. It is beyond comprehension that people in our government spend their time creating acronyms that disguise the fact that they are taking away civil liberties. These people must work in the Ministry of Truth, the masters of propaganda. The definition of Patriot according to Webster’s is, one who loves his or her country and supports its authority and interests. By naming it the Patriot Act, anyone that voiced dissent, didn’t love their country and was cast as a traitor. This act was rammed through Congress on October 26, 2001, only forty-five days after the 9/11 attack. Senators and Congressmen did not even read the law before passing it. The Party now has legal authority without a court order to wiretap your phone, read your emails, listen to cell phone conversations, search your mail, search your financial records, search your medical records, detain anyone who they suspect may commit terrorism, and indefinitely detain you based on secret evidence.

Community Reinvestment Act – This should be named the U.S. Taxpayer Gets Screwed Act. This law forced banks to make mortgage loans to poor people who should have been renting. This is another Democratic Party welfare state boondoggle. Bob McTeer, president of the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank from 1991 to 2004, described the pressure on banks:

“There was a lot of pressure from Congress and generally everywhere to make homeownership affordable for poor and low-income people. Some mortgages were made that would not have ordinarily been made. When a bank made a decision to purchase mortgaged-backed securities, they would somehow determine if some of them were in zip codes covered by the CRA, and therefore they could get CRA credit.”

The result was subprime losses in the billions being foisted onto the backs of American taxpayers who made their mortgage payments. People who received these loans don’t pay taxes.

Death Tax – A deliberate and carefully crafted word designed by the Republican Party in order to gain support for repealing the estate tax. Repealing the estate tax had no support among the American public. Manipulating the name of the tax generated support for repeal.

Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 – This brilliant piece of legislation signed in July 2008 was designed to instill confidence in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and keep subprime borrowers in their homes. It didn’t help housing or the economy recover. It just poured more money down a rat hole. Fannie & Freddie collapsed under the weight of their incompetence and billions of losses in September 2008. They continue to make bad loans to undeserving borrowers, but now the losses flow directly to you and I, the American taxpayer.

Government Accountability – If this isn’t the biggest oxymoron in history, I don’t know what is. The Party has a tremendous interest in making sure that no one knows where our tax dollars are spent and whether they were spent wisely. A company has a bottom line and can calculate a return on the investments they make. No one can calculate a return on anything Government does. If every government project was listed on-line and citizens could see what was spent and for what purpose, the bureaucracy would come crashing down. Therefore, The Party will never allow light to be shone upon their deeds.

Department of Homeland Security - Its stated goal is to prepare for, prevent, and respond to domestic emergencies, particularly terrorism. This department most resembles Orwell’s Ministry of Love, the agency responsible for the identification, monitoring, arrest and torture of dissidents, real or imagined. We aren’t too far off from being monitored by telescreens. This department was created after 9/11. Its biggest claim to fame is the response to Hurricane Katrina, when 1,836 Americans died. Mismanagement, incompetence, lack of preparation, and slow response were the traits best exhibited by this agency that spends $50 billion per year and employs 208,000 bureaucrats. The department was blamed for up to $2 billion of waste and fraud after audits by the GAO revealed widespread misuse of government credit cards by DHS employees, with purchases including beer brewing kits, $70,000 of plastic dog booties that were later deemed unusable, boats purchased at double the retail price (many of which later could not be found), and iPods ostensibly for use in "data storage". It is pure luck that we have not experienced another terrorist attack. It is not due to the actions of this agency.

Troubled Asset Relief Program – This is also known as TARP or the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. It’s lucky they put a date at the end, so we can have another in 2009 and another in 2010. A better name would be WARP - Worthless Asset Reprieve Program. This catchy little acronym described assets as if they had a bad day at the office. I’m troubled by the bullshit that keeps being rammed down my throat by politicians and bankers. Assets aren’t troubled. The “assets” on the books of the biggest banks in the world are worthless. They are fictitious pieces of paper backed by nothing. This $700 billion bad banker bailout was supposed to buy these assets from the banks and allow the banks to lend. Henry Paulson lied to Congress and used the first $350 billion to buy preferred stock in the banks. It has been a miserable failure. The second $350 billion will be thrown at these same banks and nothing will happen. No one knows how the money is being spent and Bank of America and Citicorp are on the brink again. The U.S. banking system is insolvent and is being propped up by the American taxpayer.

Stable Prices – It seems the politicians running The Party these days like to pick and choose what they want from John Maynard Keynes. They prefer the goodies of increased government spending and ignore the other advice:

“The best way to destroy the capitalist system is to debauch the currency. By a continuing process of inflation, governments can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens.”

One of the key mandates of the Federal Reserve is price stability. This is a lie. The facts are that the Federal Reserve purposefully generates unending inflation which slowly lowers the standard of living of every American. The US dollar has lost 95% of its purchasing power since 1913 when the Federal Reserve was created by a Congress in the back pockets of bankers.

Foreclosure Mitigation – Barney Frank is demanding that the 2nd $350 billion of TARP funds be used for this purpose. It is a noble goal to reduce foreclosures. I’m sure Mr. Frank is a noble man. What this really means is that he would like to take your tax dollars and give them to people who bought houses with mortgages they could not afford. Rather than being properly kicked out of the house, you will make their mortgage payment for them, along with your own monthly mortgage payment. That is what mitigation means.

Quantitative Easing – This is a luminous term that 98% of Americans don’t understand. It sounds so soothing. When Ben Bernanke uses the term in his speeches you can imagine blue birds singing on his shoulder. What it means is that the Federal Reserve will print as many dollars as it takes to generate inflation so that the country’s enormous debt burden can be inflated away. Instead of one helicopter, picture thousands of B-52s dropping dollars over NYC. Japan tried the same thing in the 1990s with absolutely no success. Ben’s motto is, when you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do.

Economic Recovery Program – This is Barrack Obama’s first contribution to Newspeak. His shrewd economic team didn’t like the sound of stimulus program. It sounded too much like Bush’s rebate checks, which didn’t work. Of course, one of the key elements of this plan is a $500 rebate per person. The term investment is used quite often in this plan. Investment in infrastructure, education, green initiatives, and energy are the backbone of the plan. Ask yourself why we have 156,000 structurally deficient bridges, crumbling water pipes, antiquated power grid, urban decay, and dangerous schools. It is because we have relied on the Government to be responsible for these things with taxes we have already paid. Now we are supposed to support a program with future tax dollars to do what Government should have done in the first place. When you are stuck in a traffic jam next year and see six union construction workers standing on the side of the road all making $50 an hour watching one guy with a jack hammer working, know that your tax dollars have been spent wisely.

He is being tried for spreading hatred towards Muslims. A feat punishable by law. Throughout history that has caused unbelievable atrocities to take place.

Imo it's about time he got tried.

Yes they would. Here in America the guy who tried to take the words "under God" out of our pledge of allegiance did not face criminal charges. Nor has any of the people trying to force us to take "in God we trust" off of our currency or trying to get school libraries to stop carrying copies of the Bible or trying to get cities to remove religious symbols from city monuments.

Different people have different oppinions about how things should be run, just because we do not agree with their oppinion does not mean they should be charged in a court of law for it. As for this Dutch politician, I don't care if he is "spreading hate," I still believe that he has a right to free speech, and free speech would be rather pointless if you were not allowed to sway people with your words.

Once again, I don't agree with the guy, but I support his right to push whatever political idiology he has, regardless of how hatefull, racist, whatever. Anyways, he can't hold that much power, otherwise not enough people would be pissed off at him to demand this type of court hearing. If he were truly the next Hitler we'd have Dutch CA members on here talking about how awesome he is and how he saved their country.

Some of the links you posted are from very unrealiable sources. Also dividing ideology into "liberal" and "conservative" as well as your use of the word "fascism / fascist" (if anything at all "fascistoid" would be the right word) shows that you should read up these things more thoroughly before writing about them.

Here we see the next phase of the stealth jihad: first Muslims push for special accommodation of Islamic law, even when it is at variance with the law of the country they are in. Then there often follow demands that non-Muslims also conform to Islamic sensibilities.
If you think this is scary, wait until you read the protocols of the elders of zion.

they are all plotting against us! Its a fucking conspiracy!

WE ARE DOOOOMED! FUCKING DOOOOOMED! DOOOOOMED!

Don't you have anything else to do? Seriously, I can think of a 100 things this instant more important than another mosque in my city or what kind of stupid islamic laws muslims have to follow (its their own fault, i think we can agree on that).

By the way, kev ferraras rhetorics are really scary sometimes...

Personally, I follow this quote, from Bogart's POV

    Major Heinrich Strasser (Conrad Veidt)

    What is your nationality?

    Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart)

    I'm a drunkard.

    Captain Louis Renault (Claude Rains)

That makes Rick a citizen of the world.

"Everything must serve the idea. The means used to convey the idea should be the simplest and clear. Just what is required. No extra images. To me this is a universal principle of art. Saying as much as possible with a minimum of means."
