Question Clarification on Posting Copyright Material

After noticing a thread being closed, I just wanted to know what is considered acceptable for posting on CA?

For example, I frequently notice people links to Loomis and since it's out of print/hard to find I can understand the educational purpose. However, it's still under copyright...so would posting links to find it be unacceptable, or saying "find it on X site" or would it have to be more vague like "Do a search" or just no mention at all?

In one case with Bargue, the book to get quality plates is in prints is still in print and helps support the museum.

Then you have books that are only available or out of print in a different country, so I know Berne still plays a role but for example...Gottfried Bammes has German books that are hard to find.

I'm not even going to debate what should and shouldn't be acceptable to post to CA, common sense dictates don't post warez of software when companies are here, or torrents of full books/rapidshare links of books readily available on the market. I'd say the same of full videos too, like youtube is the king of copyright material being posted (but they're clips unless someone upload entire thing in parts).

I'd just like to know if the admins have a response for clarification since it seems to waver from time to time.

    Thanks

    Hi Arshes Nei,

Different mods might handle things slightly differently, but in general posting links to full books still in copyright is not acceptable.

However with something as unavailable and educationally valuable as the Loomis books, we tend to look the other way.
