Been doing some self-portraits lately, and I thought I might as well make it a daily practice. So yeah here I go!

mc2mc2: try doing shorter ones? like 10~15 min? I think it's just a matter of developing the habit...I know you can paint pretty quick so I reckon you could do it

One for today...sorry I don't think I put enough effort into this one...

well...looking back at the previous SP's I think I really need to work on the likeness as well....they all look like different people

today is especially bad...the proportion isn't too good, im sure perspective is off and likeness as mentioned is totally shit...still trying to work out colour as always but I think I got too lazy eventually and didn't mix enough colours to provide variation of hues...

I'm not sure whether to say spend more time on these, or spend less time and do more of them. Maybe just lots of blind contours and gestures of yourself would capture the likeness.

When you get a good one, work on it until you've had enough. Then put it down, and come back to it a week later. That time away from it will allow you to come back with an objective point of view, and you may know what to do differently.

oh max stop speaking in absolutes its just a suggestion

Max Challie: thanks for the comments and advice max. I'm not sure blind contours or gestures would help with likeness though, lines and observation probably yeah but I probably need to focus more on comparing and getting the proportions and such down to fix likeness issues.

As for the self portraits...I'm really treating this as a training regime thing, a chance to get myself to draw something per day at least, mess around with different styles, experiment with colours etc. will try to put what I learn from these into actual finished pieces. So yeah...I don't think I'll be going back and reworking these anytime soon...

Not my greatest effort (kinda nice to see I can crank out one quick though!)

Wow, Allan. Charging forward I see! And such varied techniques! I'm digging that... Really diggin that. Makes me think I could use some variety in my SB. Thanks for the push! Keep it going! In regards to what you were saying about looking like other people...you just gotta take the time one day to really observe. Do your portrait and keep flipping the canvas, and quickly flick your eyes between your drawing and your mirror.
    Keep it going!

sketcheth: thanks for the advice man, I get too lazy to flip and check most of the time haha...must break the bad habit..

er...if you have noticed...no i didn't suddenly do 3 extra selfportraits...its just the naming of my files is confusing me so i added the first 3 of my daily portraits that i didn't post in this thread...did one today though:

concentrated on edges a bit more this time...what do you guys think?

Hey dude, your values are looking good! Some of the sketchies look rushed (i have that terrible problem). Take a little more time to complete them ya? Keep on going, you'll get better fast!

i'd agree with virus on that one... but its still well done .... you have a good sense of form and construction , the colored piece in #2 is impressive, and its cool to see you pumping out all these styles and and different media, crit would be is i have a problem with this too, exploring more facial expressions... keep it up man, they're looking good ...
