Hi everyone,

After knowing and visiting the website and forum for ages
I felt it was finally time to register too, so this is my sketchbook.
As so many others here, I am not a native speaker(writer in that case) so please forgive me bad terms and weird mistakes.

I am looking forwards for your critiques and judgements on my work.



I am starting with a recent fun-thing, which started out as a droodle I did in some lesson at University - my scanner at home isn't really the best one :-/

I started working out my "weird eye guy" in PS
and decided he better get agrasshopper as a friend so I made a skecth of that too...

I only had house crickets as reference at the time, so the grasshopper is not as grasshopper-ish, butthe anatomy of the two animals is quite alike and as I am not aiming for anything super realistic....

I know my guy still seems a bit flat, I always do not dare to give more shadows...guess I will try what I can do about it the next days

i think more studies of faces from life/photos will help.
try to observe as much as you can and keep drawing a lot

thank you both, yes the drawing a lot thing is why i made my account finally, I need to force myself to practise a bit more often.
I always loved drawing and I used to be good, but I stoped practising the last years and well you can tell and it really sucks-- so I need some asskicks :-)

I had bad migraine at the weekend, which stoped me from my aim to do something everyday, but I did a speedy landscape yesterday, when it was a bit better, to have done anything and it was very relaxing. I saw a picture on the net and wanted to capture a similar atmosphere, lost the link after closing the browser :-(

For today I am planning to go outside and do some tree sketches, as I need a reason to leave the house and because I have to build a tree for a study project, hope to be uploading it later.

Back again! I'm loving the landscape, and the tree drawing project sounds interesting, be sure to draw them at different times of day too, trees are really interesting things to shade.

Nice start to your sketchbook. I really like the details of the grass you did in that landscape. It does look very peaceful. I look forward to how your trees turn out.

Hey there! I like that you picked up a sketchbook, that's very brave! If it comes to critique, I'd probably say you need to draw more In any case, you have to practice every day and focus on your weak points, then you'll get better. Tenacity and discipline is what's important.

Saying that, I think you need to draw more from life, learn how to observe and try to understand the mechanisms behind what you see. That will give you an arsenal to work from the mind and produce breathtaking designs. Even if drawing is not your main focus, being able to observe and visualize things will help you flesh out more intricate and mature projects.

But most important of all, have fun!

Hi, you should do exercises that teach the fundamentals of drawing/painting/picture making. Not knowing them when your trying to get better can be frustrating. When Im drawing or painting and my goal for that session is to improve, I always set rules for myself. For example, "in this painting Im going to concentrate on tonal values, and im going to work start to finish in a smart way so I dont take forever to finish it"
Hope this helps, tell me if Ive completely missed the plot! haha
