Kevin--
You keep posting great work--good job.
I like all of it, but I find the painting of the bald guy (1st image in #539) particularly gorgeous: your marks, the sense of light, and the overall keen observation and atmosphere.
Inspiring!
cheers,
Nick

amazing work
Your comments actually have helped, and i appreciate you taking the time to answer my question, I'll consider that for next class.
and watch that eye line, every once in a while your eyes aren't aligned properly, just an observation, i may be wrong though ;d
fantastic update; those paintings are too good!!![]()
pure genious! loving this sketchbook, and all of it in it!
Hey Kevin this is a lovely update I really like the soft sort of summery colours in the paintings, especially the lady with the head scarf, where you've echoed some of the head scarf colours in the background. I also appreciate all these head drawings and I think I could learn a thing or two from them. The page of heads at different angles is really great to see. It's always a treat for me when you update.![]()
without going too far into bullshit, what i admire most is how its like all your training and effort have given you a sort of fractal level of control; you handle the macro scale composition stuff and the close detail, and the mid size detail clusters like the face, hand or pubis all in a supremely intelligent way. like you take the subconscious control that hard work and practice gives you, and you harness it to a bright unfettered way of thinking.. the mixture of planned stuff and spur of the moment innovation is really brilliant, its a real pleasure to sit down and enjoy it and then study it..
your skill is so much greaer than mine i hate to offer crit. i guess all i would say is, on average the hands and feet are reduced to elegant flicks and suggestions.
theyre very beautiful but maybe having mastered that style, but id love to see what somenoe like you could do if you really unleashed on them in the way you do on the incredibly subtle surfacing on say a womans hip.
(i literally stared at this girls bum for about 15 minutes.

dope fiend - thanks - um - yeah - do you draw from life ? there is /are at least a few things that get less attention - but mostly I get things like the perspective of head shapes correct. Mostly. And then there are other times when I don't. Drawing from real, moving humans - give it a try - you'll see - it ain't easy! period. But once you start to understand it a bit, working from photos can be just about.. zzzzz.. that is only one opinion of course.
Marian - thank you - I did not get enough "form" in that woman's painting - or enough done overall but will keep working on the big things - I get hung up on the head - I love trying to sort them out - but sometimes I over-work a part and under-work too much else. All those little heads on the sheet are from life and about 2 or 3 minutes each - flying!
Velocity Kendall - Thank you for the kind and thoughtful (and hopefully BS free !- hah!) note! I am humbled to read it. A fair crit on the hands - I love doing them but I run out of time and with figure studies I try to get the head and bodies as sorted as possible but I will think on that for this coming week's studies! I am working hard to think more about the design of the forms than copying what I see.. while retaining a likeness. It doesn't always succeed ( on either count) but I like the idea of working toward that. Funny you mention fractals, as I think about that in the nature of things often!
brodywms - thank you
Nick - thank you - I like that one too - it looks way cooler in person ( doesn't everyone say that ?)
vivi - cheers!
Dana and Eekolite- thank you and thank you for writing!
Thank you Odayga too!!
Thank you everyone and I apologize if I missed you - off to draw and paint now! and watch the Oscars!

Update more yo, love your work![]()
Thanks for the awesome new lines!
all from the live model, unless it's not. but all of these - yes.
Thank you everyone for your notes ! Try to keep this dawg updated!
Sorry for the crazy blue smock on the male model. I did not get to that to model the folds and yes I have some crazy colors in my box for just such occasions!
The head w/no eyes, nose or mouth is a "Poster Study" - I learned this technique from Tony Ryder - it is used to "paint the light" w/o regard for the drawing. They are small and a great prep/study for a longer work. This was demo for a fellow student who wanted to do one at AAU at a workshop. It was fun but we were flying ( about 2.5 hours) - I usually need about 3-4 hours to complete one.
some various head studies and a figure I did today at the bottom in about 40 minutes or so..

wow. well i definitely feel like an asshole for saying anything i did.
i'll respond again when this update has settled in...so much subtly to detail even if though you say you were rushed, unreal control of both mediums..!]
there's such a flow to your drawings, its almost as if your hand never leaves the page..makes me want to order Tony's book..because you continue to improve..

Those head studies, they're so....solid.
Wish I could articulate that better, but I like them.
Your head studies are so great ! Each time you post new studies it make me wont to work harder.
To be or not to be, this is the question !
Help me drawing the head

PS: Sorry for my bad English
Hey Kevin thanks for the lovely update. That 'poster study' is really interesting. I had read about it somewhere so it's great to see this wonderful example. Really like the drawing of the lady in the posh frock, and that crazy blue smock is actually very appealing. Hope all goes well with you and as always I am left wanting more.![]()

god man your stuff is so inspiring i havent had much time to get on this site lately but whenever i do i always check out your sb or fine art sb to see what new stuff you have up keep up the awsome work i just started oil painting (as in last month) and it gives me a whole new appreciation for the pure ability to draw and decide what to include in a drawing and leave out and have it still be accurate and succsefully depict what your trying to convey and i think alot of your drawings do this and i was wondering what your thought proccess is when you do this ?
