Some new works - all from live models.. painting at top is about 25 hours on gesso panel, sanded and re-gesso'd a few times to lose all the tooth.. some graphite studies and a few charcoal figure 2-10min gestures from last few days..

Awesome works u have done! I have always been a fan of ur graphite drawings and your latest few have risen the height even further. My favourite is the old man with the hat. One of my final oil paintings for this 9 moths at Tony Ryder's school. about 40 hours I'm guessing. 12" x 10" on linen. Graphite drawing are all on 14 x 10 Canson Recycled bristol (and are mostly small-ish - 4-5" heads.. final skulls are a newborn skull and a 3-4 year old - (not from life!) in ball point pen - from photo refs..

A few final small (5" x 8") head studies at school and some drawings in graphite ( about 1-2 hours for those).. A few gesture figures from Tuesday night.. I am rusty but want to get back to more of that work.. gotta think about the design of the shapes more!

Finally a digital portrait done quickly - the only thing here form a photo ref.. the rest all from life!

Just wondering how you measure the accuracy of placing the parts and gettin' the right proportion in such a short time, if you know what i mean, like i know you must have done millions of sketches but any tip on this What should be the focus in start the lights making the shape or the shape of part, When I draw I go for bigger shapes but get the proportion: exaggerated and looks cartoon y, any suggestion to over come this drawback.

Oh what a a nice improvement you achieved- not that the beginnings were less stellar. When I see people this commited and beyond my curent level, I can never help but feel sad and hopeful at the same time.
Sad because I will have a long way to go to be able to produce that, and hopeful because such work show me what one can achieve with hard work.
I am about to start art-college as well pretty soon......and damn it---I´ll admit- I´m nervous.

Could you tell me a bit of how your lessons went over there? Like....hmm...did the teachers give you certain "homework"? Was there a certain amount of pictures you had to produce per week, month?
Did you have to know about the procedure of oilpaintings before you entered?
I will know soon enough myself-----but I cannot wait!

(One more question.....now that your education is almost over, or is already- what are your plans? Do you want to furhter invest in your style, or stray elsewehere? What about the fear of not being abel to live by art alone?........hope this isn´t too personal)

Sony - I have been drawing for 3 years - particularly from life - the figure. I am probably 2 thousand drawings in or so.. I really think that direction you are in is the right one ( if I understand you correctly) - seeing the long lines, the big shapes and then refining them. Every single drawing I have done is wrong and imperfect but the more you work to see what the light and shadow are doing, the more you will record that. Look for the abstract shapes, the curves, the angles, etc., I will ( if I haven't already) come check out your SB ! Thanks for coming to see all of this whatnot!

Phatandy - thank you ! with the gestures - mostly I try to do a basic shape then refine - sometimes I just draw the form I see but I think it can be more of a design of the shape when I concentrate on the major shapes and the flow. So not accurate but thank you for seeing the good in them!

AAU is a pretty great place! I was there for 2 years and then studied with one teacher ( Tony Ryder) this last 9 months. I will likely continue on with the learning for a while yet ( so not almost over yet!!).. Yes they give homework but most all of it is fun to do and if you love drawing, you will have a blast trying to knock out your classmates with your homework! Oil paintings - I did not have a clue and waited a year before taking classes but my drawing had a pretty ok foundation by the time a started painting and that made the learning curve not so hideous.

My plans are to get as good as I can, never stop learning. I don't know anything yet about "style" per-se -just that I want to excel and create beautiful things ( and maybe teach when i'm ready!.. That fear is real but you can't let that bog you down! ( mostly!!)
