Long way to go but as long as it's a little fun too.

These are not in their original order and I am in the habit of using the back side of printed paper to kinda recyle.

your sketchbook with that and it could be very popular, with your growing in
anatomy etc. it only can go higher and higher. Keep going!

I think it's just a combination of study, practice and drawing from life hopefully we shall get there eventually, hard isn't it!

Nothing to say that hasn't already be said. You seem to be getting to grips with muscle positions but make sure you learn the proportion landmarks to keep everything tidy. Keep it up.

Here is where I picked up after a three week vacation, Lucky I decided to upload or I wouldn't have picked up the stuff that went amnesiac on me.

This scetchbook idea turned out to be a good idea. Good for reflecting back on your work and to refresh da memory a little.

You show a STRONG "hunger" to be good at this.
Good for you. Half the battle of becoming a good artist is simply wanting it enough to put the time and effort into it.

You tend to drift with your perspective too easily. Your studies show too much vacillation between serious study and creative style, but your rendering skills are not yet developed enough to afford you that leeway, so your studies start to look "odd." Noses start to get lumpy looking, and eyes start to become too rounded (almost 'pop' eyed), and the mouths almost all look like two deformed worms, usually too large for the faces...

Again, you HAVE talent. You HAVE the hunger to get better. You are just still too undisciplined with your studies. Try not to inject your "style" into your serious studies, and work more on making the features look "natural."
Try sketching 10 faces ~ no heads ~ with your focus on the eyes, nose, and mouth, seeing the 'T' shape those features form. This might help you see the relationships and shapes better.

I'm not the person to give critiques or advice on figure study, since I'm completely negligent in that area. I know... I know... figure study is important...rise and repeat. LOL! I admire your desire and determination to get it right... so don't follow my example or you'll be a crap artist like me!

Anyway.... I just came by to say thanks for checkin' out my sketchbook and give you a little boost.

Hey, nice sketchbook, keep up the studies. I agree with what madster said, really concentrate on proportions and everything's relative distance from each other. You seem to be on the right track though, so good job, also don't forget to add some imaginative stuff here and there too, and try to apply what you've learned. Keep it up, and thanks for the comment.

I did some recap stuff on face construction. I haven’t commit these to memory or habit as much as I should have. I vill try to not stupidly anymore.

But yes, yes, all work and no play kind of kills everything doesn't it.

I'll work through hogarth's stuff with full attention anyway to absorb whatever is there to absorb, but I will definitely go for loomis again after that book is done.

Got a mirror and did some self study on the structure of the eye, I still need to solidify some understandings. It'll get there.

I think you meant lower upper eyelids and eyebrows Zaorr. The ball of the eye and brow is constant.

hey there, thanks for dropping by! Im really liking what you're doing with your studies. You seem to be taking the information given in books and REALLY applying them to your work. All too often i just see people copying pages of the book not actually learning anything.

So keep it up!! its really paying off!

Yeah, was toying with the little I knew back then(Well I still don't know much). Gotta let them play now and then even if... Comments are always welcome... and playing lets folk quickly see what you got and what you don't.

I distort stuff now and then for sheer pleasure and emphasis but my work is too amateurish and crappily rendered at the mo to get that off as the intention.



Crawling through the Hoagarth stuff, but I must say I didn't notice the two little muscles that wings out from the brow untill I then noticed in the mirror. Now it's kinda unmissable.




Some nose studies from old FHM's(Rich resource).. I concentrated on identifying forms and blocking them in. Found a pig nostral brim thingy, I like that. I like the way a pig can wiggle it's tip. hehe!!

Did a quick color theory practice study before bed.

Made it hard for myself with the weird table pattern. Too lazy now to make the perfect phenumbra.

Self Crit:
The shadow is too oval
Just what did I notice with the reflection, It worked fixing the brim to have a non reflection but how does that apply to the rest of the sphere, what did I do there?
The shadow brim needs to be more defined towards the edges, it isn't "curled in enough" on the upper side of the brim.
Check out diffuse reflection again, was the table diffuse or specular or both?

And since I'm at it I tried my hand on some concepts I want to try out.


And one for color experimentation. I think this is what I had in the back of my mind when I did that ball on the freaky table.

dchung: Thanx man. Yes I drifted off there but then I heard the word “fresh” and “new” and it all came rollin back.

Figured out why I found loomis ball method so confusing.(Not going to post the struggle sketches) Turns out he didn't use it himself. He invented it or developed it as a teaching tool, the book shows subtle hints towards that: placing the brow on the wrong line here and there, etc.. It serves as understanding and is great for character development, understanding and a sense of form. But it wasn't his personal mental program for drawing heads.

These seems to have been the way he constructed and are more aligned with his method, and I am taking his advice, to memorize them along with the construction square.
