Bigus Sketchbook: New Picture page 6! hell yeah!

G'day fellas. Well, im onto my final year of illustration at Uni, and i realise that i have a lot to learn before i can even think of getting a job. Ive been drawing (on and off) for the last ten years, but until a bit over a year ago, i hadn't done anything really beyond the typical Dragonball Z fan art you see flooding the pages of DeviantArt. Last year really opened my eyes to illustration. Not enjoying graphic design at uni, i decided to make illustration my focus, and jumped into a course where i had basically no knowledge expierience other than DBZ and Gundam fan drawings, and definately no expierience with painting. Overall my assignments weren't too bad. I improved a lot throughout the year, learning to apply colour, visual interest and fairly decent compositions, but i think i skipped a big step in my first year of learning to draw (for real). I never really studied human anatomy, simplifying complex objects to basic shapes, or even the rules of perspective. This lets me down when im concepting ideas. I struggle with placing images on paper because i don't understand how the body and muscles moves, stretches or interacts with one another. I dont understand shape structure, why the skin folds the way it does, or how light hits the body. Basically. I dont know the fundamental rules of drawing.

Below are examples of my best work done throughout the year. Not half bad. But the closer you look, you see many problems with anatomy, perspective and a lot of unconfident lines. Mixture of traditional/digital work.

My goal over the next year (i better keep it up!!!) is to fill these pages with sketches, paintings and even quick doodles. Im basically doing this for myself, to keep a digital record of my process over this year, for me to look back on in times that i need more confidence. If someone wants to give their advice, opinion, even if its just to tell me i suck, feel happy to leave comments. Later dudes!!!

Go for it! Keep up those studies and try to apply what you learn. So if you've done some figure studies try do some from your head afterwards to practice your recall! Found this helps you progress much faster.
Took me about a year to land my 1st job as an illustrator, so keep pushing!

Well that was random... Conan was just on TV, i click myself into your SB and he's here too!

Anyway, your stuff is looking good, just keep an extra eye on proportions and most important of all; keep drawing.

Conan is pretty badass. Thanks for the comment. Proportions are one of my major weaknesses. Hopefully they will improve considerably over the next few months

Just did a dodgy colour overlay to see if my greyscale tones where ok. i think its working ok at the moment, just needs more details, highlights and contrasts.
And that hair is looking waaaay too ugly...

    Any advice would be great!

    and some doodles from yesterday.

Pic of Obama, and 2 of clint eastwood.

An attempt at drawing George Castanza, and an attempt at drawing a chick, who truned out looking like a dude.

I held my painting up to the mirror and just realised that his right eye, is too far away from the nose. i took a photo and digitally moved it across and the digital version looks fine. Damn. have to repaint the eye.

I see you have some hogarth books too, and is that lee van cleef in #16? I have to draw him some time. One tip I have for you is to keep the middle of the eye lined up with the edge of the mouth. I see you caught it in the leno painting
