Yes, Oldboy's awesome. Don't know if you know, but it's part of a Vengance trilogy. I recently watched the other two movies and they're good (though Oldboy is definitely my favorite out of those three).

I didn't know Mr. Vengeance and Oldboy were related. Anyways those are the most intense movies I have ever seen. After watching them I seriously regretted it, but would I watch them again? Hell Yeah!

While Im waiting till I can get my hands on the whole Vengeance trilogy, I watched Donnie Darko for the first time. I avoided seeing it because the only people who I ever see talk about it are emo/goth/deviant art girls. Well a friend of mine convinced me to see and I did. its not bad, I was surprised to see so many recognizable actors in it.

No country for old men

I loved that film. It's by the Coen brothers and I thought it was a notch better yet than their slightly similar older film, Fargo.

One of my favourite films ever, dying to read the book.

I've gone on a Coen Brother feast and over the last couple of weeks watched Fargo, Burn After Reading, A Serious Man and just last night, Barton Fink. Hopefully I'll soon be laying my hands on The Big Lebowski, which has regrettably somehow eluded me.

I have little doubt that the Coen Brothers are some of the best film writers around today. They're unbelievable story tellers.

I just watched American Psycho for the fourth or fifth time. The writing is poor in some areas and the quality of transition from one scene to the other varies. It also has some pacing issues but Bale's acting is great. He's really into the part and seems to have spent a lot of time perfecting each line. I get a kick out of watching him navigate the script without fumbling. In the hands of different writers and a new director, it could have been really really great. Bale is a really good actor between this and The Machinist.

I watched Inception this week. Awesome. Confused the hell out of me in the beginning, but I love movies that force the audience to actively pay attention.

Michael Clayton. I've seen lots of good reviews for it, and I like George Clooney, so when this Netflix envelope arrived I was fairly excited. After seeing the movie, though...meh. It is wonderfully acted, and there are some brilliant exchanges of dialog, but...those scenes felt momentary and brief, outnumbered by the scenes in which people do things and you don't quite know who the people are and you don't quite get the significance of their actions. It actually did tie itself up pretty well and make sense in the end, but I really don't like this style of film making. It feels amorphous and distant, impersonal. And great as Tilda Swinton's performance was, I don't think she did enough or was on screen long enough to warrant an Oscar.

Lawrence of Arabia- Excellent movie. Sweeping, epic, didn't feel like four hours.

On the Waterfront- Excellent movie.

Pandorum- Eeh...okay movie. Probably spoilers ahead if you haven't seen it. It starts out well, with Quaid and Foster try to figure out who they are and what the situation is, but, with few exceptions, it goes somewhat downhill as it goes along. The Asian martial arts guy and the hot warrior babe are totally uninteresting cliches. On top of that, though the actress who pays the warrior chick is German, her accent sounds totally fake, and she delivers every line in this monotonous whispery voice. Really, very little about either of those characters rings true; they are characters in a movie, not real people, and very little is done to try to convince me otherwise. As for the mutants (spoiler! though you see them pretty early), they are the most disappointing movie monsters I've seen in a while. They are basically the cave boogeymen from [B]The Descent" (which weren't very exciting monsters themselves, in my opinion) that roar like the stupid zombies from "I Am Legend" and dress in post-apunkalyptic props leftover from "Ghosts of Mars" and "Doomsday." Their designs are cliched, the noises they make are loud and stupid, and they're filmed in in an annoying sped up jerky way. Didn't care for em. The movie had one of my least favorite types of soundtracks as well: subdued techno noises, weird subdued guitar noises, "cool" drum machine tracks. Look at the "Alien" franchise to see how to really compose a creepy outer space soundtrack.
Despite all my complaints, though, the story did hold my attention, and there were indeed some satisfying surprises, and I must appreciate any non-franchise science fiction movie with some ambition. It's a shame that so much of this movie is derivative and uninspired.

Scott Pilgrim was a breakthrough in comicbook adaptations. The captions and sfx and such really suspended any disbelief. Even videogame adaptations need to take notes on this one.

Recently watched When The Wind Blows.

Unbelievably depressing film. I don't why I watched it to the end when I knew it wouldn't end any better, but I did. Have to visit the cheer me up thread now. Still, I did like the overall look of the film, which I hear is very close to the graphic novel it was based on.

It was the best animated Batman evar! Not particularly well animated, but the story was Nolan worthy. If you need a batman fix, then get it. Get it now!

Breakfast Club and sixteen candles. John Hughes is amazing! I've seen Bueler's day off, National Lampoon's vacation, Home alone series and weird science as a kid and seeing some of his movies now I really appreciate just how great of a writer/director he was
