Elf Warrior VS Demonork + Sci-Fi Stuff (Concept Art Packagex2). Updated-4/10

Hello all and happy new years!

The past two months I've been working on what I'd like to call a "concept art package". I guess it's like getting all the ingredients together for a cake. But with experimentation involved.

The premise was to have a large creature battling against a human-like character.

So here you'll find the final illustration along with some early turnarounds, environment studies, character and creature designs, and some really early thumbnails for the characters and the final illustration comp (I ended up using none of the comps, but I combined a bunch of elements from most of them).

    Enjoy!

These are pretty darn good, the final images have a nice sense of action and are very cinematic. I like the quick colour studies you did as well, shows how your thinking about the story, action and composition of the piece.

I'm afraid I have to dissent a bit from the majority opinion. Although I really like all the prep work you did on this, and all the thought you put into it, the final image seems so hidden behind layers of blur and snow and flare and fog that its hard to look at. There is great motion in the final piece, but the modeling of form is a let down after seeing how much you did in the work that led up to it. The elf's arms and legs and feet could all use some work in that regard.

Some of this happens in the prep work as well. The sixth picture in particular. It is a great picture compositionally, with a cool color scheme and a lot of nice elements. I guess I'm just not a fan of using blur to represent different planes of focus. I wish you had found another solution to adding depth.

The b/w sketches are excellent, solid, detailed and believable. The colour concepts are good too, especially the two snowy ones which have distinct mood. Not sure what happened on the final piece, though. None of the great definition from the concept characters came across and neither did the mood from the colour pieces. I don't know if I need to crit it because you obviously have the skills to produce a real corker, but in this case for whatever reason you went off on a tangent and didn't use them.

I gave you 4* for the characters sketches alone

I actually think the top second row in the final image set you posted is a stronger composition. Also, sad to say, I don't know if the final illustration really lives up to the amount of work you put into it. The post is really impressive in scope and the prep-work put in is staggering, but the final illustration just feels a bit messy to me. Too much blur and effects distracts from the action itself.

Still extremely impressive job all around, though. Keep up the good work!

    Great

    Hi All,

First off, thanks for all the comments, people. I did my best to integrate all your crits into what you're about to see in a second.

So the past few months I've been really busy with work and many other things, but I've been slowly and steadily been trying to create some more artwork for a sci-fi based concept art package. I wanted to do something a bit different, a bit mature and a bit funny, and a lot of other things I've never really tried before. I'm not done yet (maybe 60%?), but so far I've learned quite a bit and I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone. Hope you'll all enjoy this!

    The Lab:
    -Outside Speedpainting

    -Indoor Speedpainting

    -Indoor Refined

    The Cast (partial)
    -Alien Ideation Sketches

    -Alien Design/ Loose Orthos

    -Male Character/Vigilante Orthos (WIP)

    -Male Character/Vigilante Portrait (WIP)

    -Alien Mech Variations

    Vehicles:
    -Vehicle Variations

-Vehicle 3/4 View (I'll probably end up doing a different one)

    Misc:
    -Alien Frustration

    -Versus

Hope to share some more with you guys soon. :]

Nice work. This is my first time seeing your stuff. I dig the last image you posted. The first two speed paints in the same post are slick as well.
