Hand Tutorials

Hi All,

Dont know if I've put this in the right place, But does anyone have or know of any good tutorials in sculpey for making hands?

Everytime I start a sculpt the hands are always the things I dread sculpting!

ANY help would be greatfully appreciated

I dont know any online-tutorials that handle the subject good enough in my opinion, but I can strongly recommend the book "Modelling and Sculpting the Human Figure" by Edouard Lanteri. It's not very expensive and pretty much a must-read for sculpting anything human.

I haven't found a definitive method yet. I think there are many different ways to go about it, but you really have to go trial and error until you find the best method. I tried making a complete wire armature, blocking out the form in magic sculpt, but honestly the best hands I've don so far are on the piece I'm working on now, Vali. I just went straight to the sculpey firm, and blocked them in following the general shapes, smoothing and refining until I was satisfied, which I'm still not. But they look better than any of my other statues. I used my own hands as reference. And literally just looked at them as i was working, trying to observe them. They are definitely tricky though...I think it might be nice if some of the other artists here detailed their process rather than posting tutorials, because honestly it is helpful to hear your own experience, and sometimes those tutorials really apply to a specific style of sculpting, rather than an overall experience. I guess hand problems are a universal thing!
Maddmaestro I must admit I am having the same experience as you, where my latest sculpt has some respectable digits, but its only through constant refining they are starting to look right, Which got me thinking are there any short cuts. I'm glad its not just me!
