@Strassenpenner08: Guy's greatand thanks!
A character, first the pencil sketch, then the digital. More an exercise in lighting from imagination than an exercise in character design.

The studies you have been doing are frickin awesome! Especially the Ratatouille ones. They warmed my heart.Hmmm one crit. It seems like sometimes with your figures that the muscles are just making them seem really bulky and not graceful at all. Muscles stretch and contract based on the motion of the human body and do it in a very fluid elegant way. Some of your sketches definitely execute this better than others. I would say since you seem to know your muscle structure well enough, keep in mind how they almost weave in and out of each other and make sure they don't end up as bumps of tissue protruding from an arm or leg. That's all I've got. The studies are SOLID. I love your sketchbook.
The axe man on this page looks fantastico. My only crit here is that the fingers on his left hand seem a little confused...like I can't quite which one is the middle finger like I can in the original sketch. Sweet work. *high five* Keep going, buddy.
@Matte_Art: HAHAHA you're so rightI think i'll do a thin character next
@sketcheth: Thanks for the crit! i've written it to a jpeg image and used it as my desktop wallpaper. So i wont forget. *high five back*
Not much for today:
2 photo grayscale studies
1 pencil study

Man... this stuff is really getting gooood, really.
I'm jealous at your photostudies.
This last post was really nice I like the calm colors in the enviros. Inspiering, I slack alot when it comes to enviros.

Even though I think this is your first venture into digital color on environments... I think that red building one makes me feel good
That one stands way above the others especially in terms of lighting.
Really, I think that one is great!
Keep pushing, your doin' great!![]()

Alrite Brain mate, those enviros are gettin there... wouldn't mind seeing more detail, maybe working into them more like you do with the character designs... but other than that folio's coming along nicely. well done !![]()
Colour studies are rockin, nice stuff all around but I think you need to use a larger brush... your brushstrokes are still a bit chaotic.
BIG CELEBRATION:![]()
I've now been learning how to draw for 1 year. Thats counting 2 months of not touching a pencil at all (exam periods) and getting a bachelors degree from business school.
@Lyno: Thanks
@B-Man: Thanks, so did I. kind of scary jumping into it after studying the figure for so long.
@Matte_Art: Thanks! I'll have to be more careful in picking my reference photos in the future.
@Cuervo: Im alittle too insecure in my environemtn to put much detail into them for now, but it will definitely come
@Ookchk: I'll remember to keep that in mind, thanks.
Deadwood theme for todays update:
- first two indoor color/environment/lighting studies. Hard because the colors were so desaturated.
- then a storyboard of the fightscene in season 2 episode 1. Had coro's storyboarding downloadable running in the background
- 2 cowboy characters from ref.

It must be quite an inspiration to see how much you progressed.
Storyboard is looking good btw.
Maybe in the future you can take some more time to clean up some lines or planes.
very nice characters mate, and the storyboard really interesting.
Keep up![]()

You ever had one of those days where you start a piece, make a few lines ... look at it for 15 minutes and go "noohhh - naahhh", then starts another one and does exactly the same? Well yesterday was one of those days. Frustrating!

Rinse, repeat lol!You ever had one of those days where you start a piece, make a few lines ... look at it for 15 minutes and go "noohhh - naahhh", then starts another one and does exactly the same? Hey Braintree,
I just went through your sketchbook and I have to say your progress from the beginning til now has been super! Congrats on the one year of drawing, you've done a lot of work and progress. I've just started my own journey a couple of months ago as well and it's inspiring to see how far you've gotten.
Sketchbook - freakmod wants to learn how to draw really well
@Matte_Art: Replied in your SBand Thanks!
@freakmod: Thanksglad you find it inspiring, just keep at it!
todays update:

Today's update:
-Poses from characterdesign.com
-Fashion from hel-looks
You must do these really fast... I say try taking your time with a couple and see how close you can get it to the actual picture.
Great progress regardless, but it still maintains that really scratchy quality.
Both of those sites are definitely great for learning from though. It helps to get everything going right
I kinda missed out on your assignment yesterday, mainly for the sheer fact that I've been so nervous about this art job that I've been fighting to get. But I GOT ITSo now it's time to start crackin' down hard!
I'm going to start following your assignments throughout the day as best I can
Keep going...

and: CONGRATS
todays update:
-2 MMA color studies
-Bridgeman studies of the arm.
-A portrait using ONLY 2 values. Hard!!
Oh man, now that's much MUCH better! The color studies are beyond me, but they look great regardless
I'm sure you get how impossibly hard it is to do negative space after that drawing hahaha with the face.
And then the bridgeman looks great... I'm still have LOTS of trouble comprehending how they piece together. I'll have to figure it out very very soon.
Keep it up![]()

I like the variety of people you drew, the center of balance for some of the figures seem to be at diagonal.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1248199226
Nice angle and expression!
Your rim lightening is improving a lot. The cool blues over the warm flesh tones on your fighter is nice touch. I gave painting some of the fighters a go for studying. You make it seem easy. I'm struggling with mine...haha.
Make a sketchbook happy, feed it a tip to improve!
