-drop, drop it like it's hot->

Been a long time stalker of CA, bout 2 years now, finally worked up the huevos...and artwork to finally post some of my own work.

Been focusing on learning 3D for the past two years. Want to start sketching again and improve...a lot in that department, as well as using photoshop and painter for concepts and such.

Anyhoo, here is my first complete concept ever done in photoshop. It's a drop ship for a full conversion video game mod. I'm currently modeling this among other 3D assets for the game. I will be posting 3D work I've done as well as some other junk.

I scrounged up a couple of first attempt concepts of the drop ship. I started these using pen on paper. One of them I added type to in photoshop, and the other I added some texture and highlights. Also a cannon concept for the DS.

Wow! Thanks for the kind words fellas. Really means a lot...Reject, I've been following your work for some time. And TheDirt, really digging all your work, the design and logos too...a real pro!

Ok, time for some 3D. Sorry about the size of the images, but didn't want to lose any quality since I just have the jpegs, can't find the original tiffs/psd files at the moment.

I'll put some more 2D stuff up next.

Nice crafts and 3D models. I have noticed you have the crafts mainly from side view. Can you draw them in perspective? I am trying to learn it by sketching small not detailed crafts. Hope to see more of your work soon .

    Thanks jMarkus and Fregy.

Fregy, pretty much all of these concepts I posted so far were for 3D modeling purposes. That's why they are either just front, or side views, or both...plus, I have a hard time with perspective, another thing I need to work on. And with that, here is some non-perspective character stuff.

Ok, so I found the original concept for the creature I posted previously. I think I like the original better now that I'm looking at it. I also found a couple of McDoodles about the size of my thumb...I tend to draw a lot of those but end up losing or tossing 'em. I did buy a pocket sketchbook last week so now I don't have to find scraps of paper around the office to draw on. Still use the trusty 'ol bic pen though.

    hey there...

Was thinkin the same about the creature, that it looks better sketched.
I also have that all the time, after colouring I always lose a lot of crispyness and details...think we just need more practice haha...

    Keep it up...Cya

Thanks ghoulio, practice is always good...was out of practice for quite some time myself, and just trying to play catch up at this point.

Still working on the game mod, put the drop ship modeling aside to work on a couple props as we're trying to get the first playable level completed. Right now I'm finishing up the hi-res version of a containment unit and will model the lo-res version and texture it once I'm finished with that.

I put up some quick concept sketches of it I made in my pocket sketchbook...as well as a simple shader render of just the unit that holds the containee. As well as a quick paint-over of some decals and such for texturing ideas.

    Thanks Jorge!

Haven't posted anything in awhile. Still busy with the game mod. Doing some concept stuff atm.

Here are a couple doodles to start out with...the only time I have to draw these days is during render tests for 3D stuff.

Here is a concept for a walkway/catwalk to be used in the game mod.

I used Maya for the model concept (photoshop for post) just to demonstrate various configurations, and photoshop for the texture concept.

Here is another render of the containment unit. No texturing yet, just shaders and glow effects for the lights in Maya.

All the hi-res modeling is done including the base and arm which isn't posted here yet, since this is another one of mine that has been put on hold for now. We're very close to getting the first map completed and trying to get all those assets out.

A few thumbnails I did for a door access panel/keypad...for the mod. We're going with 2 and 1. I should have some clean, gussied up versions to post very soon.

really awesome work; the characters are great; the vehicles maybe even better.. only thing that gets my eyes, is you hand and feet studies seem a little off. like the perspective in these is broken somehow.

tandy1000- And I wish I had just a fraction of raw talent of many of the great artists here at CA. We just gotta keep at it.

    rossipoo-Thank you sir!

lichunlei-I now have your sketchbook bookmarked...lotsa great stuff.

ashess-Thank you! I def. have to improve on my drawing skills. That's the main reason I started this sketchbook, to motivate me to do more 2D stuff. I'll be the first to admit my perspective drawings are off. Plus, most of the drawings were done at work, either on a break or when I should have been doing something else...like putting away files instead of hiding behind them.

Puppet.-The most recent stuff is for the game mod I'm working on with a bunch of other artists atm. The only pieces that I kept from the classes I took at "school" was The Fly (Intro to Zbrush-Miguel Ortega), my first time using Zbrush, and the Katana (Texturing2-Stephen McClure). Almost 3 years ago I wanted to see what this 3D stuff was all about so I decided to take an Intro to Maya class at ...after the first day I decided this is what I want to pursue as my new career. After taking a few more classes, getting a foundation, and having a baby with my wife, I've been mostly learning new things as I go along. It's a never ending learning process...the complete opposite from what I'm doing for a living atm.

Venial-Thank you for your kind words!
