More work on the Venus copy. Doesn't really look like much here, so take my word on it.

dude, FUCK. Your brushwork has gotten SO SO MUCH BETTER. The edges in the sofa couple and really all of your paintings are outstanding. You've leveled up so hard since the last time I visited your sketchbook. I'm jealous.
"A drawing is not necessarily academic because it is thorough, but only because it is dead. Neither is a drawing necessarily academic because it is done in what is called a conventional style, any more than it is good because it is done in an unconventional style. The test is whether it has life and conveys genuine feeling."- Harold Speed

maybe try flake white for the lights? you are right its darker, but on the first one its also very blue his is much more yellow.
cool stuff man!
Finished painting from the model in Huihan's class.
great shadows man!
how many hours?
great work!
Engaging color work. I think something's up with the model's left leg. It doesn't feel it's attached right. Look it over, to see if I'm right.

im in love with your artim going to study some fine art as well, if im accepted into the artschool i applied to! give me your skillz!
Ryan: Thanks! I think I spent 10 hours or so on that.
Moonrage: Thanks a lot, glad the color's getting somewhere! This has definitely been a semester of experimentation for me in that department. I can't check the issue with the leg now that the pose is over, but it's possible that something was measured incorrectly.
Parsakoira: Thanks man! Definitely definitely definitely study painting. All the great illustrators were great painters. Which school have you applied to?
The first 2 couples painting are done.
Oh my oh my, I love your sketchbook! Great paintings and sketches. I did skip few pages, but I will check it back when I have time. You really captured the mood and feel in your paintings. Thanks for sharing. Subscribed!
Michoangelo: Thanks so much!
This was a quick study I did yesterday to experiment with a limited palette - white, indian yellow, quinacridone red, phthalo blue, and ivory black. I learned that you can indeed mix a large part of the gamut from them, and I learned that all those paints are so transparent that it's nearly impossible to get a thick passage with any strong color in it. Also, the drawing sucks, but in my defense I was rushing and fighting with thin paint.
Also, canvas panels are the devil. Like, srsly gaiz.
such crazy oil paintings!

Ryan: Here ye go!
Raminafshari: Thanks!
Here's the finished Fruit bazaar painting, a closeup of the girl's face in it, weeks 1 and 2 of a 4 week pose in Huihan's class, and as far as I'm going with the Bouguereau copy.
Great colors and forms!
Lyno: Thanks!
Here's the acrylic wash-in for my ArtOrder entry. Going to start the oil painting now.
Lovely colours! I love how painterly your paintings are.
You have some great sketchbook stuff back a few pages ago too, I wouldn't mind seeing some more of that![]()
Love your oils. I looked at the first 5 pages of your skbook and last 5. To have improved that much in such a short time, you must have been studying every waking moment. Great stuff.

Rhubix: Thanks! I'll post some sketchbook pages for sure when I have the time, between taking photos, editing them and dealing with CA's utterly horrid attachment manager I'd need to set like an hour aside.
Mitze: Thanks! I could probably study more, but I'm glad the work's paying off.
Week 3 of 4 on the figure painting.
who's awsome.. ur awsomesorry for the asspat.. i just wanted to let you know how i think about the work ur producing mister!

RBeek: Why thank you.
Progress on the Nazgul piece. Sorry for the blurry crappy photo.
Wish I had something constructive to say, awesome work all I around.
EDIT: If you don't mind, I was wondering what your opinion of the Illustration classes at AAU? I'm looking at Illustration 1 and wondering if I'd be better off just taking some more figure painting/drawing classes. Basically did you feel like you got a lot out of the illo classes?
Thanks!

My heavens, I'm in love with your oil studies! The colors are excellent and your brush work is so soft. Your compositions are beautiful as well - great sketchbook. Really great.
Pierce9: Thanks! I'm not sure about most of the illustration classes at AAU actually, the only undergrad one I took was Narrative painting (Craig Nelson), and the 3 grad ones were all good- teachers I had were Bill Maughan, Lisa Berrett and Stephen Player. Almost all of my classes have been drawing and painting, which I really needed for the first 2 years. I feel like how much you get out of the illustration classes will really depend on how solid your foundations are, so if you feel shaky I'd do more figure/portrait for now. Chuck Pyle should also be able to give you a good idea of what classes will suit your skill level.
TookMyPearl: Thank you!
Progress on the Nazgul piece. About a day of work left on it.
oh man your work is so fantastic!
love the way you handled the grass in the last piece - and the expression in the horses face! the chest of the warrior holding the sword looks a bit strange, but sorry nothing too constructive ..![]()
xbert: Thanks!
Finished the LOTR piece.
