    Classical is totally Awesome! I never said anything bad about classical! It's heavier than metal too! Anyway, I've been listening to less and less metal anyway, and the metal I like isn't very metal too.

    This is gorgeous stuff. And you're 15? I'm 16 and my ass hurts because you're kicking it. Really hard. And it hurts. Because you're kicking it. Really hard.

    You're a smart kid and your taste in music is well defined and advanced for your (our) age. No one within a 50 mile radius of me listens to prog rock. Forget good music taste in my high school.

    I still listen to "core" crap though. Mindless screamo and high pitched male singers with pointless keyboards. Devil Wears Prada and Saosin, baby. We would never get along in real life. But thankfully this is a drawing forum.

    Don't give up on drawing, dude. I don't know about what other stuff is going on in your life, but this is something you're really good at. Don't throw it away. You want to be an album illustrator? Prog bands are already showing your stuff on their tours and you're probably the best 15 year old on CA (no offense to anyone else). That should be motivation enough. Don't get discouraged.

    And change the title of your sketchbook. It shows a lack of confidence. Hold your chin up high!

    EDIT: That's the spirit.

    not strange you get into a depression from listening to that kind of music and seeing people in black with strange beards and not too positive lyrics all the time... looking at life from their point of view doesnt really make someone happier i guess. dont take life so serious. Thinks will work out better if you dont!
    and dont stop with the art, because its great!

    Ok, so for now I'll post an acrylic (18x24) painting I finished in class. Sorry for the AWFUL camera quality, I took a picture with my phone. I'll try to get a good quality picture that shows all of the detail. I'm quite proud of this one.

    Mortification have an album called Scrolls of the Megilloth
    but megilloth in Hebrew means scrolls
    so its --> scrolls of the scrolls

    LoL,
    Relax;

    I think this music reaches a audience that normally would be ignored.
    Humbled

    In art we show light to show dark and dark to show light.
    The same is in life with good and evil, if we arrogantly ignore the other it is to our own disadvantage.

    Also, not all things in the Bible are pretty;
    There is much wrath and horrors;
    Frost Like Ashes' A Cruel Verse is a small sample of this.

    This by no means is a justification to the anomaly and I can see how you see it the way you do. It is just my perception on the matter.

    Not sure who told you about the meaning but Scrolls of the Megilloth is a collection of 5 scrolls (Megillot) in the old testament:

    1: Esther
    2: Ruth
    3: Lamentations
    4: Song of Songs
    5: Ecclesiastes

    Ecclesiastes illustrates the sobering idea on the vanity of life and is really just some good reading.

    I too have grown a bit weary from the metal scene;

    Lately its been:
    Patsy Cline, Louis Armstrong, Jo Stafford, June Christy, Patti Page, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman....

    Anywho;
    You should be Proud of that last painting!
    You have a title in mind?

    Lets see some more of those updates and a better resolution on the acrylic.
    You are only 15 and your collection surely reflects your diligence to your craft!
    I'll have to remember your name and pay attention to album cover artist now

    Yeah cool stuff man.

    I can definantly sympathize with you there man. I think I've gone through the exact situation almost word for word about a year ago. Just take your time man, you'll pull through it. I mean damn man, I was 15 when I started drawing. Just keep on rolling man, and try to keep chilled and relaxed, don't let anyone get you're panties in a knot. Remember, you've got time. Get your shit together and move on, don't look back.

    Thank you! Actually, I was hesitant with posting my age because I knew that would happen. There a lot of artists here (I'm not naming them) that post their age in like every post. It really bugs me... I used to do that too. I was such a cocky fucker!

    Here's a major-WIP of a painting I'm making. I don't really know what it is yet hahaha, it's going to be sort of similar to the acrylic one I did. What you see is just the acrylic mono-tone under painting. I'm going to paint on top of this with oils. This is the sketch. I've never done a real oil painting so this will be entirely trial and error, that acrylic was my first acrylic too.

    So here's how the oil painting stands as of one day of painting. The first photo shows the first rough in of color, the other two are me working on it more. It's still very WIP. I'm having a lot of trouble getting a good pic of it sorry... and yeah that's my computer as an easel hahaha. Oils are funny but they're different than acrylics and MUCH different than digital and they shouldn't even be allowed in the same room as airbrush... it's weird working this way. I normally choose one color that I apply as a hundred different colors depending on pressure. For oils I really have to pay attention to the different colors.

    Oooh sick updates and hey was just poking a bit of fun at you! Freakin awesome for acrylics, I always end up with mud but you got some sick colours. The oils are looking tough too. Takes awhile to get used to it but once you get it they are great to work with.....just stay in practice underwise U might, like me ,spend days moving paint around and making a mess before you get going.
    As for a nice photo try during the day in a well lit room. the more diffues the less the shine. I you can get access to it, 2 lamps from either side gets you a nice lighting setup to take photos.
    Keep up the good work!

    BTBAM (especially Colors! ) is an awesome band! But the poor quality of their early works make them not one of my favorites. Besides I'm not a big fan of Hardcore stuff. Still, amazing band. Get their new DVD... mind blowing!

    These are awesome, the only crit I would have is try to create more interest in the entire piece rather than just the focus, try playing with different layers of gradients if that makes sense. If you look in nature most of it is really just a bunch of different gradients broken up by textures; I know you could do it easy though, you have the rendering skills.

    I think it's kind of weird how metal is perceived as depression music, as if metal fans crowded into a huge fucken stadium in order to go cry and mosh haha, maybe that's why it's not mainstream. I had some girl in school tell me she didn't like it because you "can't even understand the lyrics" which I found kinda odd as I can't tell what the lyrics are in 90% of music in general.

    Also have you ever listened to Orphaned Land or Neurosis? orphaned land is like israeli prog metal with heavy dream theater influence, amazing instrumental sections, and Neurosis is a lot like an evil version of Isis. Both amazing bands that don't really get much attention.

    Wait, are you really 15? Cause the works look really good. At 15, i was still drawing deformed faces with oversized eyes and a dot as a nose.
    Making metal music cds are way great. i listen to power metal by the way and i do like their cd covers eg. Rhapsody. dragons!

    Don't stop making art dude, you've got great talent!

    I'm a fan of both! Erk at Dream Theater influence though... I don't hear that at all. They're a pretty unique band. Much closer to Agalloch or Opeth than Dream Theater only that their Scandinavian folk influence is replaced with Middle Eastern folk influence.

    What the fuuuuuuuuuuck, these fifteen year olds just shitting all over me. Some very tight stuff, man. Pretty incredible to already have ties to famous bands like that (not necessarily 'ties', but to get brought backstage that easily is pretty impressive xD).
