I'm a bit meh about his concept of the "virtual elimination of geography". Across the US states? Maybe. Outside of that, people's experiences of the internet are vastly different, thanks to things like state censorship and the quality of internet access provided, if the privilege of internet access is available to a certain community.
And the whole thing about becoming a "leader" is kind of creepy and a bit contradictory to the comments about the problems with top-down business strategies.

Opilione: Most of my interest in the article was the formation of social constructs, especially how it related to the relative success of banding together and growing niches of interest. Your points are indeed valid, I do think the author is guilty of that out-dated feeling of internet as the "revolution" that they think it is.
