NickyBeats - The skeleton and me are history, he hit me too much too often...!
BlightedArt - Thanks bud, i thought they were a bit stiff. Glad you see it differently, makes me feel a bit better about them!
walnut - Gah, look at my lazy ass, heres that update as promisedGlad you dig that stuff man, hope to have more exciting things in the future! You rock!
chuck18mp - Clean lines are the name of the game. Not really though, it would probably be good for me to break away from such 'precise' linework from time to time, anyway, thanks amigo!
Two updates in a day, joy! Heres that 6-page comic i mentioned earlier, starring your friend and mine, Garlic Pal! This was for a food based character sequential competition, this won me round 1 .Though to be honest it wasnt too much of a contest, the others didnt take it as seriously and just did it the night before. You can imagine how theirs turned out, crap pencils and no inks, etc. Anyway, did this to get my feet wet in comics again, hope you dig it,Let me know what you think~!
damn those anatomy studies blew my mind. Any advice on a good way to efficiently learn all the muscles? Doing studies like that make me dizzy sometimes
>>Sketchbook<<
Thanks for dropping by Tofa! As for your question, i don't know how effective my method of study really is. I can't say i know the names of many major muscle groups, only really the basic placement of where the masses should go. After I do studies like that on the last page it all sticks in my head for a while, but eventually i find myself fumbling to remember certain muscular patterns and such. I think if i went about my studies different and actually focused a bit more on memorizing what's what things would stick better in the long run.
Though i'm not sure if that really answers anything for you. Something i always try to keep in mind is symmetry and balance. It's also helpful to draw a skeletal form first and built the muscles on top of it, trying to keep in mind how they attach and overlap, building mass. Browsed through your sketchbook earlier and you're definitely doing well with your studies, looks like you've got a keen sense of construction already, so i think it's just a matter of constant work and things like muscles will be easy as pie! Hope that was a bit more helpful
Hey folks, for this update, sketchy business, stuff and things including concept sketches for the comic. More to follow soon!

LOL... a little self-insert on the hamburger eater? The comix was offdahook as the kids say...(some of the kids say).
Loved that... you have a gift for that type of storytelling and staging. You and TheGnoll are like peas in a pod, for sure.... and you're both destined for comix greatness. Garlic pal is amazing.
The clam man is cool too. Good to see so many rapid-fire updates. This sh*ts gotta be feeling pretty fun.

haha holy shit garlic pal is awesome
thanks a lot man, thats some really solid advice. V.helpful! I need to find myself a life size skeleton ^^
>>Sketchbook<<
Tofa - Awesome, glad you could find some use out of that. And yes! My anatomical skeleton has been one of the biggest aids in musculature studies. I'm sure a small desk skeleton would suffice in a pinch though!
insane lemur - Yeah! Great to hear, thanks a bunch man!
NickyBeats - Y'know i've actually never seen the movie or animated series, i really should though. Seems right up my alley! Thanks man!
Heres a 4x7inch sticker I did for a friends sketchbook. Mmm chilidog! Tried out watercolors this time instead of my typical marker stickers. Though if i had it my way there'd be some mustard on that puppy too. I may redraw one for myself soon.

Hi Austen,
great to see your new stuff and the increasing level of your skills!
What about some new shapes? ;-) If you need more muscle references, try these:

Finally I added your sketchbook to the pencil masters thread.
Shoot. Have I been out of it. I wish I knew how to keep track of people's threads because you've had a ton of updates, it seems.
I really enjoyed the garlic comic. You have such a clear handle on characterization and story. I like how you could see the soul sucked out of the gingerbread man and know exactly what was going on. A lot of people wouldn't even try such strangeness, let alone pull it off. Great stuff.

I love how you incorporated a real photo into your Garlic Pal comic. Funny as hell.
Can't wait to see more from ya.

Just looked at garlic pal again, and just wanted to say how much I love it! Impressive to me how well you sold the tunnel to hell opening up, not to mention all the goodness of the rest of the panels. Looking forward to the next!
i think Austen is preparing something special that will be well worth the wait...
and i have a feeling zombies are involved
come back soon dude!
