Some more work on that last illustration. Not too sure how to apply the colors and make it look natural, still fiddling around with multiply and overlay layers.

A few C. Mullins & R. Ruppel studies of values, textures etc.
Man, getting images to read sharp is so darn complicated.

Hey there, I don't think I had come around to thank you for your reply in my sketchbook (ages ago).

I really love your progress and the compositions you are trying- very ambitious and improving quickly! I think the tank in the forest is by far the weakest of them all; the mechanical soldiers in the streets and in the red mountainous landscapes on the other hand are really awesome!! I think it's because you focus hard edges and sharpness on the vital parts and blur out unnecessary stuff- it is working very well for me

    Keep it up!

Lots of improvement on just this last page, the sci-fi environment from #101 is nice. It could use some more atmospheric perspective, the values in the middle ground (waterfall, dome building) are quite similar to those in the foreground.

    Keep rockin'

Hello, you dropped by my sketchbook I think it was yesterday? anyways, wanted to thank you for the nice feedback and take some time to look at your sketchbook too! your studies are awesome, i love that latest portrait study. The environment just before that is really good (post 102), only thing about it that could use more attention are the human figures in it. Id suggest spending some more time on them or either removing them, they are in a dark corner anyway so they dont seem like an important part of the image, so i dont think you would lose any appeal to the image by removing them (but your the boss, you decide!). From what I see, in most of your environments, the character silhouettes could use a bit more love . Keep that in mind for the next ones you do, since figures always catch viewers attention, and if they are a bit wobbly or too sketchy, it will bring down the overall quality of the image even if they are so tiny hehe. Im aware though most of the stuff you post are really just sketches and studies, so it doesn't really matter in the end but lets say your working on a portfolio piece, you definitely want to polish the human silhouettes. So that's it! thats all I had to say, haha! I'm sure you'll be getting a concept art position soon after your class is done, cause what your showing right now is already very good. So as long as you keep practicing as hard as you already are, itll happen for sure. Take it easy!

I want to say something insightful but your already doing everything you need to improve.
Sometimes your perspective gets a little wonky - like post 101 where we're looking down at the landscape, but up at the oil rig- but I think you'll wrangle that in as you go.

So keep on keeping on - you're visibly improving with each page of your sb - and you've got a great imagination for stuff which can't really be taught

    Happy sketching!

    Thanks for leaving feedback everyone!

@gerezon and Rhubix, yes I agree. That's why I dropped it and completely reworked the composition in 102

@Matt levert, good point. I always forget the little buggers when working the bigger scope. You're absolutely right tough!

Anyways, just saw the Hobbit and i'm in the mood for drawing some serious bearded, orc-cleaving, ale drinking dwarf so these are the preliminary studies. I'll try to make this a portfolio piece so...

Oh woah, your signature is gold. Very inspiring. Great update btw! It's awesome looking through sketchbooks and seeing vast improvements. In post 109 I'm liking the second thumb a lot more, the pose itself gives him a lot of character and the expression works well hand in hand.

I got the job!!!! That and my CGMA class has started today. Which basically means no sleep for the next 2,5 months O_O. But that doesn't matter, I love what I do and I finally get paid to draw...that feels amazing.

Will be posting some art soon.

Hey Tea_of_doom, I enjoyed looking at your studies, especially the master studies.

I'd say that currently the area you need to work on the most is your drawing. It's looking a little under par compared to your painting. Areas of your portraits and/or figures area little wonky, stiff, and disproportionate. You also have some figure drawing with some nice flow as well. For example these last two dwarves, the number 1 rough is pretty stiff, flat, and his arm is especially wonky. Whereas the number 2 dwarf has a much nicer flow and dimension to his pose(although it's looking a little bit like he's 'posing' too much(which he may in fact be)). With number 2 I'm aslo drawn to the fact that his leg and foot facing us feels little bit tweaked uncomfortably compared to the leg in the back.

Keep up the good work! Which company are you starting your new job at?

@arghmisfitOh hey didnt know you had a sketchbook in here. For the dwarf sketches: Yea I see what you mean. I didn't want to overexagerate the forshortening of the limbs you are talking about because I wanted it too look natural. Guess it ended up looking wonky. Thanks for the critique....i'll get back with some figure studies eventually for sure.

Crazy weekend. I participated to the Global Game Jam here in Montreal (so that makes a total of 10hrs of sleep for the last 3 days), but it was super awesome. I met a lot of people, learned a ton and most importantly had a blast.

This is the game our team came up with:
