Jamie and Matt thanks for the encouragement guys, it really does help motivate me Hopefully I can get some critiques from you when you guys get some time?

Iven, thanks man, I stopped by your SB and left you a note as well.

I haven't posted in awhile but I've been drawing. Recently I'm trying work more on my line and thinking more before actually putting lines down. Right now things are messy and dirty. I also need to start using darker pencils or use pen or something, all this light gray is getting boring.

doing great man, though i miss seeing you at sketchgroup. anyway, you wanted crits...

post 128, the first guy, his head is quite small compared to his legs, which should be smaller due to the perspective. it helps me to gesture the limbs in in light, skinny triangles and then figure out the anatomy from there; dunno if i could help you, but that's an idea. anyway, other big thing i notice is that it is a little thing...hands, and the webbing between them. you seem to draw the break in fingers even on the back of the hand and the palm, but they are different lengths. on the palm side, the webbing is at the midpoint of the first digit from the knuckle, but on the back side the split goes probably about a quarter closer to the knuckle. it'll make your hands look a little more natural. other thing i would say is watch the proportions of your legs. on the gun-toting woman with the robotic suit-legs (last picture), remember the rhythms of motion and guideline of opposite limbs...her right arm is forward, so her left leg should be forward instead of her right leg. also, the split between them looks waaaay too far for how her upper body is positioned. also, the position of her upper body and the straightness of her hips are a little disjointed, as if they don't belong to the same person. keep in mind that everything affects everything in the body, that the positioning of the upper body is directly related to the position of the lower body. there's a crit for you. your faces are looking aaAAAAAAAWESOME as always, so keep working hard, bring the rest up to that level and surpass it with both! take care, yo!

Mr. Smile: Trying to draw lots, but still not spending nearly enough time on studies. Thanks for the encouragement!

    cgaddict: Thanks man!

iven: Thanks! All the digital stuff I do is in photoshop. I haven't had much time to try out a lot of other softwares. The brush I used was just a basic one with the opacity and flow set to pressure as well as the size jitter set to pressure with a minimum diameter set. Trying to mimic a pencil basically

purb: I'm still trying to make time to get together with the sketchgroup, work has just been taking up all my time. Thanks so much for the crits! It's exactly what I've been looking for. The first figure you mentioned was supposed to be in a cartoony style, but I do see that there are perspective issues. That mech/gun girl was all sorts of mistakes, thanks for catching it. In regards to the hand webbing issue, I'm not quite sure what you mean? Could I trouble you to elaborate? However because you made me review it, I noticed I've been drawing the first segment of the fingers much too short and too shallow in relation to the webbing. Thanks for the reminder to do more studies! I really appreciate it!

Just a quick doodle that I spent way too much time on. Fell into the trap of trying to polish something that was foundationally off. Gotta do more studies!

you know you're special when i break out the wacom juuuuust for you.

did a paintover for you to try and explain. it's less the webbing itself, or, the webbing only. you in general draw your fingers having a length from knuckle to knuckle that is 1/3rd the length of the entire finger. the actual length differs from each knuckle to the next: 1st knuckle (attached to the palm) to 2nd knuckle is 1/2 the distance of the entire finger. 2nd knuckle to third knuckle varies as per individual, i believe. but...webbing. webbing on the palm side is halfway between the 1st knuckle and the 2nd knuckle. on the backhand side, the split goes approximately halfway between the webbing and the 1st knuckle. so it's an uneven split. please see the diagram of the knuckle placement to see what i mean.

secondly, the fingers themselves have a gesture. breaking it up into big groups, the middle 3 fingers go together, and the thumb and the pinky are independent. going one step further, the middle and ring finger go together much of the time, as they share a common tendon. i would do some more, but i'm exhausted and must work on an important illustration tomorrow for my dad. we'll talk soon. you know, i COULD show you this stuff better IN PERSON...just food for thought.

    Thanks again cgaddict!

Purb! I really appreciate the paint over, it's very enlightening. I think my takeaway from this is that I've forgotten (or never learned) the porportions of the individual fingers. I can definitely see the wonkiness now, thanks again! Yes, I know! I've really got to get my ass out to the meet ups! Argh! Good luck with your illustration man, I hope you'll put it up so we can all check it out!

wow that's sweet, you have a friend where breaks you down the
proportions, that I can figure it out too

I agree with cgaddict, I could feel the situation where the Person is in,
very good. I love the Black and White stuff specially the women/ left.

Not that I could give you crits
with your life drawing but just for my self
as well, the nice gladiator sketch some how it feels funny to me with the
    balance
, would be interesting for me if you agree with that and figure out
with a rough sketch how it would be in balance if my eye is right.
I am doing that too with the nude models it always happens if I did not
put the gesture down etc....I love how you drew the sandals and the food !!

VERY GOOD............it motivates me to see your real life stuff....

I agree with iven, the gladiator is definitely falling. But I know its problematic sometimes, especially when one wants to make character be a part of the enviroment, and I really didn´t figure this out myself.
Love the last blackish sketches, I would really love to see the creature in the middle finished and colored. Really reminds me of something Bobby Chiu could have done . Cheers mate!
