great plain air!, i remember wanting to try it myself a year back but i could not see anything on the screen due to all the reflections, maybe was because it was an old laptop but you have anything "extra" you bring with you on the plain air trip to avoid getting reflections on your screen? keep up the good work!

As always, I appreciate your encouragement, guys.

@Snatti: Yeah, screen glare is always an issue. What I do is use an old record back with soldering wire threaded through the seams of the flap and mouth. That way I make a little laptop tent and bend the wire to suit my needs. I guess just carrying a flat-packed cardboard box would do the trick well enough. Also, finding natural shade is a bonus, but I have never managed to eleviate reflections completely. You might also try creating some useful colour palettes before hand. If you spent enough time painting with them indoors, you can generally second guess your colours when out and about. Hope this helps.

A little seascape done to get me in the right frame of mind for an evening trying to come to terms with the utter basics of ship rigging. I need to learn how to paint those bastards with a moderate amount of confidence!

Edit: Looks like I made some kind of mistake when uploading. Rewind and try again...

ahhhhh my eyes! Really beautiful work. The texture you create in your work is really intriguing. Love your sense of light and color as well. The way you captured the frothiness of the ocean water is incredible. Top notch stuff all around. Keep posting!

Just threw you 5 stars because it is a fucking crime that this only has 4 right now!

AMAZING stuff lately! Stunning really. This is some of the best stuff I've seen on the site in recent memory. Your landscapes are coming along super super well, with a great sense of colour and mood, and the right amount of detailing/texturing. I'd love to see you try your hand at some oils!

Anyways, keep posting dude, it's really inspirational.

Oh boy, you guys are far too kind. I really appreciate the encouragement, but bumping this thread to 5 stars is a most horrible trick to play on me. I really don't deserve it as I'm far too lazy and stuck in my ways, so now I feel like I'm in debt and have to earn those stars. If this is some form of reverse psychology to make me kick up my game, you lot are devious bastards!

@Andrew Sonea: I can't afford to start painting in oils at the moment, but it's certainly the medium I wish to embrace at some point in the near future. I recently dug out an old stash of acrylics, but painting plein-air with them is a real pain. I don't like lugging around a wet tray and water bottles, so I'm trying out palette knives and a very fast, loose approach. I'll post some stuff when I'm a little more settled.

@Nemome: Funny you should mention the 3DS, as this post is kind of a segue between some 3DS paintings and more recent PS work with the same theme. How are you finding Colors! on the 3DS with no pressure sensitivity?

    ----------------------------------

So here's a few paintings I did while beta testing the 3DS version of the Colors! app. They have a general theme that has been growing in my mind, and are possibly the best way to ease into some of my more recent explorations (which I want to start posting next) outside of the plein-air stuff. I have a folder on my hard drive called "Bedouin Punk" (I know, I know, it's probably cheesy, but I kind of like it). These were the initial scribbles I did that kind of gave me the idea to explore the notion further.

A little update just to keep things rolling. Trying to paint landscape from imagination using whatever I've learned from my plein-air stuff. Still bloody difficult as hell to get the feeling I want while sitting at home. I thought it would be a little easier now, after a few years in the field. In some ways it seems even harder. I don't like it.
