    Lord who ...?!

SKIP TO LAST PAGE FOR RECENT UPDATES

    Hey guys,
Nice to have you here I'm about to present a little collection of the stuff I recently did mainly for our student-projects at the Games Academy, Berlin. Hope you like it, if there are any critiques I'd love to read them!

(the Icedragon was done completely by mouse and my first digital painting at all ... The only thing I still like about it are the ice-effects ... )

    EDIT: Sketchbook-thumb

And another creep ... supposed to go with the big one above (concept for a tower defense adaption at our academy)
Guess I'll have to tweak the contrast value in the creeps right foot a bit ... but not today
    (Edit: I added a quiver ... and contrast )

    Yo, lord rainsuit haha...

Nice pics, like your pencil drawing a lot. For your digital pieces you might want to use some harder edges on the focus parts so they don´t look so fuzzy(and so need I haha).

And about the ice dragon, I think it´s amazing you did it with a mouse.

Hope to see you in my sketchbook sometime and tell me what you like and don´t like ofcourse...

Cool works here dude, You clearly have a handle on the value ranges / relationships, i'd like to see some specular highlights here and there. I think they would help pop the forms a bit more. Keep sharing ;-)

I came to this sketchbook because I liked your CoW entry (nice design and modeling of form), but I was immediately distracted by your vehicles. Wow! That's some sweet stuff!
I'm very impressed by your mechanical design skills, obviously. Your digital painting skills aren't quite at that level yet, but they're still good, and getting better.

Moai: Thanks, I really appreciate that!

Here is a little update on my "humaquila" ... I'm somehow stuck in details ... have to get rid of this but now that I did some of them it's hard not to do the rest like this ...

    Suggestions are welcome!

Hello again, Lordy. You asked for some advice on your digital paintings, and here I am.
For this most recent piece, the brushwork and modeling of form is going fine, but you need more contrast. Your lightest value is a somewhat light gray and your darkest value is a somewhat dark gray. Push it further. Add some vivid highlights and darken the shadows. That'll strengthen the image quite a bit, I think.
Here's a little factoid about value contrast that I got from James Gurney's blog. Say you have a ten step value scale, where 1 equals black and 10 equals white. For an object in direct sunlight, the values of the lit side of that object and the shaded side will be about five steps apart. For example, if the lit side of an object was at value #8, the shadow would be value #3. I don't know if this character is in full sunlight, but that little tidbit goes to show that the value difference between light and shade is often more than we think.
Also, I'd change the shadows of his shoulder and forearm armor so that they aren't exactly parallel with the outside edges of those objects.
Aside from those critiques, this piece is lookin' good. I like the subtle designs on his forearm armor, and the shading on his knuckle armor.
