Yay I didnt paint on my outline layer this time.I think a screen layer worked out much faster. Opacity extends the control. Merge down then pick from local colors.

I took the boys to the Mcdonalds play land for a few hours and I managed to sneak in some Hogarth, and Bridgman studies. I'm not very comfortable with pencils. Sorry again for the poor scans

    and a doodle...

Attempts at blending have not gone well. Painting with color is worse. I still need more practice with values

The color on that last female portrait was scarry, I tried to fix it but the reference was from a movie i was watching.

Im really bad at these environments but they are fun to make up.

Ive just been toying around nothing much done today, mostly been looking into maya and 3ds max.

Ok so after Jasons class today on color theory I did make an attempt but I just dont get it with photoshop. I just start confusing myself when I think about multiply and overlay layers. So I just did a quick line drawing and painted values. I wasnt getting anywhere for a long time but I kept playing and its starting to work out.

I can see why having good lines to begin with will save you loads of time.

This was originally done by Bushido. I really like the original and although I killed the anatomy Im happy with this one. This one took about an hour before I stopped.

I painted this at a pretty low resolution and it looks better than the ones I paint at 2500x3500

If I read his painting right, I saw warm highlights cool shadow. Again I dont know how to get photoshop to do what I want but this was close enough for the exercise. I just added some very desaturated color from the HSB palate on a seperate layer, setting the layer to color. I kept the brightness around the same levels I painted the values in.
My brain is melting from everything Ive learned in the last week.

    Cheers-

Ok Jason got me distracted with facebook and linkedin stuff.

Heres the start of a self portrait. going to make an effort to do more from life and more on paper. My stuff is looking very photoshopish

In this step Im using this flat brush in an effort to follow the form. Brushing in the direction the light flows into shadow. I missed a few angles though... bummer

    Zbrush is real cool.
