    Rocks

    Whoops, sorry for the hoard :>
    Here's one that I'm currently still messing with. I have never really tried to draw a background/scenery/anything other than humanistic organisms. I really hate mountains.
    I'd like to move it to the WIP section, but I'm not entirely sure how to go about doing that.

    Choose one piece you want critiqued and do a thread on that either here or the WIP section. Then start a sketchbook.

    Heep pushing your middle ground and background. Change their value, darker, not the same color rocks. Same idea but different with the rocks and water up front, try making them more photo realistic, water glittering, that will also help with depth, what is up close is in focus.

    Thank you, will do~ Thought the rocks looked a bit too same-same.

    The outline of the rocks in the back is distracting and takes away from the detail of the rocks up close and the water. I would say as soon as possible, change the top outlines to highlights (Paint over them)

    Also, smooth out the edges of the shadows on the rocks in the background. Those lines are sharper and crisper than the ones in the foreground which draws our eyes back there.

    I also feel that the mountains in the background are too parallel and feel wrong. Look at some pictures of mountains for reference. There are some rolling hills that do that, but it feels wrong here like that.

    Yeah, the mountains are dumb :{
    The rocks in the bg haven't been touched since the initial sketch(as well as the foliage lol) :> I definitely plan to render those jerks very soon~

    You might find yourself some texture brushes and try painting some rock like texture on the rocks in the front too. But that might force you to clean up the brush strokes in the water (which have great color by the way)

    Mmm, I doubt they make brushes for my version of Photoshop |3 (it's ancient) Maybe they do.. I'm not very "photoshop savvy" :B

    Oh... elements 3.

    Gotcha. I started somewhere around '95. I think that is a bit older.

    I tried the latest photoshop elements a month ago and you know what?

    I was COMPLETELY LOST! I have been teaching photoshop since 97 and I got stumped by elements. That is just wrong.
