let your pencil rendering follow the form of the object dont draw a straight line if the form requires multiple smaller lines the move with it. You wouldnt render a circle with long straight lines would you? just a reminder keep practicing![]()

Zorcron: mm I wouldn't say I'm in a comfort zone
Φ phil: cheers mate
Krato: Very true, I guess I just get paranoid about leaving gaps of white that I take some shortcuts, I'll keep an eye on thatcheers
I'm 16 now
Excuse the awfulness. My first acrylic self portraits from life, very much getting used to it all. Don't worry, I can see all the issuesI originally didn't want to post these because I just know someones going to point out all of the really obvious problems
pencil self-portrait

Well the first painting's a mudmask, but i like what you're doing with the second one.
Hey Sam
Happy birthday, I hope you had a great one.
Lovely final painting. Really very cool, big improvement with the face on it.
The traditionals are pushing along steadily too.
Great self portrait.
Keep up the great work bud
Happy birthday man. I really like the pencil self portrait. Nice lines!
Oh and the WIP from the last page kicks ass. Finish it!
In your life paintings, I'd say start of with some monochrome/greyscale studies to investigate values of the face more and not get caught up in trying to match the colours just yet. Your pencil work has gotten a lot stronger since I last checked in here, keep up the good work![]()

its good that your doin tradish stuff as well man, keep at it!
YES ACRYLICS YES !!! haha i agree with what Iolarnula about working with your paint mixing colors and learning about paint application are too very different
things that are easier dealt with seperatly
infact go with a monochrome sketch in the beginning then start working in your color on top of that if you are up to it start thinking about how you can
use an underpainting to your advantage with perhaps a complimentry color
keep it up i am looking forward to way more of these dont get scared off
push your self using super big brushes for as much as possible you will gain confidence fast with your application of paint
also everybody is in a comfort zone... the more you know it the better (that being said these last couple paintings im sure you are learning much more from then something you are more accustomed to)
working with acrylics i think you will start to see big improvements taking on a new medium

your better at acrylic then me!!! I can't stand them. I switched to oils. You may wanna try that medium as well if you don't have to much luck with acrylic. I gave up on them but you shouldn't!!!
My observational skills may be great but i said nothing about my drawing skills

Miles_: BOOM will do
My57: Haha its hardly down to luck, I've just used acrylics quite a few times before and done a large scale painting in it. This is just my first time actually doing life stuff and properly studying with it.
Acrylic self portrait, the far side of the face is kinda thin methinks
A sketch in the moleskine to wind down from revision, nothing big

good improvement on the last acrylic, if you can work the whole board and clean up the fuzzy edges even
if you use some really watered down paint just to sculpt the area it would be a lot less distracting
keep it coming man

OmertA: Cheers mate
Zorcron: Mmm i'm actually doing the acrylics in my sketchbook, i try and do some watered down values at first to get rid of white and make some basic form, is that what you mean? Cheers

Nice stuff Saaammu, figures look pretty tasty tbf, and I like the dude in the bottom left of the second image a lot, nice lines. One thing I'd watch out for on your rendering, is sometimes you can get a little patchy with your tones, keep the lines as close together as possible, excersize that delicate pencil control in your midtone work. anywho, get to workkkk!! Lookin goooood.
No more Dragon Age, it's time we face it Sam.
loosen up them figures they're a little on the stiff side. no more dragon age sam its time to face it. i guess your playing to much dragon age.
hi man ur doing great! nice sketches going on. a little tip with acrylics i would say use alittle more water in the paint. keep going![]()
Miles: Cheers man, I'll get on it
Krato: I'm off the Dragon Age now, don't worryyeah really need to mix up my figures.
no87: Cheers
This piece is finished, its not but i bore myself from hitting so many brick walls from ambitious ideas that I don't actually know how to achieve. Gonna work on something simpler and then get bigger.
Pencil studies, I need to stop feeling bad about posting theseneed to get over my ego, this stuff feels so rushed. Study from a photo
Stuff from life
Posemanics, in an attempt to get some looser poses. Need to get more hip/shoulder variations.

i think you should look at mr blondes or wesburts rendering style see what they did how they managed things as far as pencil rendering it would help. good stuff though dont get me wrong, just need to work on the rendering some more.
Hey man sorry to have neglected you sb for so long. Been so damn busy with school etc.
Anyway Love what you've been doing. Some really interesting sketches. Cool to see you getting into acrylics. I notice you're quite opaque with them. Try and use some more transparent layers to slowly build up colour. Have a look at this tut by Glenn Fabry: http://www.glennfabry.co.uk/workinprogress.htm
Love where that digi is going. Keep it up.
Hey there! Seems like hard working has been paying offimprovement is evident!
dont worry dudeyou'r getting there 'way sooner as you might think !
just keep doin' and studying the stuff you diggggggggggg yay \/
Krato: Yeah need to slow down, work bigger and have less gaps in rendering, cheers
jordyskateboardy: Mmm yeah a bit of planning and layering would save me a lot of time in acrylics, cheers man
Parsakoira: Thankyou
SnobbyOo: Thanks matey, thats the plan![]()
A current WIP, much simpler subject and composition but much easier to render the shit out of lol
a pretty mass effect sketch from mind
A Phil Hale study, sooo hard, he's a god
This was a large acrylic piece i did for school back in October, spent a few months on it. This was before the SPs and probably my first proper acrylic painting.

im going to have to echo what omerta said that phil study looks like fun, with the painting theres a little to much of the blue line thingseems sorta random tbh
Bloody amazing progress mr car. Love the digi man. Huge improvement. Great rendering of form. The blue rim light looks pretty awkward though. Try and have it hit only on one side. Phil Hale study looks neat as well. Keep on rockin'!
OmertA: Fun but extremely challenging, especially in pencilCheers man
Krato: Yeah other people have mentioned it, I'll either add more light through the trees or cut it downThanks
jordyskateboardy: Mr. Carr* Thanks matey
Marko Djurdjevic study, we have a month long school project in art with a 10 hour final painting at the end. My chosen subject is Storytelling, so basically just gonna study loads of covers and paintings and then make something cool for the exam. This picture was awesome to draw, the way the blood dripping forms shapes in the face is really great once you really look at it.
