    Sublimus: Thanks

    Man Made God: Hmm yeah forget about the simple rules for that :{

    rogerb: Thanks

Miles_: Thanks, I will give that a try. I usually never know when not to leave a line, maybe more life stuff will help that.

    Nettle_Mountain: Thanks

    lilnebo: Thanks

    Stuff from yesterday

Beginning sketch for a painting, trying to use cross contours and stuff to give me a better sense of 3dness when I paint.

Nice work man. As others mentioned, keep an eye on your lines. Do a lot of life drawing and line weight studies. You might want to work on getting a lighter hand too, cause i would avoid getting thick dark lines on most early sketches. Not that it's a bad thing, but you're pretty much taking a leap with possible errors for the rest of you progress on each drawing.
Anyway, you know what to do, so get to it !

    Bigfoot: Thanks..im too messy

DanielC: Will get a lot of life drawings of my brother done tommorow Thanks!!!

So I can pretty much narrow down from trial and error that I suck with lines, faces and my paintings aren't realistic. The solution to basically all of these is to practice more from life and photos. Will draw some hot ladies faces some time and life drawings and paintings and stuff. Just more studies

WIP Gonna change the hand thats lower down so it's not a light source. The face is retarded I'm not sure how to draw the nose without making her look like a goon. Need to study faces!

Yeheyehehe, I feel it happenening! You are improving and its awesome to watch haha! Daniel C had some awesome advice about drawing from life. As he said, you know what to do, so keep up this pace dude. As for the digital one, look up a reference you can use for the structure of the nose, bear in mind how the way the nose looks changes greatly with the angle of the head. T

his Sunday, sketchathon, it will happen.

Miles_: Reference seems to be a recurring solution lately, if only I wasn't too lazy to try and find it I have the internet and stuff, but finding a picture of something you need in the right angle and stuff can be annoying sometimes. I look forward to our sketchathon, it's been too long. We'll make artistic love to each other in a none gay way

Had a bit of an off day

    Hey Sam, lookin good sir,
just thought I would drop you a quick critique, you tend to flatten faces in 3/4 view, especially along the brow line

    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...5&d=1237846480

and the girl on the right in this

    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...6&d=1237846514

Make sure you really get the proportions to do with how the 'other half' of the face looks. Basically keep on workin dude, its really cool to see you progress

Ok Sam - finally I have sorted my guide to creating accurate scaled objects in perspective (and as a result accurate depth)

I will also be posting this in my own sketchbook soon - here is a link to further info on this method:

    Depth tutorial

(found it after spending hours working the method out myself - fun though!)

    Hope it all makes sense

Have a good explore around this method and have fun!

    Cheers

Lionese: Thanks but ..I'm not a girl lol

Miles_: Thanks, I hadn't realised I was sortof drawing the features onto a flat surface when it came to the side hidden by the nose in 3/4. See you soon.

The7Artist7: Thankyou so much, very very very helpful. I like that the technique can be used freehand aswell if you just want to get your ideas down. With the tutorial, the 2 vp part seems kindof confused with the horizon guide line, is the horizon guide necessary or just a quick extra? It's quite late, but I'll read the other tutorial you linked to for more info tommorow. Thanks!

Imagination, trying to form figures from sides i wouldn't usually use... I discovered my lines really suck when I do this, but it's just a confidence thing I guess.

Errmm the guy going over the wall isn't meant to be part of the perspective thing, was just playing with decreasing distances after I drew the guy.

I'm not sure if I should do loads more studies now, loads more figures from imagination or maybe some finished painted pieces? I don 't really have any finished stuff really, might do some more work on that girl tommorow. I reckon I'll change most of it though, it feels too saturated and cartoony. And I should do fineliner stuff to help the lines..

Wow, Sam!!! You've come a LONG way since page 1!!! Good work.

You're doing the right things. Keep up with Bridgman - he's a good dude and won't steer you wrong. Just remember to study his forms and masses, and not his rendering technique. You're trying to learn the volumes of the body, how it twists, connects, and so on... don't worry so much about trying to make your Bridgman studies look like he drew them, but place your attention and effort into understanding the simplicity of his strokes as he draws and conveys the form!

    Keep it up.

What I got up to yesterday. Couldn't update because I was watching The Shining till midnight..it scared the shit out of me. Loved the atmosphere around the hotel in it.

More work on this chick...still slow progress. I lower the transparency and drew over it so I know whats wrong with it now. Like her muscles arm and having no ass.

VERY nice progress. Love your avatar....

The last painting looks very cool. You got that texture pretty well --- my weakest point.

About the painting in progress. The shading below the breasts doesn't look too right. Anyway, it's just kinda strange. But, anyway, awesome idea. Can't wait to see how it turns out~

WOOOW man. I've been busy with school test etc and i get back to your sketchbook and see this major imrpovement man. YOur pencils are really improving, both in clearness and in line quality and your starting to get the hang of painting. But what I'm missing in your painting is believability. You can see you know how to draw with lines but in your faces you should start adding more reddish cheeck more yellow forehead that sort of stuff. So do some photo digi studies and really look at the colorshifts in a face. For the rest man you are kicking ass. Keep it up!

the structure in the background looks good, perhaps remove the figure and chuck in some more abstractish shapes, could turn into an interesting landscape. good to see ya busting out the hogarth studies, remember to concentrate on your lines as well as the thing you're drawing, will pay dividends in the future. so yeah, promising, keep working.
