quick no ref landscape w/ figure. On these last two I've been trying to keep my layers organized as strongly suggested by Whit in his last two video tut., and it does help being able to easily edit or add things in the backround

What brush did you use for post #12? Great stuff here, I like it a lot.

    Hi victor,

I am very impressed by your great artworks here in this forum. The diversity of your skills is stunning.
Actually I found you through your 'absurdity' comics at zuda.

Maby you like to post some of them to the plattform I programmed together with other comic-artists:

    http://www.toonsUp.com

Its quite new on the web, but has already over 260 international artist members.

Your style would perfectly fit and I know that a lot of the toonsUp-folk will love it :-)

    Greetings from berlin,
    Martin Sander (made)

    sat updt.

WickedEdges- Thanks , for the comment, I used a custom made brush just looked at some pictures of tree's and made a shape with the lasso tool that resembled the randomness of leaves, then I used it for the shadow area's also painting with the the brush on "erase" mode randomizing the shapes some more. I don't know how to post "brush" files themselves but I may be able to post some images of it, if you're that interested, but you should be able to make one of your own in a min. Thanks for the props.

Made-Wow, thanks for the comment, can't believe you'd look me up thru zuda! Glad you actually registered Ca.org is a great community for int. artists of any medium. I'll stop by and check out your site. I'm fairly busy so I don't know if I have time for another posting site, but I'll look into it, cheers.

Okay SOoooo I gave up trying to make a "inkBrush" in ps. that copies inking traditionally with a sable brush. So I thought I'd give it a go trying to make a Photoshop brush that imitates inking with a crowquill an ink nib. I set the angle direction to follow the rotation on my 6D art wacom pen. So that I can use it like a real Crow quill this is my first try with it. Still looking for a possible style to create comics in purely in photoshop. This may be too detailed for a 2 page a day schedule , but then again maybe I should look for a 1 page a day production rate.... This is small like 2 inches or so at 300 dpi , so about the size of small panel on a page. There's also a tiny bit of "paper" texture on it to make it look less digital.

hey man! good stuff here, I quite like the panel with the "It isn't that simple" comment, I think there is a lot of potential for it to be used as a comic.

I would like to see some longer studies in here, maybe spend a few hours on a self portrait, or do a very detailed master study... anything!

    keep it up man!

    2009

So sorry I haven't updated, been busy, wish I could elaborate on some of these sketches, a couple are different tries at starting the same story , searching for style I for a comic with a completely digital workflow.Currently the closest I have settled on is a style somewhat similar to Coro's working method in the storyboard MB videos, so b&W then color overlays. Comics is a game of time , yeah that hand is wrong or the perspective is a bit off but the idea I want to get to is, make the next panel better, move on. I'll try and expound more later.
DanielC-arghh You're one my inspirations! Thanks for stopping by

    heres a small update

    forgot these

sara b had a contest for designing her next tour poster I saw but was busy and since their was no pay i decided to do it if I could fit it in. Really wanted to make it like the old turn of the century french poster Toulouse-Lautrec and all that but by the time I got to the final colors, post inks I had only about an hour. so the final color's /text were very low quality , but time to move on, also I lost so or whatever , had some fun inking with my brush !

Things coming along pretty nice , but you should ease down on the colors , on some of them the intense tone ruins the hole work , i saw some witch had some trees in them and kinda ruined the hole idea... that or find a way around that is the most courageous option

    hey victorb,

just dropping a line to check in since i'm pretty bad about leaving comments in people's books.

that binder full of layout thumbnails is great! i've tried the same thing before, but i never really caught on to it. comics definitely is a different beast than just drawing an image, or even storyboarding for that matter. and, like you said, it just isn't that simple. i'm like you in a few ways--i dig the storytelling and composition a lot.

about a year and a half ago, i was pretty fortunate to meet john watkiss and get 7 or 8 lessons from him. unfortunately, his wife died from a long and excrutiatingly painful battle with cancer. john was devastated but hasn't stopped painting and drawing. anyway, his ideas on composition are a gigantic influence on me. a really great comics example of his work is the graphic novel "ring of roses." armed with nothing but some sharpie markers and stacks of typing paper, he is abs-o-fucking-lutely incredible. if you get a chance to buy a copy, please do it. you won't regret it. john was part of the scene in the UK that produced V for Vendetta, Watchmen, and other things along those lines.

back to your stuff... i see a lot of improvement. back in the 2/5/2009 post there were a few panels with different camera angles. and a few posts back another downshot on a piano onstage. keep doing these!!! crazy camera angles are really important to practice.

another exercise my teacher suggested: pick any action. for example, a flying martial arts kick. now draw four shapes maybe 5-7 inches big... circle, triangle, square, star. now draw a flying kick inside of each of those. it will definitely be difficult, and to get the figure to fit into each one of those shapes, you'll probably be forced to change the camera angle, add props like flying hair, scarves, belts, etc. but the cool thing is that you'll learn how to invent a figure in a given space--something that will happen a lot when you lay out comic pages.

anyway, i'm gonna split for now. but like i said, you're showing a lot of progress, man. keep it up! thanks for your support on my thread too.

    chris

Thank CCsears, No worries mate I feel like I'm not on a regular update schedule, right now. I'm re-organizing trying to get better figure its more important to me to try and get better and maybe post a little dump once a month. You're comments are definitely apreciated, I love John Watkiss I'm more familiar with his painting and concept work, though I am aware he's done comics. Thanks for the recomendation I will definetely be on the lookout for "ring of roses" The excercise tip is greatly apreciated I will try to incorporate this into my practice. Thanks again for stopping by I've been loving where you're going with you're work.

edit-just so I don't have a reply with no art here's a really quick sketch based off a picture of our resident french madame -Clochette

i'd like to throw some colors on it,later when I have the time.
