You had some nice referenced images in the last sketchbook, as well as drawing improvement...the Age of Rockets was funny.

How come you keep starting a new sketchbook though...its generally better for people to be able to look over your old work! then they can easily see if you arent progressing in certain areas.

Jakers- thanks for the reply, as far as your question. I guess for the same reason you buy a new sketchbook , a new start? I haven't started 3 skbk one right after the other, #1's first post is 2004, #2 I started just under a year ago I just felt like a fresh start. Speaking of which anyone know how I can make my sig smaller I know I should be able to make the words themselves (sketchbook #1 ) into links

anyhow here are some other sketches, I just got a new pc and was trying ps on it still need to find some brushes and make sure to transfer them, but so far runs good can finally use Mr.Blonde's brushes without fear of making my system crash.

Lately I've been really inspired by Mr.Delicious's sketchbook, I'll probably upload some Character designs for a personal project tommorow

Makes sense to me! I just wasnt sure, I didnt go back and check out your first book. Thanks for visiting mine.

As for your signature question - I believe you just highlight what you want to be the link 'Sketchbook #2' then press the insert link button. what you highlighted should now be applied to the URL you enter.

Looks like you're having some fun with brushes do you have a few that you used on the trees in the character image. suggestion foliage is often enough and i like what you've done there. I would offset the character a bit so its not dead center, and you might concider making him larger. Say push him to the bottom right a bit, and do something on the left to balance the composition...mind you, how you have the sword might be a great tool for that already

Do you have a link to the brushes you mentioned? I find its always worth experimenting with new tools to create your own library from. see you!

    Here's today's update

just another enviorn for now I'll try to upload some chrctr designs later

    again ref used

Jakers-Thanks for the tip I'll try it out, also for the comp tips, since its just a sketch I don't think I'll go further. As far as the folliage I just used some of I belive M@u's custom brushes Just do a search for him I believe he posted them here. I used that to lay a base, I also try'd to make some maple leaves brushes of my own, while it didn't look like leaves to well it did work to just break up shapes which is what I wanted to do. If you look straight up of the knights helmet and just to the left you can barely make out some more refined leaves (thru the atmosphere) you'll notice they have 3 levels the dark and midtone like the rest but also a a slight highlight, this was me trying a technique to use on illustration, it seems to work ok. The idea was to lay down the size midtone and shadow using custom brushes and then to go in and paint in bunches, mostly with just adding the highlight. Thanks for stopping by.

    - Oh and the other brushes I mention are the ones included in Whit Brachna's outdoor winter enviornment Download (on the banner up above) the winter mountain scene, they're great.

Sorry about no chrctr designs last night. My scanner has no drivers for Vista, but I had found a go around around that that worked on my vista laptop. Good right? Well I forgot my new desktop is vista 64 bit so no fly! Anyway for today at least here's a morning warm up "Fashion" instead of landscape today.

    J W Waterhouse

So here's a Waterhouse study, Well sort of more of a study of a study, not all that faithful to the original, just wanted something to to try out some new PS Brushes I had just created. I have to say I'm relatively happy with how the brushes work.

    oils

some step by steps of yesterdays Self Portrait, actually like some of the middle stages better than where I ended, I lost some of the form. But at least I participated. The other is a oil sketch I've been playing with. Just a Really a quick sketch w/ charcoal then quick acrylic wash then Oil glazes, just finished putting "blue" glaze over the "red". It has Alot more color in real life flashes of the red yellow(acrylic) shining thru parts of the blue where I rubbed it out... Next weekend plan to try some opaque painting on it

Bears won today! Hope everyone had good weekend

oh and I plan to mess some more with the sp too

p.s. all photos taken with my cellphone

Good stuff going on man. I'd definitely keep doing studies and work from imagination on the side. Kind of like filling up your head while practicing all those things from memory, so you can really explore the shapes and things that you've learned. And remember, stick to planes and simplicity !

Well bud, there is a lot of good effort happening the past couple weeks! You made a few helmets in particular pop out nicely (the 2 on the middle left, silver and faint green) I think because they have the best descrived volumes.

With the jedi character (even though you probably wont touch it again), I think the scene needs more contrast as you build up your forms...I would also watch the scale of different elements, the panels on the door look high if he were to walk up to him - picky, but its important for the figure to be a scale reference to us Keep up the hard work...I missed self portrait day

Matt Gamer-Thanks for the comments and encouragement!
Jakers- Noted! Thanks! ( Daniel's Helmets were easy to color because the volume/forms were already so completely worked out , yeah)

Another quick post for today, essentially comp studies more related to film/story boards 1st batch from ref. the book I was looking at recommends these as an excersize.2nd batch just from my head, hope to continue doing more from my head and from movies to get storytelling exp. My ultimate goal being to apply this knowledge to COMICS. You can see me mess, with how another color will affect the color scheme.

THANKS again for all the comments!

    Cool stuff man !
the colors choices you make could use a bit more attention though. Look at references, take a notebook and note all the colors you see on everyday life, do quick studies of how things work, how saturation, overbright areas, color variations etc occur. Its all about mechanics man. Once you understand something, keep exploring it and use it for something else.
    Keep working man !

    Thurs-DAyy

Daniel C-Thanks for the C&C much appreciated Time to get Serious

For now just a little update on the fashion study

just worked on the skin a little, But I'm probably going to start the skin over.
As I mentioned its referenced from a fashion mag spread . So as I'm working on it I'm realizing there's got to be some lighting tricks cause there's some weird things going on. As it appears sooo dark and the skin looks soooo Fair, I first thougth the skin can't be that light, value wise its a trick but no it turns out her skin at certain parts goes verrry white, yet theirs some weird reflected light in the shadows and even "bounce " light .... theirs a lot going on.

SO now the skins shadow/midtone/highlight relationship is Wrong value and color wise, its hard cause she seems blown out but mostly just the face..

    Will post again later
