Here's some coloured digital stuff I've done last month.

A friend got into Pokemon in the past couple of months and after watching a few episodes I had to do this:

I like designing silly hats! If I have the time there will be more Haturdays. And if I figure out how, I may actually make some of these a reality. (Don't hold your breath, it's taking me three weeks to hem a pair of pants.)

I really like your style. Especially the one with the woman and hat. I think that's your best one out of the three because there is some more value added to it.

Great figure drawings too. Watch your heads though. Occasionally you draw your heads a bit too big compared to the body. I saw it the most in post#318 with the man sitting.

@Istmin52: yeah, that one life drawing session was just the worst for proportions. I'll be concentrating on better measuring in the future. Thanks!

Man, I'm about a month behind posting on my blog and six weeks behind on posting here. I feel like I've done about a billion things since then, although of course I haven't because it's been Christmas and it's hard to get things done when you spend all your time visiting people and eating.

    Anyway. Here's some journal sketches:

    Name: nov14-lrt.jpg
Views: 325
Size: 42.4 KB Name: nov14-zenaris.jpg
Views: 323
Size: 105.2 KB

    Name: nov24-pub-sketch.jpg
Views: 582
Size: 86.0 KB

Right now I'm finishing up a traditionally-inked late Christmas gift for a friend and man -- I am going cross-eyed from the inking. I don't know whether my chair is too short for the drafting table or the light is too bright or what, but after about an hour of staring at the lines my vision starts to blur. It's rather unpleasant. And I'm listening to the radio while I do it so I will probably forever associate Rod Stewart and the Eagles with not being able to see right.

Every year my friend hosts an ornament-painting party and this year I designed some of them. Here are the two that I actually managed to paint:

    Name: ornaments_goblins.jpg
Views: 292
Size: 156.8 KB
    Name: ornaments_lady.jpg
Views: 293
Size: 126.9 KB

The goblins still need a bit of a touch up and some varnish. The elf lady turned out pretty well, but if you ever go around painting ornaments to put on a Christmas tree... don't make them green. Or if you do, make them elven snipers, at least then they'll be invisible on purpose.

I have a bunch of things in the works right now because my husband convinced me to narrow my focus more and really concentrate on putting out children's illustrations and turning my portfolio over. It was such good advice that I'm actually following it.

In the meantime, though, a couple of finished things. This is something I started last January and coloured up for a lark:

And this is my Christmas present to my ornament-painting friend:

I used one of Faestock's stock photos for the dress folds.

Hey, it's that time of the year again! Time to stalk strangers on the net during Hourly Comic Day.

Actually it was yesterday. I never have enough of these things inked the day of to actually post them.

And that's it for Hourly Comics Day! One of these years I'm going to have to do something exciting. If only it had been on the 31st, I could have drawn my gynecologist appointment. As it was, all you get is some hares and me drawing comics half the day.

Thanks Black Spot! I love pen & ink. It's very meditative.

    ---

Some journal sketches from the pub and the last Urban Sketchers sketchcrawl I attended. We went to a local craft market. I was very taken with the dress, and the nice vendor took a photo of my sketch when I was done.

This year I seem to be going out to sketch on location instead of going to figure drawing. The local Urban Sketchers group is a friendly bunch and I enjoy going out with them. Plus I think it's good for me to do more environment sketches because I am so lazy with detail. But I'll have to go back to figure drawing at some point, just so my graphite skills don't completely atrophy.

Thanks! The inks turn out nice but I'm going to have to work on my accuracy.

    ---

From last month's Sketchcrawl. We were sketching at the University. I always sketch at the Uni so I wandered off into a few nooks I don't usually get to.

I was going to sketch some giant aloes in the pedway, but they had been removed and replaced with planters full of random plants. With plaster heads hiding in them. 2 weeks later the plaster heads were gone. Oh Fine Arts students. You are so weird.

Got all the way there, then discovered that I had dumped all my usual inking pens out of the pencil case. Luckily I had a few PITT brush pens and one of the fat pigment liners hiding in the bottom of the bag.

Hey, mate, this old stab looks very good! It seems to be deep and natural! I'm expecting to see its updating.

By the way, what hatred caused you to carry on the vengeance of dumping all your usual inking pens... If it's due to a careless, I would be disappointed. lol I like shocking stories...XD

Not as bad as when I wanted to do life drawing with oil - took everything except the blooming paint. Well, it turned out to be a happy accident. Loving the recent sketches.

@untier - No vengeance, I'm afraid. Only that I own three bags and the pens are always in the wrong one. Thank you for the kind words about the painting, I really will have to finish it now.

@Black Spot - It is rather difficult to paint without the paint! Did you have to borrow paints? The nice thing about oils is that you can borrow a dollop of paint from someone else and it'll stay workable until the end of the class.

For my first painting class the materials list was completely wrong. It asked that we bring canvas, a round brush and a tube of yellow ochre. The instructor (a very nice man but extremely vague and disorganized) was completely puzzled as to why we were all sitting there with nothing but tubes of yellow ochre. It turned out that he wanted us to paint on hardboard, using black and white, with a flat brush. Luckily he had enough art supplies to go around.

In March I started messing around with shapes and things trying to make some surreal art I might develop into some finished works. (Pardon the crap sketches.) I decided that I liked a few of these enough to work on them a bit more. Over April I played with some colours for the flower maiden with the bee, and a few days ago I rearranged the composition, cropped it, and started working on a pencil crayon final which looks pretty decent so far.

If it works out I will probably work on more of these. Either the Cherry Slug Cone or one of the newer, as yet unposted designs.
