Zou Thanks Definitely working on both shading and expressions (the expressions sheet for the weekly study was a great challenge, I shall do more of them) so thank you I don't know if I could do a tutorial, I could try, I tried to make a sheet of my process with Tim Burton but it didn't come out that organised I guess it wouldn't harm for me to put together all the notes and things I've picked up and try and put it down so it makes sense

Anthis Hiya, yes I tend to overthink too I hear you there, I don't think it's a bad thing, trouble with me is that I procrastinate too long and lose the momentum. I also don't do enough drawings and initial sketches, I end up feeling like I could have pushed my ideas a lot further most of the time (I do tend to get bored quickly if I stay on one subject too long) I think if I look at more than one character trait that will definitely help to make things more interesting, maybe put a limit on it to 2 or 3 like Otto (e.g stupid, vain, wants to be dangerous)

Thanks for the comps on the caricatures, Jodie was a quick sketch I like her face too, very difficult to get though. Hopefully I'll get some time/inspiration to get on with the challenge list, it's good fun but difficult to think of things lol.

Blackspot You really think she'd dig it? I might do Thanks, and yeah, it's going to be tough to try and keep the character consistent, I might try it as a simple comic face/or do a disney character so it's a bit easier.




update Finished the commission for my mum, a couple of character designs from crimsondaggers.com random character generator. I didn't do many variations but it was a nice warm up . A quick sketch of Peter Jackson to finish...

That last one looks great. You've really got a knack for faces. I think it'd help if you paid a little more attention to the anatomy of the rest of the body (looking at the fairy in the top post of the page, the leg anatomy could use some work), but you've got faces down almost perfectly.

Hi Umbravita, thanks very much and yes, I should really pay more attention on anatomy, I can get quite lazy with it the fairy is supposed to be a mixture of insect and human I really need to do more studies of insects as well. thanks again.

the7artist7 Eh up!! *high five* and "hell yeah! I will kick caricature butt soon!" Those expressions were a lot of fun but difficult for some of the more obscure ones, like incredulous and sarcastic (they seem very similar) I can't wait to see your take on it.



update I've been knitting like a demon this last week getting stuff ready for our xmas market at work and it turned out quite successful, here's the santa and rudolph dolls...



After an nice little break from drawing I felt all fired up again and decided to tackle Brad Pitt and came up with this tiny little glimpse into my process...

It was suggested that I do a caricature themed SSG topic and I think I might have something fun.

Based on my last post and this tutorial by Tom Richmond (who is 'the man') http://www.tomrichmond.com/blog/2008...-the-5-shapes/

The study will be to take a celebrity and try and push the geometric shapes as much as you can, maybe even go as far as a cubist style, but try and keep the likeness as much as possible.

Cool caricatures. You've really got a knack for them. Peter Jackson is prob one of my favorites. I also love the dolls you made. They're so cute.

Just keeping pushing yourself. Your weaknesses showed through a bit from doing the character designs from crimsondaggers with your anatomy but that is just something that will get better over time.

I did Blackadder and Melchett ages ago and they turned out quite popular and also I watched the series again recently, I still cry at the ending.

zou Hiya thanks very much, and the great thing about the technique I used was it's very, very fast to paint I did all 4 in one night, it probably shows, but they are still WIPS atm.

update computer is on the blink, kaput...a goner! the upside is it's been giving me signs for a while so I've backed everything up and I'm saving up for an upgraded rig plus I have been wanting to get away from photoshop and get back into paints again, and also to read those papery things I've been collecting that are gathering dust on my bookshelf.

The Robin Tunney caricature is great And the nose warmer seems to be quite a helpful complement The last character looks great, but is difficult to read what is he wearing under the coat.. is it armour?
