Those characters are improving vastly.

Hope to see you more often at the spartan camp! Don't be fooled its 'hardcore' title, it's really just an easygoing exercise.

Back on the characters - the green fairy really is good. Dizon covered some good points. About that lineart - Since it's a stylized challenge you can probably still have lineart, or even empathize it. I'm guessing it should still be functional, not just sketch leftovers. I know little of stylization, so just consider this food for thought ;P.
Either way, the hands show me you can do without the lines - they look great. On the contrary, there's an odd (looks like a seam line!) line on (her) right shoulder that's not needed. Hope I'm somehow driving my point home.
I can nag forever but I should not do so on this piece. Wonderful pose and strong image, and I think visible improvement.

Makeover looks a lot better. Perhaps you ran out of time though, blending and general rendering is more sloppy than the green fairy. Or do you have trouble with blending and combining the different colors? because the fairy piece was fairly monochromatic, and this one is very colourful. Or is it the realistic attempt? Probably just little time, but you be the judge. I do like the concept, especially her secondary weapon, good thinking.

Nice going on the amazon warrior - like the hair especially. You cought (dictionary sais this word is spelt wrong, but it's correct, right?) some very typical characteristics in this one.

Love those sketches, nice to see some early progress in there too.

That last cate blanchett caricature is an interesting one. It's a clear caricature, but seems to be without 'bad' intentions. You can still recognize the beautiful cate blanchett in there, just with exaggerations. Hope that makes sense. Lips seem viewed somewhat from below, rest of the piece is a sideview, looks a little odd. I think you can hide a little more saturated colours in there, like in the ref. To give her more life. Great ref by the way. Awaiting the final!

Anyway thanks, On the Green Fairy I wasn't sure what style I was going for, had a 50's pinup sorta cartoony but still realistically rendered idea but I think you and Dizon are right that the lines don't really need to be there.

Erica was a bit rushed and I just didn't have time to find the reference I needed. I need a wider choice really, will have to invest , was going for a bit of a murky atmosphere as well al'a Planet Terror but yeah, I needed more time to really pull it off.

Cheers for the comments as well on the amazon I was pleased with how the hair came out. As for Cate, again, I will keep your suggestions in mind when I finish her...I might stretch her out a bit more

Come to think of it, Angel. I think you could have gone for a more graphic approach ala Alphonse Mucha. So you still could have kept the lines but maybe change it to a different color to fit more with the color of the skin tone, clothing, etc.

Having some free time (unfortunately it's due to redundancy, but hay gotta make best of a bad situation)

Decided to have another go at the Absinthe Fairy...working through a slightly different layout and colour scheme for her hair.

Worked up my new Absinthe Fairy..added some other colours to balance it out a bit, and new wings, didn't like the rush job I did before. Want to put quite a bit of work into this one...I'll see how far I can get.

Niiiiice! I think the simplified expression is better! Have you thought of using red for her hair? I can imagine it right now and it looks cool. I'm just saying because green and red complement each other.

about the fairy absinthe:
tough subject you've got here: final illustration !
it seems the illustration is at stage where you could use some ref. even with things you know (figure, hair, water...)

if you intend to push rendering further, here is some points:

-his shoulder is the most rendered part (look at the face)
if you look for simplicity, you could use the hand as example to render the rest like them.
-you could render an octogonal cup (where she pour the liquid) to get some shiny highlight.

Thanks zou you nailed it on the head with regards to using reference now, I'm a bit clearer on what I need and I'm just gathering all that up. Good point about the refining on the hand and I will see what a different jug looks like

Here's an update. Started refining her face, still needs some tweaking, the ref is from a 50's cheesecake pin up painting..and not sure what type of wings so I just doodled some butterfly wings to see what they look like and experimented with colour/effects...also changed her hair colour to a more reddy purple to contrast with the green and she doesn't look too much like Poison Ivy now, but might change it again..don't know.

The face is looking great. For the hair, I think I liked it more when it was just purple. I'm not sure about the light coloring because it's too strong and getting too much attention.

Maybe add some bubbles on the Absinthe bottle?

one point: i think the body should less saturated (or perhaps less yellow on it)

The studies are really nice but I think you've lost the proportions on the last sketch. I think the curve of the spine is swooping down too much. The previous 2 before that are much better proportionally, and I also like the stylization you applied.

Aw..thanks I miss not being here regularly...started singing with a band a couple of months ago and that's 2-3 nights a week practice..plus I have to drink beer on another night...and then do housework (pooh!) so I've not had much time, I will have to invent a machine to stop time...that and teleportation and I'm sorted

Thanks for comments on the horse...the yellow paper is textured pastel paper and I used conte pastels for a change. I think I'll stick with pencil though.

I like the glowing light you get on that last picture. The light laying across the face and the shirt feels just right. And the way it light up the yellow/orange top is really nice. Post more! I like looking at your stuff.
Horse anatomy study is great too. I've been around horses my whole life and your studies feel right all around.
