Love the pencil sketches for queen of serene! Seems like you settled for an oriental theme early on in the process. I can still see it in the dress pattern (nice one) of the final image, but the headgear seems different stylistically. Hard, straight shapes all of the sudden.

Also- more moleskine drawings please! Those are great.

Perhaps you should try and experiment with digital painting on a higher opacity. Pick colour/values carefully and use some firm strokes. Less washed-out-drybrushing-kind of painting. It's a good exercise.

Hi Anthis Thanks for the comments. The queen of serene was just me doodling some ideas without really planning, I kept changing my mind and the helmet wasn't feeling right. I should have a more structured plan when doing character designs like; research, thumbs, refine idea, orthographic view, find reference then do the picture, that might help me nail down designs early and have it figured out when I get to the painting stage. Thanks for the painting tip, I shall definitely keep that in mind.

That's from a dip pen, right? Which kind? It seems nice & clean.

Not sure the hatching shows the shape too well on the inside of the hair (seems to flatten out). Nice caricature.

Hi PSage - Thanks for the feedback, I noticed it wasn't working too It's a Pentel refillable brush pen, no pesky dipping involved

Another caricature warm up of my mates mum and some lighting studies from memory to see if I'd retained stuff I'd picked up. And coloured in Lucia.

your chow entry is very nice, but honestly the second image is better than the third (the one you chose)
i like also the pencils and the last red lips girl , but you should put some textured background, that way the smooth drawing will show up

Thanks zou I know I wish i'd just stuck with that concept, or even one of the other sketches from before, nevermind. I might revisit that character for a fantasy piece for my portfolio. Ooh never thought of textures for the background on Lucia, I will have a play. Thanks

Studies watercolour, of something non-human for a change quite enjoyed it so I might try and do at least one inanimate object every day.

Wow that lady sure know how to unleash it! Love that video. Thanks. I almost cried watching it, but then it lags at around 3:13... for um, some serious facial glitch ... (damn crappy connection!) oh well, ... Love her cartoon you did too. Cooler highlight would work better though, given the warm blacks and I think it would match and blend nicely with the cool background. Just my two cents

and yay! you do watercolors again! I'm anticipating for more. They're looking good so far. Especially love the texture on that twig and stones (the second pic).

Witcrack She sure does! and , lol, yeah she pulls some funny faces , I recommend her album Music from a Farther Room, so beautiful, it's one of those that gets better every time you listen to it. Thanks for the suggestion on the lighting, i shall give that a go. And yeah, it feels good to paint in real life again, thanks

Studies Another watercolour, didn't have as much time today, but it made me economise the brush strokes, the orange pebble is a bit too saturated. And Milla Jovovich.

Sketch dump and a blast from the past My folks moved house recently and my mum found a book that I copied page for page when I was 6 (or thereabouts) it's from a Jungly Jim book but I can't remember the title and can't find it anywhere, I remember loving the story. I think it was about Jim worrying about Jumbo because Jumbo appears to be ignoring him but then in the end he finds out that Jumbo is just deaf, erm..or something like that.

Also an oil painting I did when I was 15 for my Grandma, some doodles and a sketch

Parsakoira Thanks mate! I found them hard to get back into, I messed up alot I find not putting too much water on my brush helps me control it better but the best bits are when it does it's own thing and the unplanned bits usually come out looking nicer than then planned.

zou Thanks It taught me alot, I still remember how much fun it was to draw and how I didn't want to draw another tree for ages afterwards lol.

Gogo Hahahaha yeah! I was looking at a lot of Alberto Ruiz and J.Scott Campbell stuff before I drew it. His blog is pretty cool...http://processjunkie.blogspot.com/. Thanks too I'm so glad she kept that book. She found some dolls that I knitted as well, one was a butcher clown and she works in a butchers and it's now in the window, which is really cool!

    Andres Thanks very much

    Smileface Thanks very muchly too

Tried colouring the little girl doodle just with overlays and a little painting, I quite like the effect.

Edit: then just sort of experimenting with a border, reminded me of a quilt.

zou Hi, and thanks I was reading about David Levine and I think it influenced the style. You're right thanks, his legs are too much to the right, he was a bit all over the place and I drew it whilst he was moving, I tried to get the gesture but it didn't work out too well.

Feil Magnus Thanks very much and no problem it's a good design

Tom Waits Trying a different approach with a big soft lead to start with so I don't get bogged down in detail too soon.
