Hi Idas Thanks very much I will be doing some more studies this week, I'll put animals on the list.

Quike hiya, and thanks muchly. Yeah it's supposed to be some sort of gothic patterned armour but I made it more like a pattern on his shirt in the end, I'll add textures onto my study list too.

    update
My computer is running for now, but only til the weekend had to borrow a motherboard and memory from my fella's work (he fixes computers, which is very handy) I'll hopefully have it working full-time again soon.

Anyway took full advantage of having Photoshop back..oh how I have missed you (I'm not hugging my computer, I swear)

    couple of quick studies...

George? Not sure. It may be that he doesn't that a distinctive face to start with.

I hope where you work lets you advertise your skills - it doesn't hurt to ask.

Hiya Blackspot - Yeah, he kind of has a big nose and chin, but not really, I think that's why I did him pulling a face. I'll work on doing some different expressions, maybe that'll work better. Thanks for the feedback. My work are quite encouraging about us advertising other skills, which is nice of them.

update - Got to borrow another motherboard for over the weekend and hopefully next week (maybe longer, got to do some bartering), so here's another photo study, getting more out of my comfort zone, quite enjoyed it...

I love all this variation in studies and exercises, and mediums too. I'd say that's a real good thing. For instance looking at the blackadder caricatures I noticed how important that portion of clothing is. So nice job on the material studies. The leather coat has some good distinct hard edges as well. Your value control is getting pretty good too, I noticed especially in that Robin Tunney piece. Also- loving the crimsondaggers characters. Good stuff, nice to see you doing some of those!

Something that struck me is how many of your works lack a background. Or perhaps "setting" is more appropriate? Think it can really add something though. Like many of of Kruger's caricatures have no elaborate background but they do have a certain background colour that can create a mood or contrast. Or strong shadows that would hint at stage lighting. Stuff like that. Just food for thought, maybe.

If you're going for a night club feel maybe you could use intensely coloured lights to bring out the club feeling

    Nice job

The background is better Now the foreground needs deeper shadows and colour highlights

the watercolor girl is great (leg are short though)
, i am curious how u shade with watercolor,: do u lay the color then blend it with cleaned brush (with a bit of clean water) or do with the same brush (that has the color) ?

the caricature portrait is nice, but u could add more texture to coloring (it seems it lost a bit from the pencil)

    good luck with nexts

Hi zou - Thanks and yes, her legs are way too small, I just painted without drawing so will try again but draw the construction first As for the shading in watercolour, a bit of both really. I lay down the colour I think I need and then gauge from there, if the colour is too dark/saturated then I'll lighten it with a small amount of water, or tissue paper or a damp brush, depending on how much of the colour I want to take off. Hope that sort of answers your question? Thanks too for the crit on the caricature I shall take that into account.

    Thanks very much AllyAlbon

your Robin Tunney is amazing, spot on and very well painted. I've wanted to paint/draw her for a long time now but I've always been afraid of the challenge for some reason. Thanks for the inspiration!!
