Hey hey you! Niiiice rendering for the latest one. Good job.
But I have a couple of crits, if you don't mind? It's that very straight vertical line in the middle of her skirt. Maybe make it a bit more like "S" shape to make the pose more dynamic? I also realize the height of her hips is too symmetrical, i'll lift her right hips up a bit or perhaps more, thus exaggerating the contraposto, it's again, to make her walking pose more dynamic. I hope I'm making sense Just my two cents.

about your sketchbook, I am highly inspired by your improvement! I started from the beginning page and jump through time at key intervals to see improvement. definitely deserve a thousand pats, I can only hope my methods of study help me improve.

Diggin' the latest drawings. Especially the profile one, how she lean on one drawing's edge. Btw, I noticed in the inked drawings, you changed the shape of the profile girl's nose, was that intentional? I'm just pointing that out, in case you missed it

luthertaylor Eh up! I'm not a Sheffield native so I have a half southern/half yorkshire accent I do say 'goin' t'shop' though Thanks very much for saying that about my work it's great to know there's a visible improvement. I try and draw every day, even if it's the last thing I want to do and I read and watch a lot of tutorials and books. The biggest improvement I noticed was when I started doing the weekly challenges, I was suddenly very aware of how scruffy my work was compared to the other entries so it made me try harder, I also recommend checking out the Schoolism.com lessons and the videos on this site have helped me no end (I also listen to Dan and Daves livestreams on CrimsonDaggers.com, those guys are motivational.

Quick one! -
Fish called Wanda is VERY recognizable. As critique I'd say that Michael Palin's body (mostly legs) seem to take some of the energy out of the image. Or did you plan it that way? I realize the character should be somewhat repressed, but if you cover his face with your hand, the rest of his body is expressionless and somewhat stiff.

I love how you handled the princess, especially that gun. Has a fantastic classical feel about it. Not sure how you call that, "shading" seems odd because they're black and white areas. Do you sketch out the fields that need to become black?

Hi Anthis Glad you recognised the fish called wanda so fast I did plan Ken that way, all the pr photos show him stiff and repressed, I geuss he isn't so much like that in the film, I've not seen it for a while, I plan on watching it this weekend and pausing it. I also had the idea of doing Otto in a ninja stance, what do you think?

Hey, great updates Angel! Your caricatures are really coming along. My fave from the last two pages are Beth Ditto, the Firefly crew and Tilda Swinton. I also really like how you ended up finishing off the cards with the brown stained paper texture; I think that really helps the figures pop. Keep up the good work!

Those are good points on the Wanda illustration - Ken may be the most difficult character to depict. The ninja stance for Otto would be a nice touch, though I can imagine you'd be at risk of overstating one single trait of a character that's actually diverse. At least, I think that's the problem I'd run into. I think you could pull it off, since your poses generally reflect characters pretty well.

I'm REALLY looking forward to the Molly Millions piece, if you choose to continue that one. I'm a big Gibson (and cyberpunk) enthusiast

Just noticed the ink-like rendering of that last image in #824 and realised how tough it must be. You might be interested in caricatures by Jan van der Steen, whose work I personally like a great deal. Not sure if it's relevant though.

zou Welcome back! it's been so long I've almost forgotten about this place - Thanks for the kind words and I'm pleased with how the pen caricature turned out, I forgot how nerve-wracking it can be to do a finished pen drawing to sell (don't tell anyone but I had to use some cunning old-fashioned correction methods involving a sharp blade.) Glad you like Juliette too I've enhanced her some more below...

Anthis Hiya Thanks for the comments on Wanda again. After watching it again I'm going to try and get across Ken's happlessness a bit more, maybe make him look more dishevelled and mucky? I'm going to try different poses too for him as well as for Otto..that's a good point about not overstating one single character trait, I'll keep it in mind. Otto was more of a ninja/CIA wannabe (or was he? hmm*rub chin*) so I kind of want to indicate his stupidity but not sure how to do that yet.
I'm looking forward to getting on with the molly millions painting, I want to do a big oil painting and practice my perspective and rendering this seems like a good project for that, I haven't read the book yet so probably best to do that first, It's on my list.

Good discussion though I must say I have a tendency to overthink stuff. Perhaps its nitpicking. I think it's an interesting problem though- do you focus on one major character trait or various traits? I wouldn't know, perhaps it depends on the illustration's goal or the target audience or whatever. I'm sure they teach this stuff somewhere >_>.
As for the Molly piece - those books are some of my absolute favourites, hence my anticipation ;P. But yea.. reading/watching lists...

Loving the portraits as usual. Also, Self Portrait Day is coming up! Noticed Jodie Foster right away (hot! ). Think you're missing the straight nose and the sharp protruding jaw slightly. Lack of longer hair (ponytail?) is a bit off-putting. Seems like a heavy crit but the look is there.

Good Loomis, especially that final one with the crazy foreshortening! Hats off.

Interesting challenge. Looking forward to a few in particular. Couple of confrontational ones too!
