Finished the watercolour, it scanned in greyscale first and I was pleased to see the values looked ok

Nice CHOW there but I prefer step/frame 10th (in your GIF) before it gets too blue and the composition is better then too.

And that watercolor piece, wow, that's gorgeous!! Really like it. I would like to see more of them

the watercolors look gorgeous! very good work with the values. how big of a paper did you draw it on? i imagine it has to be pretty big (or you've got a nice small brush and a steady hand)

witcrack Hey, thanks very much I really enjoyed the watercolour, was a bit hesitant at first but then got back into it, took me a while to get used to not having an undo (apart from wet tissue ) I agree with you about the Yuki now I look at it, I was rushing unfortunately and wasn't sure where I was going with it. Thanks for the input.

A commission I've just finished for a workmate, it's of her dad who sadly passed away a couple of years ago. He was fond of walking in the Peaks and eating Liqorice Allsorts. Carole, who I did it for was so overwhelmed she came in to my office crying and hugged me when I sent it to her, then I started welling up, she said I really brought him to life for her. best. reaction. ever! *sniff*

It's nice to see that you got back into drawing again. It encourages me because I've been feeling a little bit down lately.
I really like your style. I haven't used traditional media in a long time. Maybe I should start using watercolor and acrylic again, just for a change.
I really like your last post but maybe the guy should have some shadow underneath his feet or something just so it doesn't look like he is floating on the grass.

Some sketches for chow and a revamp of the caricature of my friends brother, she wanted me to add on his dog who was put down just before his birthday, he was 16, so sad. Seems to be the month for drawing memorial caricatures.

I think the watercolour is amazing. I find it to be a tough medium, so I'm at a loss how you handle it. I think it's interesting how clear you can see some of those marks. Like the slightly more saturated area under the cheek, and the small lit corner of the mouth. Perhaps it's the nature of the medium that make you think twice about each brush mark you make?

That's a great story in #406. I think you're very much 'in control' of this piece - if that makes sense. Especially the technical side. Whereas the Yuki onna piece seemed more 'struggled'. My only problems are -his- right cheek merging with the ear. Ah well, details. 4 fingers must be a deliberate choice?

Anthis - Hiya..thanks very much for the watercolour compliment. Yeah it is a tricky medium, what paper you use makes a huge difference to that though. I'm not sure of the technical names of watercolour paper, I think it's called cold-pressed, the smoother type, it's much better as it's denser than the really thick toothy paper and holds the colour better and doesn't bleed as much, I will have to research that. But speaking from experience I like using stretched heavy cartridge paper, it's easier to control the colours as it dries faster so you can overlay your colours and have the hard edge effect (it means also that you have to be really fast doing your wet in wet of course) in fact I did the first layer wet in wet, waited for it to dry and then did wet on wet over that to build up the colours (that can be hit and miss but can get some nice effects) and added final details with a dryer brush when it had dried. Does mean you have to plan out your colours and how you're going to lay down what colours and where to build them up, great for getting the brain cells working! (or what I have left ) The caricature I enjoyed, Carole asked me for a specific picture so it was easy to do really. The Yuki one was harder, I kept changing my mind, I didn't feel as confident with that one. Interesting you picked it up, making me think about how I approach different projects..cheers!

Zou hiyaaaaaa Thanks very much..yeah you're right about the line weight, I am going to go shopping for a Pentel Fountain Pen I hear they are the best.

Stuff I drew in Spain and stuff The first 3 are what I did in the car, I went with my folks and brother, his gf and my bf. Was a really relaxing holiday in a gorgeous villa in the mountains in what (unfortunately) turned out to be a British Expatriate haven where every other person we came across was an octogenarian brit, not my cup of tea but the pool at the villa helped had to go everywhere by car too as everything was miles apart hence the sketches from the car. The last sketch is the tree in the garden next to the pool would have liked to have done more but it was too hot to sit in the sun for long.

The other sketches are for the Day and Night chow...For some reason had a manga style picture in my head, was thinking of a teenage pair of twins whose mother describes as being as different as...well...you know.
