    Some head studies.

Just a couple of head drawings from various angles that I did for class a while back. They were about 30-40 minutes each if I remember correctly, but I doubt I'll make any more changes. Just trying to see how much I can get done in that timeframe. (Speed is something I need to work on.) It was mostly willow charcoal on rough newsprint; so any critique on how I apply the medium would be appreciated.

^Yeah, I can see that his head shape is messed up. I think I made the back of his head too thick.

    Hey.
These are nice but like you said there are some proportional issues.
But in general you seem to make the jawline too light, you can push your values more there. It looks a little like the heads just wobble down into the necks.
Also you seem to skip the detail on the ears and they are really small, on the first one particularly.
Keep it up, the expressions and characteristics are good.

    Hi!
Looks good to me, but you should pay some attention to your tone hierarchy. The tonal work seems unfinished and even. A little more variation would work well here. When working with charcoals, try to work softly at the beginning, and layering as you progress, still using vine charcoals. Then using a little harder compressed charcoal, try to begin adding detail to the heads and finish it with charcoal pencils (Conte) if you will and adding lights with white at the end. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the critique. As Ricardo pointed out, I need to used compressed charcoal some more to get better values. Those are hard to erase, though, so sometimes I wait until the end to darken up some spots. =o.o=

I added another sketch that I forgot to upload in the bottom of the first post. I should've drawn him smaller. Accidently cut off that damn ear. D:
