this week's Chow and a quickie in Painter.
some more recent doodlydoo. I find that I am getting stuck on details recently, such as with the chow entry this week. Perhaps I need to plan a little better before I put it on paper? Crits welcome as always.
part of this week's chow. still working on the rest. I've spent too much time on this mechanical thing, because I have really no experience drawing mechanical things. I thought to push myself with this.
moar figger studies from life. and some from my head too. 2nd and last posts are 5 minute poses, 4th is a couple of quick Bridgman studies. The rest are 2-3 hours from life.

some bridgman studies (less than 5 minutes each) Chow doodles and a tree from imagination.
Awesome life drawing poses, add some more value to darks
Way too long since I've posted, sorry. Working on a personal project of mythology-themed illustrations. Trying to get out of my comfort zone a bit. I've posted the throne drawing in the critiques section as well, so hopefully I can get some feedback here or there.
a thumbnail idea for the Odin project. Composition-wise i like it so far, I'll be working out some issues with his posture, and deciding where his right arm should go... comments/crits are welcome!
Beautiful work in here. I'm envious at how well you are able to capture the female form, very nice. I can't often much in terms of a critique but as some one earlier had mentioned it would be nice to see a bit more contrast in some of your works but I think you already started working on that. BTW: I also like the composition of the last image you posted. As far as his posture goes...I think it would be cool to have him leaning his head on his right arm with his spear held firmly and straight up in the air in his left. Just an idea though.![]()
Dude, those figures are awesome...and this Odin piece is looking cool, looking forward to seeing it finished.

Twilightmoon777: Thanks! I try to get to the life drawing class as much as possible. As for the Odin piece, thanks again! I want him to have kind of a relaxed posture, almost slouching, and I do like your suggestion of holding the spear more vertically.
Psychobuddy: Glad you like it, thanks! The Odin piece is going to be part of a series of illustrations, so there will definitely be more to come. I'll post more tomorrow!
update on the odin
I like the second version of the odin. It's a very relaxed posture but at the same time the guy still feels powerful and very much in control. Like he can get up at any second and start whooping some serious ass. :p
Update, sorry for the wait. I keep wondering if his head is too long? Or am I just being weird?
Hey dawnusllaw, nice progress. You have a strength in depicting the female form. I won't crit anything at this stage because you're already onto it all. Just keep working. Also, there is no need to apologise; update when you can and never give up.
Please give erudite, constructive critiques or give none at all.

A small update for the Odin piece!
I've decided to start over from scratch on Odin. I don't like the La-z-boy type throne he's on, and the lighting is wonky, not to mention some anatomy issues. I'll have something to show soon!
So here I've started over, as you can see. I'll be adding more to the background next. Crits and comments are definitely welcome!

The way you draw the human form is beautiful, and the shading you apply really brings the studies to life. Can't wait to see Odin, if you are still working on it! If I may suggest, maybe change the general shape of the chair: add more corners and harsher shapes on the leg? Though I shouldn't be talking haha.I'd love to see some of your finished work!

Thanks, Twila! Odin is on hold for the moment because, you guessed it, the chair! haha I am researching different designs for it so that it doesn't suck![]()
Saw the figure drawing of the gal in the cowboy hat and realized you must go to the Springville drawing sessions. Now I am wondering who you are?
Hey there, you go to Doyle's sessions too? Cool. I'm the "short guy" and I need to get there more often.
Here's a commission for some fan art. Not finished yet, of course.
