Hey Radon, nice stuff. A major thing that will no doubt help you, especially at such a young age, is anatomy. I'm not telling you to enlist in any life-drawing courses or anything (though in the future, those are more than helpful.). I'd say getting a grasp on basic anatomy is really important, and if you start now, by the time you're 18 you will be kicking the shit out of my stuff. hehe.

Try checking the bookstore for anatomy books by Bridgman and Hogarth.

As for your stuff, it looks a lot like the stuff I was doing when I was your age hehe. My favorite is definitely the cross-hatched character, one thing you have to keep in mind is that you aren't simply filling in the character with criss-crossed lines. Try to follow the form, wrap around the shapes and think of everything in 3D. You're trying to create a sense of three dimensions and lighting with cross hatching.

Good luck, look forward to seeing some more stuff soon. I'll try to check back here and see what kind of stuff you come up with!

hey man, thanks a lot for the comment on my sketchbook.. glad you like!

its cool that you're doing anatomy studies at such early age.. I know I did some when i was 14 too.. but I never focused.. haha.. so yeah, tip is to focus and try to understand as much as possible! draw everything you see.. don't rely so much on your imagination.. draw from life, use reference.. studies anything man! your imagination stuff will become 100x crazier after some studying

keep it up, i will keep an eye on this book so I hope you update dude!

Hey man, I liek your stuff, for 14 your of too a good start. Like Minja said, keep the anatomy studies up, you can never do too many. Also, work on the contrast in your pictures, try and getting a nice balance of blacks and whites with all yuor grays in between. Just keep practicing man, look forward to seeing more.

Hello there Radon. Welcome to CA.

The best thing you've got going for you right now is that you are 14 and want to improve as an artist. I wish I could go back to the age of 14 with the determination I have today. Anyways, like others have said, you need to be hammering out the basics. It seems as though you have picked up a Bridgman anatomy book. I would recommend also getting Hogarth and Andrew Loomis. Robert Beverly Hale would also help a lot. Bridgman and Loomis are a great place to start. Look for Loomis's "Figure Drawing"; it is a wealth of information.

As far as practicing goes, try breaking it up into a 70/30 model. 70% sketching from references, 30% from imagination. However, I must stress this: find your own way. What I said is merely a suggestion. You must find your own way.

BTW, thanks for dropping by my sketchbook! Hope to hear from you soon. Keep the work coming!

Alrigh' man, good stuff, good stuff.

I have a suggestion for this work, and perhaps pushing your values and textures, maybe with crosshatching. I'd also suggest drawing so that your outlines don't seem as heavy; maybe sketch lightly and loosely and use darks and lights to make lines come out with mere contrast, especially with a still life. Perhaps a darker background, but also a few more drop shadows?

hey man. great start. my advice for you at this point is to use reference alot! try to forget what you think you know of the subject matter and just suck in from the visuals around you. do u have access to any anatomy books? they are always a great start. and perspective ones also. even if environmental design isnt ur thing it really helps you relate everything in ur compositions together. sorry if im lecturing. good luck and keep em coming.
