nice bro, i totally agree with you on the fact that theyre your characters, but i feel that you should have more than a few characters that you draw. my art teacher was telling me tonight to copy everything you like, it doesnt matter if its like a jason chan, or andrew jones picture, if you like it, copy it. you learn from everything and you build a library in your head and that will all apply when you do your own things, yo just apply your own style on top of all these other things.
ahh soo much studying to do! but its most definatley worth it jaytea! GOOO

    r y a n o i r- ironically someone told me over a year ago the exact opposite of what you have just said. exact. opposite. I'm not saying which is right/wrong or what I support more, but it's interesting that you say that after I sort of tried to avoid copying styles too much. it happens anyway, but I try not to make it obvious orz;;;

rrrghghgh hate hate hate hate. reference/inspiration.

how can I fix this mess. the colors and lighting. augh.

Nice value play.THe more you understand the forms the better and faster the value placement will be.Dont get lost with a wide range of values on the starting point, after the sketch quickly put the main shadows then place some mids to connect the light and shadow and then some limited highlights if needed.(if u start with a white canvas u also need to place the value of light)
    keep it up!!!

Dont be afraid to start using some really strong darks and very strong lights!
Atm your staying a lot in the middle. Think about where you want the focus to be, and start working in bits of high contrast to draw the eye.
Maybe just open up the 'levels' of the painting and really start dragging in the black slider to darken up the darks. And then start painting with highlights.

I think in Linrans colour tutorial, he mentions it. But the world is completely dark and light is what illuminates it. So think about building it up by adding the light!

Im liking everything else so far, keep it up!

this might sound totally weird but

This is really beautiful drawing of a face.
Keep up with the polishing of your illustrations--I'm learning the hardway and pretty late in the game just how valuable a habit that is. *_*

nice updates.I think there is improvement. However when u want to study something specific it would be good to try it in simpler objects.Training your values immediately in the facial object is hard.I would say doing some simple object value training can help u understand more what u are doing.Think of what values you are putting.Limit them at the beginning at be sure of what u do.When u place a shadow value on an object place the same shadow value on the other next to it.Later u can try to place the local value(for example the local values of equipment or other stuff are usually darker than the local value of the flesh)i will attach an example using a piece of an awesome artist.
Its important to not get confused with values but i am happy to see u improving in these later posts
Do some value training using simple objects from your mind(cube, sphere, cylinder) these will teach u how to render and place values on different kind of forms, and since everything can be simplified to these basic forms u will be able to apply your achievements later.
When u understand something then there is nothing that can stop u from using it.Now u have the superpower called "value" but u cant totally control it yet.So keep training it
Btw i agree with a la bapsi
    Keep up the good work!!!

Haytea haytea jaytea! I haven't commented here in a loooong time (evidence of how lazy I've been bahaha!) I really enjoy THIS http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1286735344 - the movement is lovely. Which some polishing up it could be ace!

And remember to work hard but to have fun too! fun's important.

Wow you did further jumps! Amazing!
    BUT
I totally have to agree with gutts do not EVER dare to forget the reason you are doing this:
    FUN
I for example lost my real motivation for drawing as I concentrated too much on improvement which got me into a little crisis where i need a lot of time to re-orient myself.
Anyways I believe in you, you wont bee as foolish as i have been. ;D

AHAHH see how much I've drawn I'm so pro. I haven't even touched a pencil to paper for more than an hour at a time in the past few months. agsdfsfsfsdf so much has happened though so not really regretting it............ yet. my friends convinced me to join marching band back in july, and I caved under peer pressure and picked up the saxophone in less than two weeks. crazy fun. school has been kicking my ass, too. w/e.

finally finished that children's book. hell yeah.

    ~~

theories-- ahah THANK YOU lol my problematic edges... I'm so lazy. I miss pchat ;A;/ I miss you too benji.

a la bapsi-- .............. that is not weird at all in fact it kind of made my day |DDDD
polishing lol what is dat. thanks for the advice! I totally understand where you're coming from... my art teacher has been nagging me about that too.

kingkostas-- DUDE YOU ARE AMAZING. thanksssss soo much. tbh it took me around five reads to completely comprehend your post, but I think I understand now. I've been trying to be more conscious of value because it seems to be the most haphazard aspect of my work at the moment besides color and lighting. thanks again ;A;! will try the studies~

krysjez-- lol target exercises wat is dat.

gutss- GUTSSSSS ahah I haven't commented on you in a long time ;A; I think I am having ART WITHDRAWAL. thank you so much--I may just try to finish up some things during break so we'll see! ahah your art always reminds me how much fun art is...... C:

Wu!-- THANK YOU THANK YOU~~ I always feel like I forget how to have fun with this and then I decide ~~STUDYING~~ is the answer and now I have trouble remembering every now and then but yes! fun stuff on the way! thank you n_____n

ryanoir-- whooo yeah I've been doing covers for self-pubbing authors for a while. I just.......... can never afford to buy a copy for myself |DDDDDDD; if this one works out, we'll see C:

    ~~

wow............ just reading through all of these comments is like a major MOTIVATION BOOST. and now I shall eat some mac and cheese.
